Does anyone actually get rewarding games anymore?

I feel like a "good game"'s definition has warped drastically this season. Im talking about the games that are neck and neck, the scores might be up or down a little, but never more than maybe 5 or 7 kills at 20-30 minutes. The game feels even, never one-sided, as if both sides have a fighting chance. I think i have had that feeling ONCE this entire season out of the hundreds of games ive played...But even in that game there was literally only one teamfight at 27 minutes that just decided the game, and we pushed to the nexus and won.

In the current state of the game, it feels like a "good game" has become a matter of "How inconceivably fed can i get as we stomp on them like ants?" Games never feel challenging anymore, it honestly feels like the only point in the game that matters is the laning phase, as an overwhelming majortity of games are decided by that unless they inconceivably throw, and typically that has to be getting 5 man aced and losing baron. Games just dont feel rewaring or even challenging anymore.

I don't feel happy or like I had a lot of fun when I win games, I just feel relieved that I didn't completely waste 30 minutes.

H 34/24/2016, 2:07:20 PM16 votes

I notice this same thing exactly too. So many stomps either they win by 1.5+ our kills or we win by that much. It happens so frequently way more than last season. Just had a 27-1 game the other day and although it was normal I still see very big stomps in ranked all the time. Games also feel much shorter like 10-20%.

Athenes Lulu4/24/2016, 6:56:52 PM13 votes

As someone who mains something that fares so much better in teamfights than in lane... nope.

Laning phase is nearly everything nowadays. Skirmishes are won mainly by stat checking, and this even expands to simply what you picked. No armor/MR? Prepare to die in 0.5 seconds. One mistake? Hah, bye. Even games designed to troll the fuck out of players for small mistakes (cough Fire Emblem yes I am a strategy person) are much more forgiving than that.

And this is already without DynamicQ. With that, it makes the already bad game to worse. Losing, obviously, is no fun, but winning isn't either. There's not much room to learn and improve on if you're heavily stomping, or getting heavily stomped.

Even though I have been maining support for a long time and that I've been through some of the most annoying metas, those are nothing compared to the current one right now. Hell, my last ranked game was weeks ago because even duoing is unrewarding.

If a support main who duos regularly and is quitting, this is probably a good hint that the game is going strange right now.

Wulf Of Highland4/24/2016, 2:40:20 PM12 votes

Nope I find this game wholly unrewarding more and more. I think I might just not be into this game anymore. Every match is annoying to me and i think I get a close game one in thirty games.

Champs are even more metalocked than usual, the same items(mostly onhit) are still powerful, supersnowball, dyna queue, toxicity is still increasing...sigh..

slippykitten4/24/2016, 9:31:28 PM9 votes

no, the answer is no. People do not get rewarding games. Some people enjoy getting so fed that they can stomp everyone, and they my pretend thats rewarding, but there are no more "good games". Riot killed those.

disregardable4/24/2016, 1:36:23 PM6 votes

My teammates feel like they have those games all the time. It's why they never surrender.

Are4/25/2016, 12:07:10 AM5 votes

Games don't feel neck and neck, but I think it's just the overall feel of the game. It's more like, one team does really well, until they throw, and then it just goes back and forth, or there's constant pressure to try and end, so the game feels frustrating.

Papa Slothy4/24/2016, 7:31:24 PM5 votes

I had one game back in the preseason, before anyone started abusing everything

I GANK LANES4/24/2016, 8:13:50 PM5 votes

no. objectives don't matter any more shit's a joke rn

Eevee In A Jar4/25/2016, 2:46:03 AM5 votes

Hell fucking no. I never have gotten an extremely close game even when it was backdoored. It's just not exciting. Doubly so when shit faced retards who can't climb out of bronze 4 because they go 0/5 in the first 5 minutes rank up easily thanks to this new system yet people continue to turn a blind eye saying there's nothing wrong with it haha

And when was it considered a good idea to have split pushing > team fights? I never liked the idea of losing game after 1 team fight but it's never been this bad to a point average pro games play like bunch of fucking pussies playing the safest and slowest split push I've ever seen. Prior seasons, split push felt SO dangerous, SO scary, So fun and exciting. Split pushing used to be amazing to see because it was use of perfected map awareness and lane rotation. Now, not so much. Just place a stupid ass ZZ rot here, and as long as this lane is pushing we good. It's just not the same.

