The hardest reworks are yet to come...

Aatrox Irelia XinZhao Tryndamere Jax Olaf MasterYi

They were called "divers" and were supposed to be looked at after the assassins if I remember correctly. The most problematic aspect: extremly binary due to either sitting on your face and you are dead while undodgeable basic attacks shred you into pieces, or they can't do that and have the value of a melee minion with a minor gimmic.

But how I see it, these champions cannot be fixed with a simple number shifting like most champions in roster upgrades get. Every single one would need a unique ability pattern that is connected with their basic attacks, because the dude with a broadsword is not gonna fight like the dude with the spear and they both shouldn't play like the eggplant with a lamppost or someone with four telekinetic blades.

Also from a game-health perspective that is clearly desired as it a) has inherent counterplay and since b) ability based champions are way more easy to handle when it comes to individual balance.

All that requires new animations of course, and given the age of the characters one might as well go the extra mile to a VGU.

So for this to work we would require at LEAST four potential VGUs at the same time - and we all know how long a usual VGU takes and there are only two pots going currently (unless you outsource it into the skin department and then put it behind a paywall Udyr ). Unless there is a massive shift in how ressources are allocated I don't have any hopes for the following roster upgrade tbh.

Only Aatrox XinZhao Irelia are divers from those listed. Olaf is a juggernaut and Jax Tryndamere MasterYi are listed as skirmishers.

Did they decide on divers? I thought they were hinting at tank itemization next...

If I remember correctly last year was a toss up between assassins and divers and they did the assassins first (probably because it was less work for obvious reasons).

Well item changes can go seperately from reworks tho...

I don't think that would default divers next though would it? We know Aatrox is up for a Shyvana-scale change very soon. Maybe the success of that will determine which group they'll do midseason?

Well Aatrox doesn't need much, only an ultimate that would fit his theme, that's all. He might be the easiest to rework in the whole group.

Haha yeah, I'm glad we won't have to wait for a class update for him too. Not losing all of blood well bonus when his passive pops would be nice.

The shyvana scale pun pleases me

Actually, from what I heard recently, they want to do an overhaul of the defensive itemization, so it seems more likely that the vanguard rework comes first during Mid-Season, and then we will have the Divers Rework during the next Pre-Season. They are still not decided though.

aren't assassins the same as divers? because they kill someone and use their lame resets/ mobility to run away from the tower????

LostFr0st1 votes

That's the difference between them. The assassin has an escape, whereas the diver is tanky enough to just straight-up dive you with their damage and probably survive through itemization and stats.
