Why Did Riot Keep Improving Wukong's Rework

but Karma's rework was dropped after the first draft?

Don't get me wrong, I am honestly happy for Wukong Mains, because he has been in the shadow of champions like Talon for way too long, with abilities that don't make much sense (passive) or that just don't work well together (E's attackspeed + R).

So I would truly hope for every champion to be blessed with tenacious designers like has, that keep going until they feel truly comfortable they found the right mix.

But I must admit it feels really bad seeing others gain it for their main, and having your own main dropped without much explanation. It never even hit the PBE.

Gonna assume that wukong mains are easier to please because he is more straightforward. With karma you have top, mid, and bot lane along with various builds for each. All of them want different things and then we have players who want old karma vs new on top of that. I can’t imagine trying to make anything work there where some faction isnt mad.

Edit: nevermind thread with people mad about wukong too.

Probably a few reasons. The following are my guesses:

  • Wukong isn't torn between multiple kit identities like Karma is.
  • Wukong's spells and gameplay are simpler.
  • Wukong's rework had a more promising initial direction.
  • Wukong required a smaller set of changes.

I suspect the actual reason is some combination of all of the above. If you don't have a good direction to start off with, you actually end up wasting a lot of design time and energy continuing past the initial exploration. Better to sit on it a bit and come back later with a fresh mindset.

They just don't care about Karma. It's been 7 years and they have accomplished virtually nothing on her except for making excuses. They had 7 years to do the least amount of work on Karma and they let the constant changing meta and all over the place kit/lack of gameplay identity form into 3 different Karma players. The Developers have shown a clear lack of care when their ignorance to begin with used the excuse that too much time had passed and there is nothing they can do. They flat out don't care and they don't like Karma mains. Even if by the grace of God all Karma mains came together and agreed on a direction for her, Riot Game Developers would prioritize a Ryze rework and talk about a new champion. There is no point in getting upset or even excited about anything with Karma because it's always half arsed, lackluster and not iconic.
