More than 1,000 games this season, and I feel robbed (Long post)

The screenshot attached shows my rise to Plat 2 and then decent into Gold 1. At the start of the season, I won 6 of my Promos and got placed into Gold 4. I used my main (Ezreal) and climbed with him all the way to Plat 2 100 LP and then started using other champions. Not that I sucked at other champions, in my opinion, I have the solid mechanics of a true Platinum 1 player, not quite Diamond level mechanics, but I'm almost there. None the less, I have dedicated a lot of time in this game, I actually have a passion for this game, I love to play it every day, I do actually hope I work my way up to being on some type of pro team later on.

Anyway, on my ascent to Platinum 2, I could see notable differences in how people play from Gold to Plat, AND, the coordination in both elos. Yes, you can 100% assume I'm going to say Plat has better mechanics and coordination in team play, and you would be right, because I'm going to say that they do. So I started to lose a few games here and there after my upward skyrocket started to dull a bit and lose its gas, I kept my attitude up and kept saying Ill just win my next game, Ill win my next game, and so on and so forth. I even went as far as getting a replay program to see if I could of done things differently to carry a game harder, or avoid the loss that game.

So on and so forth, I kept going on losing streaks, I'd win one or two games and lose 4 in a row.

Eventually I dropped pretty hard. The drop isn't the issue, the issue is what happened to my MMR.

For anyone who is deficient in information on league of legends, MMR is your true rank, it's hidden and thats what determines who you really get matched up with.

With that being said, as I went on loss streaks, my MMR started to tank, and I got matched with lower and lower ranked people.

You might be thinking at this point, well, if he's a true Platinum player and he wasn't boosted, he should be able to stomp on these low elo players and get back to where he was (I'm not boosted), and I had that mentality! I felt that I could naturally climb back up, so you could say I had a positive attitude about things. Here's where the brick wall hits.

As a person with decently high level mechanics, I did and do outplay my opponent in most games, and I make higher level coordinated plays. The issue is with that last one, coordinated plays. As your MMR starts to tank, you obviously, as I said, get matched up with lower and lower ranked people, and with lower ranked people, come worse decision making skills, and not high level plays or mechanics. So, here I am, a Plat 2 peaked player sitting in low gold/silver elo. The way I play, is fit for high/mid Platinum Elo, so how is my team suppose to know what I want to do, or take the opportunities like my teammates would in plat? They won't, and that would leave me holding the bag if I go in on certain times or make a certain decision and they don't follow up with me.

The issue of why I can't climb up has been brought up by many people in recent months, its simplified like this, if your MMR is lower than your division rank, you lose a lot more LP than you win. For instance, if you are a Gold 1 player, getting matched with Gold 4s, and you win that game, you will only get between 13-17 LP, however, if you lose that game, you will lose between 20-23 LP. That is a huge issue.

You can't have MMR and these divisions at the same time, you have to pick one or the other that determines who will get matched with who. The fact that MMR is still being used in the match making system WHILE the new system of divisions was implemented, makes it very hard for someone to climb back up, almost twice as hard.

I am also going to bring up a little venting paragraph about pre mades. At the start of this season, Pre mades were not that prevalent due to well, people not taking advantaged that you can have 3-4 people going into ranked with you, and that made the start of the season, soon perfect to play ranked, things were balanced! People weren't boosted yet, or didn't play with people 5 tiers above there division to get a higher MMR from what they really were, everyone was where they needed to be. But I feel like that was a problem with my fall from Plat 2, people started to take advantaged of the pre made factor that got implemented into this game. As time went on, I got increasingly matched with more and more groups of 3 people on the opposing team, and that made it hard for me to stomp my lane or even carry the game, for the simple fact that they had more natural coordination on there team than I did, and I know some of you can bring up the argument that League tries to make the teams even so that if the enemy team has a group of 3 people pre made, so will yours, however, I find that not the case in 90% of my games. If the opposing team has a pre made of 3 players, I rarely get any pre mades on my team, always solo players on my team.

Riot, I don't care what kind of argument you can impose on me for saying this next sentence, it won't matter because this sentence completely nullifies anything you have to say: You cannot have a wide range of different number of grouped players ranked on the same ladder that people can play solo

You just can't, name me one game in the history of gaming that his implemented some type of ranking system like this, it makes absolutely no sense at all.

I will throw a simple analogy for you, take for instance two different class rooms that are going head to head to finish a project, lets make the project some type of end game where the finished project is a robot.

Class 1: Will be able to form a group of 5 and coordinate how and when things need to be done at the same time.

Class 2: You are not allowed to group as 5, you all have to work on one aspect of the project individually with minimal communication channels and hope that you all come together at the end of the allotted time and have a finished robot.

Obviously the people who were able to group as 5 people will have a much higher chance of finishing the project faster AND getting right.

