People are out to get you

When you reach your promos you get there because you are doing better than your average and being set up to lose with shitty players who are also being set up to lose. However, if you raise your average mmr beyond what they can reach its a lot less likely that this wont happen.

In short you do not climb by getting a lucky streak unless you are REALLY REALLY lucky. You climb by raising your average gameplay to the point that even the worst shitters you get matched with are still good enough to get out of wherever you are. Even premades take MMR into consideration during matchmaking. Understanding this requires very little game experience in fact.

Timmy starts playing league Timmy starts ranked Timmy bombs his placements and gets put in bronze so his ranked MMR is complete shit Timmy plays alot and with an MMR of like 0 eventually just happens to win like 6 games in a row and then does some stuff right because his favorite champ is strong this week. Timmy with an MMR of like 10 enters into promotionals with a team full of lucky bastards just like him with shit MMR Timmy is just rolling dice with what teammates he gets so he gets a bunch of shitters Timmy goes crying to the forums for the next 10 years about why he can never escape bronze because of trolls which are in fact out to get him

Johnny, a serious gamer, starts playing league Johnny starts ranked Johnny bombs his placements and gets put in bronze so his ranked MMR is complete shit Johnny plays alot with an MMR of like 0 but focuses on improving his gameplay instead of worrying about getting to the next rank because Johnny understands that even if he gets good at bronze that doesn't actually make him ready for silver or any other rank. He eventually wins like 6 games in a row and goes into promotionals Johnny goes into promotionals with an MMR of like 10 But Johnny understands that until his average performance raises his MMR higher that he is just rolling dice with his promotionals and knows this is why he will very probably get shitters at the peak of his streak and itll only get worse. If nothing else johnny's body is more ready than timmy's for the shitters Johnny understands that promotionals mean nothing if you aren't at a place where you have a lower chance of getting shitters and thus tip the odds in your favor. So instead of running to cry on the forums Johnny puts on some spandex and a cape then goes out to fight some crime because he's fucking batman and will get laid EVER

Everyone is out to get you and if you reach your promotionals with less than the best odds then you will get shit on. If all you did was get lucky after a long loss streak then fuck you, you're probably getting thrown back in by trolls. Promotionals are when the trolls come out because

  1. you're nervous and actually paying attention for once
  2. because everytime you win a match the odds of the next match going to shit get higher and higher because you get matched against people in the same situation as you and you also get matched with people who are more likely to do something stupid. The extremes grow basically.

Everyone else has the same problem. But there is a tool to help you, an invisible one. Your MMR. You can be bronze with higher MMR than silver players and it used to be possible to have higher MMR than gold, that may still be true though that kindof says more about the gold player in that case. Be like Johnny, your promotionals aren't really your promotionals. They are crap shots with a chance of promoting you where you have the power to tip the odds in your favor by regurlarly not being a shitter like Johnny did rather than merely getting lucky sometimes like Timmy.

Be like Johnny, know what you are actually up against and what you need to do. Being good at bronze does not mean you belong in silver Reaching silver only means you beat bronze, it does not mean you belong in silver Playing like a silver player will not help you get out of bronze, that's like playing Mario to get good at sonic, two different games with some similarities. Diamond players do not escape bronze easily because they are diamonds, they escape easily because they consciously or unconsciously understand adaption, non-adaptive will still get stuck in bronze. Master teir players sometimes get stuck in bronze but know to consciously pursue a new train of thought specifically for winning in bronze.

Garen is in every bush even if nobody picked him Ahri is hawt Everyone is out to get you, especially that nice guy who jokes around with everyone at the beginning of the match, don't trust that fucker, he'll be the first to turn on you if you make a single mistake Escape velocity scales with general consistency Exploitation and one-tricking are valid strategery as long as you aren't literally cheating

please tell me more about ranked player attitudes/mmr when you have queued a total of 0 ranked games ever.

