RiotGhostcrawler - Why LoL doesn't balance like Dota. "We don't want you to lose at champ select."

Uh huh, you are making fun of DotA's hero balance when not even half of the champs in LoL are even picked.

TI5 hero stats - http://www.liquiddota.com/blogs/491326-ti5-unpicked-heroes

Throughout all of TI5 (including qualifiers) only 4 heroes were unpicked. In the group/main stage, 19 were unpicked.

Ghostcrawler is just plain delusional to think that LoL does not "lose at champ select", because no one does due to the fact that they just pick meta picks, so there is actually NO losing at champ select.

If someone were to pick Malzahar and Mundo jungle into a Ahri and Rek'Sai, what do you expect to happen? Why does this not happen in regular games? Because they would lose in champ select.

Don't expect anything great from ghostcrawler, just be happy he does something.

Why compare games that aren't even in the same league. League has what, about 10X the player base haha

"Unpicked"

But how many of those that were picked won?

Don't pretend that shit like Storm Spirit and Gyro doesn't dominate Dota.

I think the difference is, in DotA every hero has SOMETHING that will likely outright invalidate another hero. Even if a hero isn't "meta" or "good", they might be picked just because of how utterly powerful they are against a different hero. League aims to not really have pure hard counters, which means such a system would be impossible here. Additionally, due to some champions being more niche (Malzahar is going to work mostly in pick comps, as his suppression freezing himself makes him much weaker outside of a pick comp) picking them shows what strategy one team is going for, allowing the other team to pick a counter strategy if their first picks were flexible. That makes flexible champions (Lee Sin, Azir, Rek'Sai, Ahri) much better due to not giving away what a team's overall strategy will be and picked more often, as they are less niche. You are unlikely to lose at champion select because of the champions you picked outside of a few fringe cases (for example, if you picked a champion that does not fulfill the role you are going for well (using Caitlyn as full tank, Mundo as your adc) or you picked a champion outright weaker than another at the same role (for example, Akali while Diana is stronger, or Diana while Akali is stronger).

I dont' think the hero diversity was that great this time around, but still by far and wide better than LoL. I think its the cemented roles and lane comps that really make LoL drafts boring. There aren't enough flex champions, unique kits, unique roles, etc.

Annie was run mid, then she went support, then Riot lost it and forced her back into a position. Let there be flexibility, let there be tri lanes vs solos, etc!!