I have the most fun in games in rank where we are losing so bad that our entire team just starts trolling and feeding everywhere, trying to have fun. Games where I win I don't really have fun anymore. When I play with friends and the rare occasion I get worthy opponents, I have the time of my life. But that's only been one game for me. For this entire season. This season just downright sucks; and it isn't just a mere complaint of a salty player. I didn't even play a single game today. It's not that I'm doing extremely terribly or tilting either. Wins/doing well/everything that gave me satisfaction isn't satisfying anymore.

MrBuffington4/24/2016, 2:30:47 PM4 votes

Eh, they feel more snowbally, but death timers means you can throw harder than ever, lol. It sort of evens out, but neither thing actually makes the game more fun, so....

zmmby4/24/2016, 3:58:07 PM4 votes

Snowball stompfest by cancer premades, i havent got a rewarding game for a while now when i felt that the opponent actually won with a fair champion and fair items, and dont tell me to pick them myself then because thats not what i wanna do. i play the champions which has the most interesting spells and background, not for flashy LC$ kills. Id rather win a game with fiddlesticks, velkoz, kassadin or someone who's actually not insanely broken.

its always these kids who pick the most broken champ and item by current patch with their premade friends to boost them up. same people who eat diet pills instead of hitting the gym, pathetic mentality by weak people.

its the new generation of games, which are under 18 - writes "salt much, bro?" "u mad bro" like wtf really, i remember the good ol' "n00b" why are you even calling someone "bro" if your intending to insult him - the whole thing is just so stupid because your acting like the person your offending is a brother, someone close to you and then insult him. its just lazy work.
its too much of a douchebag attitude these days, i imagine everybody as scumbag steve.

for me? i just troll as a support on fill now since that's anything i can do as a solo player.

i pick the champion i want and mute all.

TBH I find league boring now because I keep getting people in my elo that were boosted by their friends so I just play BO3 alot more till no man's sky comes out and at least in BO3 my skills makes more of a difference vsing a stacked clan of master presteiges than vsing a premade 5

Bhagswag4/25/2016, 1:19:49 AM3 votes

"gg" has drastically changed its meaning to me.

It's not like battlefield 3 where I can win or lose, but still have fun because it's about you running around, being able to kill anyone regardless of how many kills they have. And when I get tired of playing medic, I can switch to recon mid game, or machine gunner, or tank killer.

League has really nice characters and mechanics. But it's more frustrating than rewarding. Meh, what do I know, I'm unranked and unskilled.

Avios14/25/2016, 2:09:18 PM3 votes

Rewarding? Back in my day...

Universal Boop4/24/2016, 8:09:42 PM2 votes

Less than a week ago i had a very intense game every team fight was close. finally after a solid 20 second team fight of just back and forth brawling we won the fight and ended the game. that was a good game.

Combozone4/24/2016, 6:00:04 PM2 votes

I've had a few games like that (me starting at the midpoint of... season 4? It was around Heimerdinger 's update), where it would be neck and neck all the way through, and even if I lost, it was always a great game to play. Nowadays, I think I've had ONE for like... half the season? Granted, I'm not playing as much as I used to, but I should be having closer games centered around more teamfights than "instant win" or "instant lose".

Average Bard4/24/2016, 9:01:26 PM2 votes

I'd rather have a game where both teams dick around and do some stupid stuff like play hide and go seek or 1v1 Gladiator Battles at Baron Pit than have a game where we do what we're meant to do. Also, another fun thing to try are LoL Races. You Start in the middle and make laps around the map and try to win.

Only Play Darius4/24/2016, 9:15:31 PM2 votes

I actually had a really good ranked game recently. We lost early game and almost surrendered but came back through solid teamfighting. Then again there were no premades on either side

Parceval4/25/2016, 4:15:19 AM2 votes

Yes. I do.

But, I do concur that what they've done to balancing the meta has hurt the statistics of this. Without a doubt it's far more 'one-game-i-win' than it was in s5, they've back rolled quite a bit on that count with weaker towers, lower vision, etc. I'd love to see them improve that element of the game.

VivaLaKitten4/25/2016, 3:50:59 PM2 votes

I have fun playing custom games with friends :D I only play pvp to get some chests or keys now and then why else would people play without friends?

Strawberrycocoa4/24/2016, 6:58:05 PM2 votes

I like games where the match is mostly even until one team make a a good finisher play. Games where we dominate them are okay but kind of dull because they can't play back (I mostly just feel bad for them at that stage because it sucks being on the receiving end of), and games where they stomp us are why I have these scars on my arms. /s

Dengeden4/24/2016, 6:40:29 PM2 votes

In part this is because the community gets every champion gutted that can fall behind in the laning phase and still be useful. Mostly, however, it's you growing bored of the game, this game can still feel incredibly intense if you really get into it, knowing your next step could win or lose the game. Wether it's laning phase or fighting for vision around objectives or rotating.

