Minion AI
Right now Minion AI is super super wonky in that they constantly are re-evaluating their targets, and this will often cause the minions to go and attack seemingly random targets every few seconds.
Taken from the League of Legends Wiki (the only source I could find that had info on the minion AI)
- An enemy champion designated by a call for help from an allied champion. (Enemy champion attacking an Allied champion)
- An enemy minion designated by a call for help from an allied champion. (Enemy minion attacking an Allied champion)
- An enemy minion designated by a call for help from an allied minion. (Enemy minion attacking an Allied minion)
- An enemy turret designated by a call for help from an allied minion. (Enemy turret attacking an Allied minion)
- An enemy champion designated by a call for help from an allied minion. (Enemy champion attacking an Allied minion)
- The closest enemy minion.
- The closest enemy champion.
This is honestly really strange and while it does make sense, because of how the system works, you'll have minions swap targets to a "semi-random" target every few seconds. This leads to issues with creep block, last hitting with Veigar's Q (I can't tell you the number of times I've lined up a shot for double AP from Q only to have one of the two minions swap targets for seemingly no reason whatsoever and ruin the shot), and various other issues.
I would love for minion AI to be fixed up in a manner.
- minions will target enemy champions attacking (with basic attacks) allied champions
- attack CLOSEST MINION (This is crucial)
- attack Closest TURRET
- Attack closest enemy champion
- attack closest Neutral monster (within 150 units) (this still makes pulling creeps from lane into the jungle impossible)
Some caveats to the new minion AI. Minions will follow enemy champions for a minimum of 1 second, and then begin checking to see if the champion is in range to attack every .1 seconds. They will continue to follow a champion if the champion is within 100 units of the minion's max attack range, as soon as the champion leaves the attack range after the initial follow period, the minions will stop chasing. Minions not targeting enemy champions will re-evaluate targets every .1 seconds to make sure they are following proper targeting. one more conditional that could be added is, Attack any enemy champion within 100 units of allied champ. This is optional.
Overall, by simplifying the minion AI to focus first on allied champions under attack, you preserve the current AI to deter all inning early one when minions deal a lot of damage, but also by changing to nearest enemies instead of this strange "Aggro" mechanic currently, you allow the players to better deal with the actions of the minions, since they will always be predictable and stable, rather than "randomly" picking new targets every few seconds. This also improves "Clarity" of minions since they follow a much simpler easier to understand AI.
