So Vel'koz ult is weird now.

I've mained Vel'koz ever since he was released, and quite honestly I don't think this was the way to go. I get the idea of allowing him to melt tanks, and I agree that was something he really needed, but it is far too gimmicky now. If you don't actually get your research done on multiple targets, then it is a complete nerf from it's previous version. This allows him to kill things efficiently in narrow teamfights, but I don't feel like this actually helped Vel'koz. I would like a compromise to be considered which would put him in a better spot.

I really like the Q changes though, so there's that.

I think it was more of a band-aid solution.

"Crap, we said we would rework Vel'Koz, but look at the community responses. We can't back down now!" "Okay, so how do we rework him without actually reworking him?" "I have an idea..."

He still feels much the same to me, except indeed his ult has become less reliable. Or maybe that is me still getting used to it, I dunno

No you're not imagining things. If you don't have the deconstruction stacks on, the ult will do minimal damage and even executing someone at max range is now far too difficult.

The solution is to have Vel'Koz ulti giving only 1 stack of Deconstruction regardless of how many times his R hit an enemy, rather than the 0 on live and the full charges that was giving with the old ulti if you hit the enemy for long enough time

Problem solved

This way you still encourage people to hit most of the spell in his rotation to unlock Vel'Koz ulti full potential with the research fantasy, but you don't punish him too much for missing even one of his spell in the rotation or if you use it as immediate follow-up of some AoE CC your allies can offer
