Actual supports counter assassins

CerealBoxOfDoom··71 votes·7,092 views

When the support is weak the assassin is stronk and they call it "the assassin meta"

When support is strong they're like "what's an assassin?"

Part of the reason shit teams get dunked by assassins is because they don't take the support role seriously.

ADC Dead before it takes effect.

for ad assassins it might not be the case since taric can give them a lot of armor. one time my jinx had about 175 armor because of my passive and when i healed her it went up almost 200 so a zed would have a hard time killing her.

Soraka

As Talon :

Alistar Annoying AF, really hard to kill Blitzcrank is better than Thresh in this case; Thresh hardly does anything Nautilus Braum Soraka (sometimes; like most squishy supports it's always onsided) Leona

tldr; Supports that can peel

SH Azykan17 votes

if soraka is fast enough to drop the silence field on whoever talon wants to kill, that soraka deserves all the praise

Troll for Trump1 votes

Yeah, it's really stupid when she does that. But hopefully she and the ADC are a little spread apart; She uses her E as I ult as Talon, so I can pick which target I want to jump on. Both her and the ADC are primary targets, though the ADC is generally better.

Tank Raka is much harder to deal with.

SH Azykan1 votes

if you are in range where raka will see you ulting anyways, probably a better idea to use the ult in your combo instead, way stronger burst that way and can use it for more aoe damage. Also you can E+Ult immediately to bait sorakas silence and get into a position to wreck them still.

Ulting outside of vision with yomuus popped is generally when sorakas reaction speed is called into question, because you pop out of nowhere and raka has like 0.2 seconds to get out that silence or someone is dead

Troll for Trump1 votes

You shouldn't be focusing on soraka as the number one priority. Basically always jump on the ADC, unless somehow Soraka becomes more of a threat than the ADC(Maybe she went mid? IDK).

There is a way to be undetected by Ulting, Youmuu, and then E onto a target in bot lane, sorta like how rengar can use youmuus so you can't see the "!" from his ult and react to it.

So yeah ,as you described it.

When I play Soraka it's hilarious when I see the enemy top laner TP'ing to gank bot. You just put down an E 1.5 seconds after you see the TP animation start and it's a free kill for your ADC

none of those are really assassins, but yes it really does go beyond assassins. Anything that tries to be an assassin also gets the shaft sometimes.

People need to take the support role and champion type more seriously. That's why in nemesis draft I'd keep getting pre-rework soraka and I was just like...

he's a fighter/assassin like fizz

they all get some ability to evade some damage temporarily and force alot of damage on a specific target. They also get a defensive steroid or something like that, xin gets megaheals.

They also tend to isolate you somethow though its not always a hard isolation

even fizzes ult has something like that.

I play Soraka and most of the time my ADC pushes deep in the tower the wave so their jungler comes to gank yet 90% of the time they either die or leave with all CD wasted.

Honestly its funny to watch.

The problem is at lower elo's players don't understand the function of a support, and as such play them poorly. Backline "caster" supports such as Sona Nami Lulu Janna can shut down not just assassins but ENTIRE TEAMS when played properly, and yet people think that we are the "weak" role. It makes me giggle, I love being underestimated.

The true hard counter to assassins is Bard (I'm a Bard main, totally no bias here. Yup, none): Hey Zed I see that Death Mark shuriken above my ADC's head, it would be a shame if they took a.............. time out

/sunglasses on

KONO RUBICK DA3 votes

Bard makes your ADC afk for 2.5, zilean makes them able to attack and afk for a second? of course we are only comparing their ability to shut down assassins

Since this game actually requires teamwork, it is really easy for those who go lone wolf to say assassins are broken. A good example of teamwork being needed is any game where the enemy has a Master Yi and I am playing Braum. With just a sinle q or auto attack and a little contribution from nearby allies, a stun locks down Yi and deletes him. it's not a slow so Yi can't counter it and the effect lasts long enough so even if Yi uses Q, he comes back out of it and is immediately stunned.

