Getting rekt by ( top lane ) Yasuo? Here are some counterpicks.

I often see people hate on Yasuo and posting in all-chat that he's overpowered when losing to him. Then I look at what those guys have picked into him and I can see how people would perceive it that way. Anyway, here are the toplane champions not to pick against Yasuo and the toplane champions that have a good matchup.

As a general rule - don't pick champions with the following traits into Yasuo:

  • skill-shot reliant
  • low mobility
  • clunky, slow kits
  • auto-attack based ranged champions
  • tanky champions with low burst

Here's what you should pick into Yasuo:

  • attack-based melee champions
  • point-and click spells, especially CC
  • high, reliable burst damage

COUNTERPICKS TO YASUO:

Irelia : First of all, Irelia has a ton of reliable burst damage with her W autos, combined with Sheen Q's and a load of her ultimate. This is super hard for Yasuo to avoid since it's single-targeted and it can burst him down before he can deal a lot of his sustained damage or stack up his tornado.

Next there's the fact that Irelia is extremely good at shutting down Yasuo's mobility. Yasuo will generally try to engage with his E, get some attacks and Qs off before disengaging with his E and starting the whole process again, up to the point where you're at low HP and they're able to finish you off with their ultimate.

When Yasuo tries to poke Irelia that way, she just presses E because the poke made her have less HP than Yasuo. This stun is single-targeted which means that Yasuo can't avoid it and it will last up to 2 seconds. In this time Irelia will be able to deal a ton of damage with her W autos, sheen procs and ultimate. After that, Yasuo will have lost the trade in almost every scenario and try to disengage.

But Irelia is not done yet, she has a single-targeted dash at her disposal that guarantees her even more burst and some more free autos against Yasuo after he has disengaged with his E and it allows her to cath up with him, which most champions can't do.

In pretty much every case Irelia will just burst Yasuo down and outdamage him in a duel, and if Yasuo tries to use his mobility to avoid that, Irelia will just not care about it because she has single-targeted dashes, burst and stuns that Yasuo simply cannot avoid.

Renekton : Yet again, singletargeted burst and stuns. Yasuo engages with his E and tries to poke, Renekton just stuns him and gets his combo off. In every case he will outtrade a Yasuo and once Yasuo tries to disengage with his E again, Renekton actually has a way to cath up with him with his own E double dash. It's not as reliable as Irelia's but it will still be very hard for Yasuo to avoid.

You also have to consider that his Q is an AOE around him with a decent range and it's instant, which means that even if Yasuo dashes a lot, it is very likely to hit him anyway.

Pantheon : Single. Targeted. Stuns. Can't stress that enough and Pantheon has one of his own. He also has a lot of burst at his disposal, after he's stunned Yasuo he will get a guaranteed Q and some E stacks off before he disengages again. Sure, Yasuo has his windwall to block off Panth's spears but he can't windwall when he's guaranteed to be stunned.

One amazing and almost unique feature panth has to his kit is his passive, which will block not only the damage of Yasuo's Q and auto attacks but even the knock-up of his tornado. This means that if you instantly use your W on Yasuo after he has activated his Q and before Yasuo hits you with his tornado, you are guaranteed to block his knock-up, making it unable for him to ult.

Because of Panth's ultimate he also has the luxury of taking ignite with him. This is another guaranteed single-targeted extra spell that Yasuo can't avoid with his mobility and utility and it helps a ton with the lifesteal he has from D-Blades and Warlord's.

Kayle : Usually, because of Yasuo's high mobility to close gaps, his relatively decent burst and especially his windwall, ranged picks are really bad against him. Kayle is the exception because she is able to avoid all of these apects with her kit.

Yasuo will try to avoid Kayle with his jumps and his windwall but she doesn't care. You can literally just Q him once and then right-click E him, which gives Kayle a ton of consistent single-targeted ranged damage that is unavoidable for Yas. Because of the fact that her auto attack aren't projectiles even with her E on, he will not be able to block them off with his windwall which is huge.

Yasuo's passive will also pop very quickly because Kayle's E splash damage will proc ot very easily.

Lastly, Kayle's W and Q and especially her ultimate are all defensive tools to prevent Yasuo from dealing damage. Her Q and W are great tools for kiting and her ultimate will block off Yasuo's entire Q-ult-Q-auto burst combo.

I'm kind of too lazy to also detail every champion that is horrible to pick into Yasuo here but here are a few examples: Illaoi Darius Sion Yorick Teemo and many more, basically every Juggernaut because they're unable to get their upramping damage off and they get outmaneuvered by Yasuo, ranged champions because Yasuo has the ability to get close in on them with his kit and deal a lot of damage to them on top of having his windwall and most tanks because they will not deal nearly enough burst damage to kill a Yasuo while he just cuts through their tankiness like paper with his top-notch DPS. Some tanks can be counted as an exception to this, if they survive the early game and get to the teamfighting stage, single-target CC tanks are very valuable, though splitpushing might still be a problem.

And you also have to consider that even if you counterpick him, a well-trained Yasuo main will still be a well-trained Yasuo main that is very likely to outplay you anyway. He has a very high learning curve and his mains usually have a 60% winrate. And if you don't know how to play against him, it's even worse for you because Yasuo will capitalize on that more than other champions and snowball off that fact.

I hope this helped.

If it's a bad Yasuo, yes. A Yasuo that uses all the tools at his disposal to avoid fighting them for too long and dodging their clunky abilities with his kit will most likely win against most Juggernauts. He will poke them down, outmaneuvre them to finish them off with his ult at the end of it all.

I still like to pick Taliyah into yasuo. Windwall doesn't effect her W or E, and her E is a pretty hard counter for his mobility.

If Yasuo is really good he can even beat his counters. I don't mind Yasuo, but i hate that in my team he goes 0/12 and in enemy god tier...