You have no idea how many ranked games I've played. You have no idea how many ranked games I've witnessed. You have no idea how many ranked players I know. You have no idea how many ranked players I "know"

But most of all this has nothing to do with anything you really need ANY ranked experience to understand... ITS A FUCKING COMPUTER ALGORITHM

As for ranked attitudes. My comment doesn't really get into ingame attitudes which is part of what holds some people back but that's just one more factor in their MMR which exists not only in ranked, not only in every game mode, but in literally every game with an actual matchmaking system worth mentioning.

Tell me, do you really think its a coincidence that some people can escape bronze so easily while others can't? Do you really think just "being good" is enough? I say you've gotta be more than good, you've gotta be smart in regards to things that got nothing directly to do with the game too. Today I won a game as zyra support. I picked zyra as opposed to Leona who I would normally pick strictly off the personality of my team and the recent changes to all the champions. The game was won before it was played as long as there wasn't a disconnect which of course there was, it was around 3PM afterall, but we won anyways. It doesn't matter where you go or what you are playing, there will always be moments to make these types of choices, some people do instinctively, others don't and need to be like me and do it actively. Either way don't be Timmy which is a reference to a well known gamer archetype because gamers in all games have some common traits.

surely i do because i simply typed in "cerealboxofdoom na lol" and it comes up with "unranked 0.00% win/loss"

which means. YOU HAVE QUEUED ZERO RANKED GAMES.

I constantly see you making these types of threads, yet you have no experience? How are you going to speak for the actions of people in ranked, yet you havent played it?

just had a talon go 2/13 and do less damage than both supports. he went 0/5 in lane in 10 minutes 4 deaths were solo.

go play 10 fucking ranked games, then make another of these bullshit upvote ideology posts.

CerealBoxOfDoom2 votes

My post explains why you got 2/13 talon without any need for ranked experience. Just like how I don't have to play a game to tell you how a company rigged it though that's partially because I used to operate an arcade at a theme park.

1000 ranked games isn't going to change anything I said and whether or not you respect my opinion is irrelevant.

There are exactly 3 possible explanations for your ranked problems

  1. Luck exists and luck fucking hates you
  2. Luck is irrelevant and there is something more you can do to influence the outcome of your games before the game even starts
  3. Luck is irrelevant and you are the target of some grand conspiracy to shit on you specifically because riot hates you

You're free to choose which you feel is the truth but assuming you value your free time, sanity, and/or self esteem...

Yeah no, I'm the nice guy at the beginning, I never flame.

"yeah no"

why not just no? I wonder what this is called. Whatever it is its a great way to trigger someone.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Okay, then just no.

I am the nice guy at the beginning of matches, and I never flame.

So ease back your triggeredness, if you may.

thanks for giving me a reason to blame you for my failure to call mia. "nice guy"

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

You can blame me if you want, but it does nothing really.

You know the reason you didn't call mia.

And I know the reason. You were simply inattentive.

So I won't lose any sleep over you blaming me for it to cover a simple Do'h! moment where you simply forgot to ping mia.

Perhaps you were focusing on last hitting, perhaps you thought they backed. If you think about it, it wouldn't have mattered too much if I warded better. So the blame can go both ways.

[slayer-jinx-wink]

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

You might not lose sleep but you'll sure as hell lose MMR and LP which isn't actually as important as MMR based on my post which is likely true.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

That my be true, but what exactly would flaming you for your inattention accomplish?

It won't give me my MMR back. Or my LP.

So I have no reason not to be nice in-game. It is a lot better on my blood pressure, and my overall health if I stay chill and move on to the next game. [slayer-jinx-catface]

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

Who said you shouldn't be? The problem is that you have passive aggressive tendencies.

Being nice won't save your MMR from that.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Oh I'm only passive aggressive when I talk with people that annoy me. <.<

If you mean my earlier "Yeah No", yeah that could be seen as passive aggressive.

But I'm not normally like that. You have to really grind my gears for that to happen.

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

I'm being blamed for his "infrequent attitude problem" now lol

I'm guessing I'm doing so much worse to annoy you with this little bit I'm doing now than all those fuckers in your games? Really?

I bet you just get all in the zone and don't even pay attention to the things you say.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Its more of a buildup thing tbh.