Good supports dominate good assassins.

morris12 votes

It's usually a psychological warfare whenever the support is near a high priority target. I have this weird mentality where said squishy is nigh invincible in the presence of a support unless I am stupidly fed and most of the time I just end up not engaging them.

JMoormann2 votes

What do you mean? I should stop going full AP Karthus support against Zed?

Eevee In A Jar1 votes

Man more like specific supports counter assassin's. Brand counters assassins? Nah, he'll get assassinated with the ADC. Lulu? If used right yes. Primarily more like hard stops against physical assassination attempts so like Alistair/Blitzcrank/Leona/Braum. Taric is good but I'll be honest if a good assassin comes in at you, your ult takes too long to fulfill its effect. Just having Alistar Q, then W you away is pretty efficient. I mean Janna is also top tier support because her ult is so easy to cast and her Q/W allowing her to peel like an insane hoe

Depends what champion. Take Leblanc for example. They only way you can safe your teammates is to use item 3190item 3401 preventively. Often you won't be able to get the summoner 3 off before the blink. The range of exhaust is 650. While the range of her blink is 650(+250 from the hitbox). So basicly it's impossible to get the exhaust off before the damage is aplied. And that's just for the first cast. With her ult she can dubble it making counterplay during the process impossible. She might be a primary assasin. She still has a lot of the stengths a mage would have.

Another example is Fizz that can counter summoner 3 pretty well with Playful / Trickster. He can take out 1 second of the duration. But often you will have not room for counterplay to get the exhaust off before he can aply his combo with the 400(+330) range on it. It's still more counterplay than LB tho. With experience you can handle it as a support. But we still hate him for it.

in both cases the mere presence of a ready support completely changes the math on how and when they can even afford to engage. alot of times the exhaust is more to say "no" to the free escape and if they fail to kill things can get very ugly very fast. Especially if the enemy can't be forced to give up on retaliation like in that worlds game where fizz goes in, gets wrecked and tries to E out but tristana's like "swiggity swooty, I'm come'n fo dat booty!" and chases him over the wall and kills him then uses her reset to get back in position fast.

then you got champs like zyra with that disengage. Worlds again, kassadin wants to kill ashe but zyra puts her ult right under or next to ashe for preemptive disengage followed by volleys and other spammy shit. One time kass tries to get in but the ult catches him and ashe steps back volleys and heals ults and locks him down again and proceeds to slow him for zyra's E as he tries to get out. Kass's team was with him but there wasn't really much they could do. Meanwhile splitpushing zed assassinates their towers while assassin prerework kass does nothing of importance.

This is why I love playing support

What better way to tilt someone than to beat them by sheer outplaying them, it's not my damage that makes them lose, it's my mechanics

I once beat a super fed zed as support shaco, I had sight stone, banner of command, CDR boots and FQC (and blue buff cuss clone) putting me at 45% CDR with a little survival, a little damage and vision, then as my team was trying to mock contest Baron I split push bot, they sent zed after me (he was thier most fed he had close to full build and it was about 25 min in)

He shadowed over a box I just placed, and ended up in another box, he ulted after the fear as I was running and I jumped into another box, I then ulted and had clone run while I AAed he flashed after clone and ended in another box, he killed clone and almost died, I chased him he ran to his previuse shadow and ran toward his base, and ran into the box I placed in the beginning of the fight and died (he ran into 5 boxes through the the fight thanks to him chasing clone)

That was a support shaco beating a fed zed, how? Mechanics

Mechanics of the champion do not mean you outplayed someone.

Knowing the enemies mechanics and applying your own mechanics to beat them is the very definition of outplaying someone, especially when they are severely ahead of you in your builds and stats

I was support shaco with 3 support items and boots, he was a zed with 4.5 items and boots

My items were sight stone, FQC, and banner of command, with CDR boots, the fact I killed him in a 1v1 was purely by outplaying him through my understanding of mechanics and use of strategy

Note: Squishy supports (except maybe Lulu because she's ridic) only counter assassins if the assassins aren't directly targeting them.

Because you go down even faster than the adc if the assassin decides they've had enough of your CC and full combo's you faster than the cast time of your CC spell.
