Now that Mana Regen's been nerfed pretty hard,

Can we bring some mana costs down on certain mages?

Anivia: Q is 80 mana at rank 1, ult eats 75 mana PLUS 40/second at rank 1. Galio: no spell below 60 mana at rank 1. Malzahar: Q and W cost 80 and 90 mana at rank 1, respectively.

I single out these champions because they are pure mages, champions that don't really have anything to do BUT cast spells (Unlike, say, Diana, who has an AA steroid on her passive).

I'm sure there are others, feel free to post em.

You didn't mention Lux . 130 mana on her E is BRUTAL, especially when she has no mana refund mechanic.

i dont see the need to buff malzahars mana costs.

he has an inbuilt manareturn mechanic. with 1 or 2 dorans rings he shouldnt ever get into real trouble when it comes to mana. just manage your e properly and youre gonna be fine.

i think anivia needs a mini rework. they could increase the projectile speed of her q very slightly, increase the range of her e, but remove the ability to get double damage on her e from her ult. (only if she lands the q)

makes hitting the q more rewarding, and easier to follow up with an e, and removes the r + e poke cheese.

As someone who mains Malzahar, his mana is fine atm; the costs he on Q and W are high, but only because if they weren't he would never run out of mana (hell, even now he rarely does unless he really focuses on harassing you instead of clearing with his E)

Its probably best to focus on those who have high costs WITHOUT a way to mitigate them, like Lux.

Galio needs it the most. He is a melee champion and has to rely on spells for any poke at all.

Janna Anivia Lux

I can see Malz having high costs since he has a mana return mechanic, but these three have no reason to have high costs. Sure it's important gameplay to have resource constraints, but Anivia especially feels more crippled by it than gated.

Anivia's ultimate needs a high mana cost or sieging just dosn't work. Hell, nothing works. If she can build up the mana/mana regen to keep up with her ultimate you have a really boring game.

Galio... actualy, 60 mana is about average for mages, I think. That isn't too bad.

Malzahar has a mana return passive on his E. I think that is why he has such high mana costs.

Anivia Is gated in the early game because she is one of the strongest lategame champions in the game. Even then a skilled enough player can easily manage her early game and still get kills.

Galio I've never heard of people complaining about his mana. 60 mana is hardly bad. And maxes out at 80. Problem champions have 100+ at max rank. Athene is even almost core on him because of the MR->AP making it better than Morello in almost every situation(mainly as long as he's not starved for gold).

Malzahar His E clearing a full wave restores 100-130% of it's mana cost. This can chain into the enemy champion for easy damage. His Q and W are to offset this. His W isn't something you should be casting too often anyway. Q also has some high base damage, A 3 second silence(I think it's the last remaining 3s CC non-ulti in the game and it can hit multiple targets). Malz only runs into mana issues if he can't fully use his E. Which is easy to use with AA's and his passive helping. You just have to be smart about not pushing the lane and getting ganked.

Malz is the only pure mage of those 3. Anivia is partly a support. If it wasn't for her mana costs she probably would be a top-tier support. Galio is a tank as a primary roll. He just happens to also be able to get high damage while being tanky. Similar to Rammus.

Swain this guy agrees with you. his mana problems are so retarded he becomes useless after 6 seconds in a fight. yet he receives NO love. EVER.

edit: the only way to become viable is chug down a blue buff OR buy an athenes to synergize with his passive. this depends on whether or not he gets kills/assists. this is of course not the ideal build.

How did they nerf mana regen?

Tiny Potatoes6/1/2015, 10:04:42 AM1 votes

I'm going to have to agree with Kile147 here, except addressing Anivia rather than Malzahar.

I've always rushed either item 3010 or item 3028 on Anivia, and I almost never run into mana troubles, bar lategame where you're going to be ulting a lot. Anivia's damage is very high among mages even in the early game, so I feel the high mana cost of her Q helps to balance that out. Also, remember that Anivia doesn't actually want to use her Q early, and she only starts putting points in it past level 7, so that 80 mana cost is about as high as it gets until you get your mana regen item. As long as you're careful with Anivia and manage her skills properly, mana really shouldn't be an issue, and I worry that reducing her mana costs would make her hideously OP, since she could pump out unreal amounts of damage throughout the game with no real limiting factors.
