Yasuo does not need his passive shield.

I feel his shield is just a mechanic that riot put in just to get more people to play this champion. He already has a good passive in his double crit chance. A good change will be to remove his shield, but increase his base damage on his q by 5.

He actually does. If he didn't have his shield, he'd basically be a significantly more conditional Riven. You couldn't play him mid.

Maybe he was meant to be played top like any melee champion.

in my experience most tops break Yasuo over their knees

Yasuo can actually have a degree of success in the bottom lane, especially with braum or zac supp

That'd make his windshield completely useless. He's definitely meant to be played against ranged champions. His whole kit is very cohesive together. If you take one thing away, the whole thing falls apart.
