Can we nerf Super minions please?

LatetotheRace··149 votes·6,378 views

1 super minion can kill 1 1/2 nexus turrets. Here's why: " Their health, resistances and damage are far superior to regular minions, receive only 70% damage from turrets" That um damage resistance. Why is it there, and why is it so damn much? These guys should be little tanks, not little alistars. So let's reduce it to say... 10-20% damage reduction? (or nothing) How's that?

The thought of mini Alistars wandering around makes me giggle

You can't milk those.

You can't milk any of those.

Not a single one.

Not a siege one.

Better suggestion: Buff the sad little turrets. Super minions should remain a viable threat that has to be pushed back, but turrets shouldn't be so weak that only a couple of super minions or a few minion waves will viably push them down.

LatetotheRace4 votes

Well since riot for some reason doesn't want to nerf buff turrets I came up with this solution.

Bodkins Odds4 votes

You mean buff, right?

LatetotheRace1 votes

yeah, that.

I'm just not quite sure where the line is with nerfs/buffs. I remember all too well the marathon games of last season when large unkillable structures were shooting laser beams at me. I didn't like that much either.

LatetotheRace3 votes

Sion Hecarim Galio Braum Thresh Malphite Amumu Garen Nasus Leona Rammus Volibear Zac DrMundo The hells a turret? Now I can take aggro for around 20 seconds before it's a problem. Turrets need to be punishable for weaker target, and semi-self defensive. I'm talking 3 waves, and I'm ok. This often happens due to the way waves build up, but it creates a requirement. 1 super minion (as stated in op) can take down a nexus turret when they focus it. Despite both turrets attacking them, they are more than a match for the weak ass turrets.

unkillable structures

Pretty sure that a step higher from "paper" is "cardbox" not "unkillable".

Because they run the risk of stalling out a game if they're too strong. There's a very fine line that needs to be struck between too strong and too weak. IMO it isn't even the case that turrets are too weak, they are simply too stupid.

I was, literally trying to kill a wave of minions at the nexus turret with an ally akali (I was ap mf dont judge). Turrets need amplification. Bring back the lazer and make it so that at full charge it ignores 80-90% or all of the defenses.

I usually feel that if my base has 1 inhib down and the enemy team goes for baron I have a distinct choice. Contest baron and lose the game because supers solokill nexus, or save my base and lose the game because now I have super minions, baron minions, and SUPER BARON minions to deal with.

This is all assuming the enemy team is smart enough to go for baron with proper global minion management.

I think the question is, what should super minions accomplish? Right now they do it all. I'd be happy to see their damage to turrets lowered. I'd like to have super minions do an excellent job of preventing pushes, go a good job of pushing a lane, and do a mediocre job if killing turrets unless they are completely ignored.

Meep Man1 votes

Or send one person to steal it and the rest protect.

Or realize what they are doing before hand and push the waves so by the time you hopefully prevent Baron, Super minions aren't destroying your towers.

SpecterVonBaren10 votes

That's a lot of assumptions though. That assumes there's someone on your team with a kit capable of stealing Baron and the skills to do so and that the enemy team doesn't prevent them from stealing or their jungler is spot on with smite.

You assume that pushing the wave isn't what people already do. As soon as an inhibitor goes down and the enemy team, for one reason or another, backs off, then you know that they're going to go for Baron next. But you need to push out the wave really far to prevent it from just rushing up to your turrets, you can't just sweep the base, you need to push them out into the lane itself and in the time it takes to do that the enemy will already have Baron.

Xonra2 votes

They either need more health and less damage or more damage and less health. I don't mind if they were good at pushing but not also good at staying alive, and taking towers. They limit your choices in games considerably.

And as you said, god forbid you are trying to kill one with Baron Buff on the enemy team. Feels like you are trying to kill an ulted Alistar as the OP said.

Super minions are BY DESIGN supposed to start ending the game.

If a super minion didn't kill a turret, this would mean you have an extra wave worth of time before you have to send someone to deal with them, which could change a 4v5 at baron into a 5v5. This would actually be a massive deal, and should never be changed. As again inhibitors are basically a win condition, if a team loses them it should be a big deal and they SHOULD lose more and more trying to deal with supers. The game does have to end at some point, killing inhibitors is the difference between a lead and turning that into a win

LatetotheRace3 votes

"supposed to start ending the game." Taking the nexus turrets is beyond that level. Causing significant pressure is fine, but they should not be able to do so much destruction after 1-2 lanes.

Dude, what's left to attack after the inhib? Nexus turrets. If they don't have a realistic chance to destroy the tower in a reasonable time (as defined by the time it would take you to contest the enemy at an important objective and return) then no pressure exists because no real choice was offered. Pressure only exists when you have to make sacrifices or compromises. What's left to sacrifice or choose between after the inhib if nexus turrets aren't on the table?

I understand your frustration, I've been on that team in that game before but, my enemy SHOULD be rewarded for taking game ending objectives.

rtbf761092719 votes

Yes they should, and it's naive to think they shouldn't. Games have to end and super minions are the mechanic to attempt to actually end the game, by taking fights with number advantages while a champion is tied up elsewhere. You either take a 4v5 fight with someone killing supers or you lose turrets ignoring them and going for a 5v5. This is the way it is designed to be, and I agree with that design. Do you think they accidentally made it so that a super minion wave took a turret?

