Sions Q Blocked by Windwall

Cleril··97 votes·6,812 views

Doesn't matter if Sion has a partial charge or fully charged Q. Windwall blocks it.

Windwall blocks a giant axe swinging down.

How do you sleep at night Riot?

Looking at Sion's Q fully charged in the release video, it should not be stopped by Wind Wall.

Projectiles are defined as an ability that moves from point A to point B. The only thing that moves for Sion's Q is the indicator of how charged it is. When he drops the Q, it damages all areas at the exact same time, not having a start or end point. This should make it more-or-less on par with Xerath's Q, which has a charge time but is not considered a projectile.

I think what is being blocked are the projectiles that are used to "draw out" the aoe of the attack. Just like how velkoz's E is block despite it not technically being a projectile.

vel'koz e is a projectile. its a little projectile that moves through the ground and pops up at the target location. its disappointing that's how it works. its also disappointing it blocks his w :(

... Viktor's E is a projectile. The beam starts on the ground at point A, and progressively deals damage to enemies on its path to point B.

Viktor's auto attack after a Q is not a projectile. There is 0 travel time, you are instantly dealing damage. It goes through the wind wall.

what does viktor have to do with vel'koz?

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

vel'koz e is a anivias q , it flies to a point and detonates aplying cc so yasuo should stop it

On a somewhat related noted, does Windwall block minions launched by Sion's E?

I think so, but that is a projectile.

Direwolfiez3 votes

At least that makes sense. Sion's axe isn't a projectile, so there's no reason it should block that.

AFK Push2 votes

From experience, the e itself will be blocked if shot at the windwall. However, a minion will fly through it.

Direwolfiez1 votes

But does the minion still do damage if it collides with other minions or a champ?

AFK Push2 votes

Yes, the minion will still do damage.

Direwolfiez2 votes

Interesting and weird, since it's being used as a projectile.

Thryale3 votes

It's like a dash. Minions can now dash if struck by sion's E ;)

I Main Swain2 votes

no, his windwall cant block units im pretty sure. i may be wrong tho

That sounds like an interesting interaction. So does that mean Sion's ridicule when charging is coded as a projectile?

Sir ArmaMalum3 votes

Sounds like it. Or maybe the coding behind the wind-up time borrowed code from a projectile system and there was an accidental re-classification somewhere?

Seems like an easy mistake, but of course that means it should be an easy fix when found.Surprised this got through the PBE.

I can see why though, since Sion hasn't been popular since a few weeks ago.

Anyways, his Q is a projectile isn't it? I mean, it's sorta like a wave that goes from one side to the other.

I don't think it has any directional influence. But I haven't played him often enough to say that confidently. Does his knock-up knock-back a certain direction or anything? I know for a fact that, once released, it's an evenly distributed AoE though.

DUDE BRO5 votes

Surprised this got through the PBE.

Lets say for example the PBE has 100 players, and there are 100 champions. What are the odds that a Sion+Yasou face off, and yasou tries to windwall sion? Pretty low. Then compare that to live where there is 1000x more players and 1000x more games happening.

LuckyReden1 votes

well on the pbe, most people play the new stuff, the stuff that needs trying out, so I am actually surprised this wasnt tried/found out given that sion came out around the same time as project yasuo.

Registeel12341 votes

after the first week, the new champion isn't that much played.

Or that's what a Red saied, but I can't remmember when/where he saied that.

LuckyReden1 votes

Well the point is I'm surprised no one found out before it went live.

Kitsuki051 votes

unfortunately PBE is not so clean cut, most of what goes on in PBE are: A people who only want to play the brand new content for themselves and won't accept anything else, B people who got banned from the main servers, or C people who just play for all the free loots and think they are super cool.

Sion IS THIS WHAT PASSES FOR PROJECTILES!?!?

