Make Runeglaive apply only on basic attacks and not on hit abilities.
Now the item is ruined for people like AP Ezreal and Gangplank and no one else. No need to change the item any more than that.

That's just nerfing a specific interaction between an item and a couple of champs. Too cheesy. Yasuo can built runeglaive too and his q will do all magic damage. I'm sure there are more.
I don't see how it's any different than what they did when they made the Sated Devourer passive only work on basic attacks so WW wouldn't 1 shot people with his ult and Kayle wouldn't kill an entire team in 2 auto attacks with Runaans. It's certainly a better solution than what Riot is currently going with.
I don't think the sated passive was ever an on-hit effect itself, it just said every other auto applies on-hit effects twice.
It wasn't, which is the point. It's a basic attack modifier and has no interaction with on hit abilities. Give Runeglaive the same treatment. They've already shown it's doable.
Any item with sheen in it already has a built in on-hit effect. Should all the sheen items not work with the Q either? Or just runeglaive? Cheesy.
It's not any more cheesy than making Kalistas autos only do 90% damage. Riot is clearly on board with elaborate solutions; I don't see how this is any different.

ftfy.
HHAAAAHA not gonna happen
There are three (and only three, AFAIK) abilities that are actually considered to be "basic attacks" (e.g. you lifesteal off the ability damage rather than spellvamp, they apply on-hits, they don't apply spell effects, etc.):
Those should be the only abilities that would get their bonus damage converted to magic damage. Worth noting that any AA modifier ability that deals magical damage would also effectively be dealing 100% magical damage when used with Runeglaive, so it's not like you can't get the same effect in any other way.

All abilities that apply on hit effects without modifying a basic attack. In your case, Ezreal and GP's Q's are correct, but Nasus's Q is an empowered basic attack and does not apply. I'm ok with runeglaive proccing on empowered autos. That way it works on champions like Nidalee. I don't want it to work on abilities that apply on hit effects but are not basic attacks, like Ezreal Q, which is the abuse case that we're talking about.
Sorry, you're right about Nasus' Q. You can LS off it, but it's not actually considered to be a "basic attack" like Ez's or GP's Q.
But the way they are (apparently) coded, Ez's and GP's Qs are basic attacks. For instance, their damage can be multiplied by crit, and they cannot trigger "on spell damage" effects. This is already an exception to how most abilities work -- now you're asking for an exception to that exception -- but only for one particular Spellblade item!
I'm not really swayed by the argument that this is "abuse" of the item. It was bugged when first released where it would let Ez and GP proc effects like Luden's or Liandry's on their Qs, but that's been fixed. The only thing they're getting that the other champs you mentioned don't is converting the damage on the ability from physical to magical. That seems like it might be a reasonable tradeoff for not being able to proc spell effects with the ability.
It seems reasonable to me as well but apparently Riot doesn't agree since they're changing the item to no longer do that.
Did they announce they're changing it again? I don't see anything on surrender@20. They already fixed the "letting Ez proc Liandry's" thing.
They're making it no longer convert your attack to magic damage and no longer do AOE except when used on monsters. They're basically making the item a shitty Lich Bane.
Which it was meant to be. An item ap junglers could pick up which would help them mana sustain and clear the jungle while having a decent scaling.
If that's what they intended, why didn't they make it that way in the first place? Riot clearly wanted to make the item be unique and different and the changes they're making to it are basically admitting they fucked up hard.