So Riot, I ask you, why did you do this? Seriously, I want a genuine answer, not one that you back up with weird surveys, or the argument of wanting people to be able to play with there friends (We had normals and custom games and ARAM for that), or the absurd notion that you want this game to be something like an 80s kid playing baseball every day outside like its a childhood game you'll remember in 20 years, I want an answer as a person to person, player to player, or do you employees at Riot not even play the game? Are you like those people high up at executive office of a company sitting around a long conference table making decisions for a company you have no experience with because you don't actually use the products at the company?

Maybe its me, maybe I completely lost all of my mechanical skill coming down from Platinum 2 to Gold 1, but I beg to differ, I blame a decent amount of my losses on teams that couldn't make the right decisions or just aren't mechanically good, and no, don't give me this babble of if you're good you can carry a game regardless, you can't make decisions for people, you can try and tell them what to do, and hope they listen, and even if they do listen, you don't know if they have the mechanical skill to do it.

I'm done with my ranting, but I'm taking this season lightly from now on, for the simple reason that this season has zero competitive feel anymore, there is no competitive ladder with what Riot has done in season 6.

Shame on you Riot.

Where's the TL;DR? My IQ is too low to read an entire paragraph.

But yeah, Ill always jump on the Riot hate wagon, so shame on you Riot for not nerfing Soraka who obviously caused this man's elo to drop.

Lol, I'm sorry, but everything in there needed to be read. No TL;DR here.

Well I mean what do you want Riot to do? Do you want them to keep people's MMR intact based on what ELO people feel they are? That doesn't make sense.

ELO has to be based on your ability to win games. I admit it must feel bad to fall an entire tier and sympathize, but there has to be a difference between when you climbed through Gold and low Plat to now. You are saying you can't win games with these lower ELO teammates, yet you did when you first climbed to Plat 2.

Sounds to me that you're simply burnt out. Maybe you should take a short break from league. Try playing a bt less LoL and play some other stuff. 1000 games is a lot of time in a single season

You are missing the big picture, at the start of the season when I climbed, the people in Gold 4/High Plat were all plat and diamond last season, aka, the MMR reset, now that I am down there later in the season, these people are true golds and silvers.

Again, do you want them to keep people's MMR intact based on what ELO people feel they are? Think of what a nightmare ranked would be. Riot is already pretty forgiving in not letting a single lose streak massively swing your MMR. But fair is fair. You have to admit that it doesnt make sense to leave a player's MMR unchanged when they're losing a lot more than winning.

Again, it really sounds like you're burnt out on LoL and in need of a break

Lol no, you are not understanding, I said there should be one or the other, you can't have MMR and the league system both in play at the same time, because MMR is determining how you move up in the league system ladder, only one should determine where you are, and who you get matched up with, and what your rank is.

But its not like you were plat 2, lost 5 games, and your MMR got dropped to gold. Its a slow decent. If you had a Plat 2 MMR, it would be dropped to Plat 3 which is only one division. The difference between a single division isnt that much. From there it drops slowly division by division. It's not a radical change, especially after so many games this season

You do realize that MOST games have a merged solo and group ranked experience right? Almost every major console games has a ranked multiplayer that you can group up with friends and go in solo and they have been doing this for over a decade. Halo and Gears of War are two that have done it for a while, but COD (at least past games) didn't have a ladder system.

My point is that if you think that this is an anomaly or uncommon, it really is not, just that League/Riot was later to adopt such a system.

Honestly, go back and look at your history to see if you had premades or not. A lot of people lose games and claim the opposing team was a premade and that's why they lost. I sometimes read these posts then I look up the games they are referring too. Unsurprisingly typically the opponents have NO history of playing together or at best it is a duo and they also had a duo on their team.

It takes some time, but most people complaining about premades are grossly exaggerating how many actual premades they are playing against.

Examining your fall from high platinum to low gold, you lost a lot of games but it looks like you don't really take too many breaks from ranked. This indicates to me that you just kept playing and you lost. Most really good players take breaks from ranked after a couple losses. They don't continue to sit and play ranked after 2 or 3 losses they go do something else or play the next day.

I have had greater success climbing by playing only a few ranked games every now and then, rather than ONLY playing ranked.

It is also highly possible that you climbed as high as you did because you got hot at the right time and you may have over inflated your actual ranked. I am not suggesting you are not a Plat player, but most Plat players sort of "settle" in their rank after a certain point and float between 1 or 2 subdivisions until they get better. You lost a lot of games pretty rapidly, which suggests to me that you were a bit over ranked and you are beginning to return back to your true skill after getting on a hot streak.

TL;DR

I think your fall can be explained by many variables: personal skill, streaks, overplaying, premades, mmr, skill of teammates, roles, champions etc. But you are only focusing on the variables that do not reflect your personal play or habits. This suggests to me that you probably are not skilled enough to stay in high Plat and you are a bit down on your luck and fell to Gold.

You will probably return to platinum simply from playing, but I think your fall is a combination of several variables that you are not emphasizing/considering in this post.

Not really, it just looks like you haven't fallen as far. Without the division system, you would just currently be in the equivalent of Gold 4 (or whatever your current MMR is at). Either way, you have to climb back up from Gold 4 to Gold 1 before you can climb out of Gold 1. The old system was just a more transparent version of the current system.