SICKNÈSS2 votes

Well, technically, it's not the axe that does the AoE, it's the shockwave from the axe hitting the ground, which should be a projectile and blocked by Windwall. Assuming, as mentioned, it's a shockwave that does the damage. Axes don't grow in size if you "charge" them, so it wouldn't make sense if you're hitting with the actual axe on the whole AoE.

John Berserk12 votes

The shockwave from his axe doesn't travel through the air though, it travels through the ground. Should a wall of wind above the ground block an underground shockwave?

So with your logic, Amumu's ulti should also be blocked by windwall. I see. Zyra's, too? Hmm.. No. It's a mistake that Riot should fix.

Why didn't you post this under bugs then? I'd guess that this is not supposed to happen. Post it under bugs and put [Gameplay] in the title.

lol. cuz its not a bug.

have u seen the things yasuos windwall blocks?

they want it changed so it doesnt get blocked. they are not reporting as a bug rather they are suggesting something.

Besteau1 votes

I think the code is correlated to varus's q and xeraths q. They charge the "projectile" and then launch it. The wall thinks its a projectile imo

Brenticus122 votes

You can't wind wall Xerath's Q.

Darkcleave1 votes

Windwall also blocks Nami's ult, just by catching the edge.

Champion Skin3 votes

Or one blade of talon's ult and it is all gone Because the abilities are coded as 1 thing so it is either all there or not there

FlaminMoe1 votes

Windwall also blocks Vel'koz W (void rift ability), which makes perfect sense.

Direwolfiez1 votes

Nope, it just shows the animation of it breaking. The actual ability is invisible, but still deals damage. Fun, huh?

DadimPregnant1 votes

wow... good job rito

BravestHero1 votes

Decimating Smash is sort of ranged, the shockwave is what gets blocked (I guess they coded it to be projectile in nature?), you're only dealing with the axe's range then. sort of crafty actually.

As if anyone really needs to use Windwall to avoid Sion Q. Its perhaps the easiest to dodge ability in the game.

SouL1ess1 votes

The making of windwall, IMO, involved Riot creating an "exception case code" for every skill's interaction with windwall and that there is no exact "projectile" definition for what windwall is supposed to block. I'm pretty sure Riot can code that windwall blocks Alpha Strike's damage if they want.

I agree with OP that windwall should not block Sion's Q, that is just ridiculous. But I wouldn't know whether Riot intended to do that or not.

Are you guys STILL complaining about windwall?

learn to adapt. I dont even play yas, infact i main lux mid. And i dont even think windwall is that huge of a deal. It has a huge cooldown, and only blocks one small spot from projectiles.

There is no adapting to something that can be used on reaction to nullify projectiles and a bunch of shit it shouldn't.

Oh, and it doesn't cost anything.

Oh, and it doesn't cost anything.

I'll give you that he needs the casting delay to actually make him more vulnerable, but for fucks sake, stop saying "Oh and it costs nothing" because he's manaless.

Manaless champions exist. There's a 50/50 chance your projectile was also manaless, and if it wasn't, you probably bought Chalice and regen'd the mana within a few seconds anyway. Or maybe you bought a TotG item, and the 80 or so mana is pointless when you have +1000.

It's almost like manaless champions and trivialization of mana are stupid ideas! Who'd'a thunk it?

Sion is overpowered enough as it is.

It's almost like you have been playing DotA 2 instead of League of Legends this whole time!

Because League of Legends has significantly easier to handle mana barriers, much easier than you personally seem to want anyone else to believe.

But what does a mage main know about managing mana, amirite?

Is a 42.6% win rate still to high? I understand you don't like the wind wall but Yasuo is just garbage right now. Everytime i have one on my team I cringe because unless he is skilled he is gonna end up feeding. Unlike the assassins like Fizz or Zed he has to be in the middle of the fight, he can't jump in and out as easily (his dash is really not that effective for team fights). Unless he goes 7 and 0 in lane and get an IE and Shiv before 22 minutes he is gonna be really far behind and he is bursted so easily in teamfights that unless he gets a perfect ult he isn't going to help much