If super minions didn't cause 4v5 fights, the entire game would come down to a 5v5 fight regardless of if you had taken inhibitors prior and that would be stupid. Since again inhibitors are the most important objective on the entire map, they have to give a meaningful advantage. Or else games would just be 50 minute 5v5 fests where no one sieges since it's risky and you don't even gain much if you take inhibs since you would just have a 5v5 after anyways

LightIsMyPath1 votes

But even picking a 5 vs 5 fight to contest baron is risky, especially since if you have an inhibitor down chances are you are the behind team ( unless you fucked up a single tf ), so you are not even able to have control of the area, making a straight fight a very risky move which will cause an insta loss if not won ( and the chances of winning are against you). A 4 vs 5 is literally impossible unless the enemy ROYALLY fuck up. But giving the baron away with sp up is a sure loss unless you have major waveclear AND the enemy, again, royally fucks up. So, there is not a decision to take, might as well made the game end when enemies get out alive after taking inhib and spare us that last time. That 's not funny in any way, "oh now I 'll just watch my nexus go down helpless" or "" gg we won, I'll afk in enemy base while buffed minions work for me" doesn't have interactivity in any way and it's just a dead moment of the game

rtbf761092712 votes

look man if you lose baron and multiple inhibitors and presumably can't win a 5v5 away from your nexus turrets anyways YOU LOSE THE GAME. You lost all the objectives, you can't fight them, you deserve to lose and this is the mechanic which makes you lose.

Super minions and baron END THE GAME. No it's not fun to watch them kill your base. Deal with it?? It's not a ton of fun to lose in any game but that is the reality of multiplayer games. Something has to make the game end and half the time that thing is making you lose instead of them

Picture a version of league where super minions plus baron COULDN'T end the game. The enemy would take baron and inhibs, yet you would still live because supers and baron were weaker. Way more games would see teams horribly behind get to full build, which means team fights on even terms because the team who was ahead couldnt end the game with their advantage. That is a BAD thing because it means advantages, objectives and risks are meaningless and more games just come down to one team fight with 70 seconds death timers regardless of how well you played earlier

rtbf761092712 votes

This is how I read these complaints: "I want to have a good chance to win even after losing 95% of my base and possibly baron too"

My response: Too fuckin bad

LightIsMyPath1 votes

When did ONE inhibitor became 95% of the base? And how can you have already lost baron if my main point is that having a super wave coming at you removes the possibility to contest it? I think you highly misunderstood me, else you 're hard trolling me speaking of a different situation.

How about reverting the several nerfs to towers? Super minions weren't nearly as problematic when towers could defend themselves from basic minions.

I think they're trying to make lane swaps in pro play a thing of the past. Hence, the nerfs to bot turrets and first turret blood. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to live with the clown fiesta which is bot lane. Incidentally, this is why I went back into the jungle this season after being a support main in S6.

LatetotheRace3 votes

"I think they're trying to make lane swaps in pro play a thing of the past" All they did was shift it bottom lane. So this "solution" was nothing more than a failure.

It seems to me that Riot is trying to make games not last as long.

I say reduce their HP by 50%, and increase their damage by 50%.

Meanwhile at base...
-EXECUTED Janna -EXECUTED Bard ,etc. I think that might be a bit excessive imo.

I would prefer a super minion doing damage over one I can't ever kill. A baron buffed super minion is like 3-4 tank items it feels like trying to kill just 1. God forbid you have enemy champions attacking you at the same time lol

This! Regardless of how I end up as the only one fighting super minions, two supers.. 4k hp each? Not to to mention they can fight assassins.. I can't stand super minions at all lol.

shadecrapper4 votes

Or buff the towers already... jesus

Xonra4 votes

The least fun part of any game (even more than trolls, inters, etc), is when you have a super minion coming at you on top of a team having baron. Takes nearly an entire team just to kill the super minion like it is a tank champion.

A super minion that is baron buffed is one of THE most ridiculous things in the entire game.

rtbf761092712 votes

I agree, losing isn't fun. But that means super minions are doing what they are supposed to be doing, which is moving the game towards a loss for you. There has to be MEANINGFUL consequences for losing the most important objective on the map. If you lost inhibitors plus baron, you have LOST 95% OF THE OBJECTIVES ON THE MAP and if baron buffed supers weren't ridiculous, what's the point in taking risks to get them?? If you couldn't actually end the game off of supers plus baron, how do games actually end without 70 second death timers at 60+ minutes?

Owyn3 votes

So you want games to continue indefinitely, don't you? [slayer-jinx-wink]

LatetotheRace6 votes

No? It will just require a champion to actually take the turret.

juju adventures3 votes

I think maybe nerf it to only 50% damage reduction, but buff turrets.

FantasySniper2 votes

Because Riot hates it when there are turrets in the way of play-making.

MagikarpIsBoss2 votes

I really want them to buff the nexus towers (after they nerfed them for no real reason) and make them give more gold. Those minions are hard af to kill, and they only give 50g. Cannons give like 10g less. It is kindve dumb that they only give you 10 more gold while taking so much longer to kill.

The damage reduction against towers mean that damage reduction doesn't apply to champions and minions. It just means someone needs to defend base. I mean, if it was changed to buffing their HP and getting a debuff that made them take extra damage from champions and minions, would you feel better about it?

LatetotheRace1 votes

" It just means someone needs to defend base." I'm fine with having to defend my base, but I shouldn't have to SPRINT back to defend the nexus if 1-2 waves makes it through. That's just absence.

It means one damage dealer who isn't behind needs to defend base... Per inhib. Low damage champions and anyone who has fallen behind in the game won't even be able to clear the waves faster than they arrive. Which means contesting objectives is basically impossible because your stronger team members have to sit at base and clear waves.