Goosetard4/25/2016, 9:23:18 PM1 votes

I've had some, but I feel like the ones I got in past seasons were from being at a higher Elo. I still haven't recovered from the "soft" ranked reset because I queue with friends a lot and tend to lose a lot when I do so. It's therefore hard for me to tell if the reason I'm not getting these "satisfying games" as often as I used to is because of season 6 mechanics or because I'm at a lower Elo than before.

PbJMpP4xzk4/25/2016, 2:32:30 PM1 votes

i find myself surrendering WAY more often this season or seeing my enemies doing so. There is another issue, not only stomps, but also which comp or char stomping you for exemple i played irelia vs maokai lately and its so frustrating to know that you are a bruiser vs a tank and you deal true dmg but it didn't even feel like this kind of match up maokai is actualy more of an assasin than anyting else he can win every trade and just finish you off under your tower when you get low so either you back and lose cash plus exp either you die under your tower feeding him more losing cash and exp anyway. there are so much toxic matchup in the game right now i think riot lost it long time ago in some kind of balance and rather than having a soloQ i would enjoy a rollback to an old patch.

I try to savor everything I can. Look for the positive where I can and be thankful. One really rewarding game I had came off of a mistake. My duo partner forgot to accept a trade in my last promo match for G1. He was supposed to go sej jungle and I was supposed to go soraka sup. Instead I had to jungle with heal and windspeakers and he had to play Soraka with smite. I ended up going 2/0/7 that game doe (after being counter jungled so hard that my entire topside jungle was permanently gone) and I got promoted! I felt absolutely great that I won against all odds there. One of the most rewarding games I had in a while.

My last promo match into plat was also pretty rewarding too. I finally made it to play. DIAMOND HERE I COME. xD

Wickedfates4/25/2016, 3:47:15 PM1 votes

i feel like i had a rewarding game when a terribly toxic player loses the game they were so sure they were going to win, so they flamed everyone during the game.... then are salty at the end....

this is my new idea of a good game....

sad.

To be fair I've been playing since season 1 and I've had about 20 close games in total.

And I hated them.

I'd much MUCH rather know if I'm going to win or lose early on then haveing to play 110% and barely scrap by a win with our nexus at 30 life (that happened once had to go watch TV it was so stressful)

forresto4/25/2016, 9:21:08 PM1 votes

I main urgot, so yes. I get a lot of very satisfying games.

ZT Xperimentor4/25/2016, 4:06:57 PM1 votes

I concur; I said it before & I'll say it again, curbstomps aren't fun to play (for either side) and they're boring to watch.

Joek91004/26/2016, 7:42:29 PM1 votes

The best games in my honest opinion are the ones that are super close, like even if I lose those games I am still super excited and pumped because of how close a game was. But now it's like oh most of our team died in that one fight where we had no vision because there is no ward buying and one person on our team missed one ability and that means the game's over now cause we're dead forever.

Zexion4/25/2016, 6:37:56 PM1 votes

No. That is exactly why I quit playing altogether. I've been a player since pre-season 1, and it is clear as day from this season that they have no idea what they are doing anymore. I just lurk the boards occasionally to watch the game slowly die. (I quit after the Poppy rework patch)

I sincerely recommend giving Dota 2 a try, or even HotS. They both show passion that I haven't seen from LoL in a while.

ChocolaTea4/25/2016, 7:35:02 AM1 votes

It's difficult to balance a game when the goal is shorter game time (30-40 min) without snowball potential.

The problem I feel isn't that turrets aren't strong, it's that they're strong early and weak late game. The initial turret shield buff for 10 minutes or so have got to go. And give turrets a scaling damage so that they have an impact mid to late game.

Champs that are snowbally are snowbally sometimes because of their kit, but also sometimes because of their build ie Abyssal Sceptre. Chalice used to be more common for the mr, or even armguard rush.

Another thing is the runaan's build that speeds up the power proc and champs with hyper scaling abilities like azir soldiers, his power multiples for each soldier! What should happen instead at least for items is to make these hyper scaling items more costly, and so would only really factor in as a viable option late game to finish a build, and if people do start with a hyper carry build they can only blame themselves for losing early. Abilities are a bit trickier to manage as it is built into the champion, and would heavily impact the champion if it were buffed/nerfed since it has to balance with all other champions.
