I feel bad for Lucian

Riot created a champion that is so much fun to play that if he ever is kept in a viable state his playrate explodes.

That being said, 51%-52% winrate with the amount of play he has probably means he needs some minor nerfs.

Even if Riot knocks him down to 49%-50%, his play rate will perpetually stay 30%+ for the sole reason that people enjoy playing him so much. So we're left in a situation where if he's viable, but not OP, people still get sick of seeing him every other game and want him gutted. However, people enjoy playing him so we're taking the fun away from a lot of people.

It's like his kit being fun and feeling rewarding to play is actually a huge detriment to him.

Sounds kinda like Yasuo Riven LeeSin Vayne The hated Quadrilogy. They always have high playrates no matter what, but if they are in a decent state its illegal.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Yeah, but he has more counterplay.

I'd link him more closely with Ahri .

People are starting to complain about her, but still. Has more counterplay than the quadrilogy.

Im actually starting to miss Zed , he used to be part of the hated ones too.

I would argue that they have quite a bit of counterplay. Not enough credit for them at least.

And yeah Zed got kicked out of the Pentrilogy (is that even correct) the second he became balanced since the QSS nerf.

Didn't the QSS nerf help him by making it be unable to remove his ult?

Skorch1 votes

Technically but it also made them more eager to nerf him because there wasnt a god tier item against him.

No, I think you are mistaken. The reason his kit is so fun to play is because of how much added power it has over all other ADCs with his passive. I think simply because of his passive allowing him to win almost all early game trades makes him fun to play because you are really never going to be "behind" on him like all other ADCs can be. His kit is smooth to use I agree, but if he did not have such an advantage, I do not think he would be played nearly as often. Do not get me wrong, he is fun to play, but I think a lot of that is due to his lack of any early game/mid game/late game weaknesses apart from mana.

Take Jinx for example. Really fun to play. But that first 15 minutes are shitty because almost everyone out trades you and you have no mobility buffs until you actually kill a champion or an objective. She needs about 2 items to get going, then she is fun. Lucian can just enter any fight with out having to consider if he can at least come out even or better. His answer is always yes and if it starts to look bad, he can just E out of the fight.

Remember back when the only 2 ADCs that where ever picked were Lucian and Ezreal (this was before the lethality meta)? They were picked simply because while Lucian had trade advantage, Ezreal had poke advantage and both had mobility. Ezreal was the only champion who could avoid trading with Lucian and still potentially match or beet him in farm. Caitlyn was the fall back in case either were banned. Mostly since she has her range and combo/siege advantages.

Maybe last worlds but Ashe, Varus and Jhin were the popular LCS picks before the Leth patch.

Now we're back to EZ, Luc, Ashe, and Cait.

JavelinJoe1 votes

That was due to ADCs being absolute shit where only the ones with utility and very long range poke were the closest things to being viable.

ADC's for the most part are no different now than then. Luc got some QoL buffs and Varus/Jhin got nerfed.

EZ, Cait and Ashe are still scaling ADs and Luc is a mid game bot lane bully, Similar to Renekton.

No. This wasn't the meta before the lethality debacle

I did not me the very meta before lethality, i was saying it in general since back then it was unusual for basically just 2 champions to really be the only options. But then in the lethality meta the same thing happened with Varus and Jhin.

season 5 when his winrate was 44% i still enjoyed him more than the other adcs...

Lee Sin has the same problem. He is fun to play so as long as he isn't terrible everyone wants to play him.

I think for now Lucian is actually fine, even with a high playrate. He is limited by his range (other than the ulti) and he needs to excute his combos to get the most dps, so a quick snare or stun (or even a slow if you have long range) will just stop the dps, get yourself a good support.

He isn't as natrually annoying to deal with like Vayne (Who is terrible right now even with BotRK) he doesn't have stupid range like Jhin, Varus Q and even Ez Q. He doesn't have long range hard CC like Ashe. And he doesn't just strangle you out of lane like Cait does with her traps.

That's because playing against him when he's not terrible makes you want to chug a gallon of bleach.

I mean, hes not that cancerous at all. Lucian, while strong right now, still has quite a bit of counterplay attached. He still falls off pretty hard past the 30 minute mark, meanwhile champions like Vayne Jinx when they're strong, they end up being lane bullies all while having the best late game scaling out of anybody on the ADC roster. Lucian offers little to nothing to the team and gets bullied out of lane pretty hard.

he's probably referring to lee sin. which is a rather apt description of what playing against lee sin is like 90% of the time.

Lucian I feel just needs a numbers tweak atm, because he represents a well designed ADC that actually has to weave abilities between AAs rather than right clicking on someone and oneshotting them.

If he were to get a nerf I'd suggest making it so that his damaging abilities mark enemy champions, and his passive can only trigger on marked champions, that way if he misses his Q and W like a bonobo he doesn't do damage.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

For real people how can a 53% winrate and 50% playrate champ be fine? xDDDDd

I just imagine GP or Zed with these numbers. GP: Base armor and MR removed. Q costs health now. Ult CD up to 350 seconds.

Not sure if Lucian needs nerfs, it looks like BotrK is kinda broken once again, and he just synergizes very well with it. IF we look at the current adc meta, the top 4 picks are VArus with BotrK rush, Ashe with BotrK rush, Lucian with BotrK rush and EZ that alteast gets BotrK at some point in his built.

This is because the adc role has so many carbon copy ADCs that everyone flocks to the unique ones once they're viable, like Jhin and Lucian. Sadly Cait, Jinx, Twitch, Sivir, Ashe, as much as I love playing them they're all the same exact champion with one or 2 little things that separate them. The moment they're in a team fight you play them the exact same way lol, just stand back, kite, and AA for aoe damage. I really wish they hadn't done ADCs a year ago, they need a mass rework now.
