Heh. Hes definitely in a much better place than we was pre-buffs. Hes an actual MAGE now, even if his voidlings are a one point wonder like his old W.

Fact of the matter is malzahar now needs to constantly harass and if anyone has some amount of MR (and malzahar doesnt have penetration) then hes still going to run into HuGE problems because he has unfortunately low cast range and movement speed.

Literally nothing has changed about the kit, besides reducing the base numbers and ult scaling (well and giving him a spell shield).

They pretty much could've accomplished this whole thing without reworking the voidlings, without creating this new passive, and without removing AD malzahar.

Yes, yes they could have. Which is why their "rework" is laughable at best.

They could have moved malzahars old W onto his R, and replaced his W with something like a black shield that, while up, gave his voidlings a buff. They could have gotten RID of the pool altogether. People are nostalgic over the pool but the fact is one point wonders are terrible design.

idk about that. I think that his pool acted as an interesting "don't stand in the fire" mechanic. Despite it having laughable damage to moving targets, people would avoid it like it was going to half health them.

I also don't think "one point wonders" are bad design. I don't think that having a champion who utilizes all 5 of their abilities in the same build in necessarily any better designed than one which can only use 4 or 3. Arguably, the gradient of kit power created by making their abilities mutually exclusive based on build is better design than a single static kit which functions the same way, no matter what the player does.
