The removal of sight stone will only serve to hinder the team.

It doesn't matter what lane you play warding is a huge part of league, by putting the active to support itemsitem 3301 item 3302 item 3303 when finished it means nobody else, but bot lane can reliably have a sight stone in game. If your Lux support decides she's to good and grabs a item 1056 then who's going to grab the item 2049 ? It's generally the top laner. Teemo Who instead of having someone else to look out for him has to do all of it by himself and counter jungle to help allow his jungler to know when and where the enemy jungler is. Now Teemo is just knowledgable about warding, but it goes the same for most tanky top laners/ bruisers, so long as they are ahead enough to see it worth value. With the removal the top laners won't have that option. They'll have to substitute to rng kleptomancy if it's what the team needs, but that's just not good enough. If your going to remove sight stone and enforce supports to stack it tell a certain time frame within the game then bring back item 2056 Because the worst we can do is make support players feel like without them we're nothing when we should be helping them making their role less valued, but just be more coopartive.

TLDR: Without sight stone active it's like jungling without smite. Your team will have a disadvantage throughout the game because of the reliance on the single player. Except there's no way to know if you should dodge until after they buy items and you can't fix it because only bot lane is capable of having sight stone active.

  1. Riot said that the new sighstone should come online roughly around the same time most supports are able to buy it now.

  2. As for your point about a support not buying SS: the sighstone is going to be tied to buying a support item. Even troll support picks or mages masquerading as support will buy a starting item because unless they are brand new to the game, they will quickly realize that whatever benefit they got from Doran's is not worth the hit to economy from not going Frost Needle or Ancient Coin.

  3. You don't want your top lane to build sightstone, it sets him too far back in build. You have yellow trinket wards and all 5 players should be buying control wards throughout the entire game. I know controls can be killed easily, but this is by design. Riot said when trinkets and control wards first came out that they want vision battle to be impactful and strategic. Not just like an economic race of who can afford and is willing to buy more wards cuz you can ward everything.

  4. You can't balance a game around brand new players who have no idea what they are doing, or trolls who refuse to learn or adhere to what is good. The game is constructed in a manner where it just makes the most sense to have supports be the vision gods. Your problem here is not that you soon won't be able to buy sightstone on top; your problem is that you are at an MMR where Lux support thinks she can go Doran's first item. NOTE: Riot even killed the need for junglers to build Sightstone by putting in Scout's knife for more vision. I mean if your support won't build a support item AND jungle won't go Scout's Knife in that same game I think most everyone would agree that your team probably deserves to lose that one.

I've literally never seen a non-support build a sightstone.

The most common thing I see in these kinds of posts is the lack of realization that the ward placement active can be obtained when you upgrade your support item to tier two. Before, you'd have to spend 850 gold, plus another 800 for sightstone. Now, its a flat 850 as long as you complete the item quest, saving the support money, and likely improving the role in general by preventing most AP Supports who do nothing but build damage (Lux Velkoz Brand ) from dominating so early on.

I do, however, agree that the item 2056 should come back as a purchasable item, since the lack of being able to rush sightstone may leave bot lane prone to frequent ganks.

Also, there's nothing preventing other laners from picking up a support item. I've seen lots of junglers pick up a Spellthief's just for its extra gold, and now that it builds into vision for a lot less, they can get a boosted gold income, plus vision without having to get Tracker's Knife.

I can see why you'd get a bit upset over something you're so used to, but wait until the patch goes live and give it a try, then come back and update your post. :3

I'm not upset, I'm glad we can agree somewhat and I'll look forward to seeing what happens. You can buy support items in other lanes, but it doesn't mean you'll be completing the quest the time a support would. I'll update it though when I give it a try.

If you are going botlane it doesnt matter how good you are at "mage support" buying support item will ALWAYS be more useful than a doran's ring just because of the money it generates which helps you get your items faster without relying on minion gold. Right now sightstone is just a wasted item slot that can be used for better items, yes the current bonus effects are really good and will HAVE to be returned to supports somehow, but this is a step in the right direction for support itemization, no doubt.

Also nobody is buying sightstone outside of supports, no one.

Also nobody is buying sightstone outside of supports, no one.

This is probably because Supports have been unofficially dubbed the "ward bitch," since supports usually benefit from the health most and don't need the item slot for more damage.

JackMcSnipeyz1 votes

The only reason reason supports buy it is because they are the only ones who arent as item reliant as other champs, nobody buys it because it's not a good item, it's almost a must but it's a wasted slot that can be used for a more diverse build path than just flat health and nothing else besides the active. Which is why combining it into a more efficent gold generating item makes sense for it as a support item.

I didn't deny any of that, nor did I even mention anything in the majority of the comment?

Your tone is that of someone arguing against a point but the opening text seems to agree with my point. Honestly I'm confused right now and don't know how to respond XD

JackMcSnipeyz1 votes

Oh i thought you were saying the only reason nobody buys sightstone is because supports already get them, never mind, i guess we agree.

SamBunzly1 votes

Ah, lol. Either way, I could have been a bit more clear in my stance. I'll take this moment into consideration next time I make a post. ^ Thanks :3

I had not thought about it this way before, but OP has a great point.

Supports are just going to get flamed even more if they don't get the ward items now because literally nobody else can do it.