You frequent these boards, so I see your kind of gear-grinding posts often.

People i play with? Gimme whatever you bet, becuase I barely chat with them in game unless i need to give them important info or im dead.

Also you really need to chill, I am not blaming you. It is not all about you unless you're secretly Kuzco.

I specifically said people who annoy me. Not you in particular.

You may be part of this group, but you are not the sole member.

Dominick Destine also joins you in the group. :3

Dominick Destine also joins you in the group. :3

See? now you're trying to pick fights

So much passive aggression, you probably shorten your posts too ingame and end up saying passive aggressive things.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Not really.

Again, my gears are grinded right now.

Although I should decrease my overall passive aggression.

I have prided myself on not flaming, yet i still let myself get tilted sometimes. On these boards i tend to let out my aggression in small leaks. Mostly directed at members that irritate me.

But now i realize this does more harm than good. While i do enjoy a snide remark, I fear I may be descending down a dark path.

So you have inspired me to change. From now on I will cut down on my passive aggression. I admit I have this issue on boards.

So I will rephrase my OP in my new way.

I'm a nice guy and dont ever flame. That is a stereotype of nice guys.

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

Assuming you aren't being sarcastic is the worst case here. That would mean you're trying to be a good person and actually correct faults you admit to having and thus may also be responsible for me not calling MIA.

In many cases that causes a bigger issue than just flaming. This too can change the outcome of your matches.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

No sarcasm here. Just an honest desire to improve.

I have no clue if you're being sarcastic or not in your response though.

I feel that in order to improve your skill you need to go into your games with an open mind. If you aren't willing to accept your mistakes then how can you learn from them. Here are variables that you might want to consider and tips that I have taken from various sources in order to improve my own gameplay.

  • Getting adequate computing software/equipment (having less then 100 ping and more then 60 FPS will make it 1x10^20 times easier to play and win games).
  • Creating "Pocket picks" basically you pick 2-3 lanes (ex: jg,mid, sup) and pick 2-3 champs from those lanes that you enjoy and you do well with. Now you spam those champs like its christmas and become incredibly skilled at those champions.
  • Pay attention to the meta and meta strats. (like starting Krug with an atk speed champ and immediately smiting them).
  • Staying positive (I don't care if your adc is Keemstar, you grit your teeth and encourage them as well as help them when they need it. It's still a team game).
  • Accept that some games are out of your control (afk's, smurfs, int. feeders, scripters etc.) use those games as a way of practicing random things (like farming, go ahead, if your adc RQ'd, pretend your Nasus and pratice some precision farming).
  • Always be aware of your surroundings (I.E. map awareness) use that 100 G in your pocket after you completed an item and buy a pink. If your lane opponent(s) are missing, ping MIA (In higher elo (Gold aka, slightly less rage-inducing Silver) they will become increasingly more necessary in your matches.
  • Proper Itemization (If they have Ammumu, Maokai, and Malzahar, it may be a wise idea to buy Mercs. even if their ADC is fed)

Take this advice at face value, I followed most if not allof this advice and I got S1 in my first ranked promo's ever (take that as you will). Yes, people are out to get you but, that number of people is almost completely drowned out by the sheer number of other players who just want to be left alone and just climb.

Hope this is helpful to folks who are interested.

see title lol

but another way to put it is that this game is rigged. Rigged meaning there is a predictable unnatural force that influences your gameplay experience and there is a way to counteract it to a degree.

To sum it up, if you are playing your promotionals does that mean that you are playing against the best people in your division? The very best? Second best? Maybe 20th best??? If you climb and try to get out of a rank will you be matched with and against the best of the best that you could be matched with???

If not then perhaps there's a way to change that.

People are out to get you and ruin your MMR and rank and LP whatever. They all want to wreck your shit. Trust no one you didn't select yourself. Don't trust them either actually. Don't even trust yourself.

Also getting to promotionals once or twice is a sign that you are about to get tilted for many people and an easy way out of a rank for others. The reason can likely be explained with math.
