What if Wit's End gave percentage MR steal instead of flat MR steal?

In general I actually like its identity. It's the Maw of Malmortius/Hexdrinker for more on-hit oriented builds, it gives MR, attack speed, on-hit and MR stealing on-hit, 5 per stack, up to 25 flat.

The problem I have with it is that the flat reduction seems somewhat out of place. I've been studying how armor and MR works over the past few weeks which led me to belive that.

To sum it up, every point of MR or armor means increases your total health by 1% ( it doesn't actually do that but the formula basically equates to this ), so if you have 2000 HP and 50 MR, you will actually have 3000 HP against magic damage dealing target's. Remember that shields, heals etc. also count towards this equasion. This is why you always want to have a balance between health and resistances, not just HP or just armor/MR.

What this means for penetration and resistance reduction is that flat resistance reduction/pen is good against squishies who don't have a lot of resistances, which means you will take a higher percentage of their total resistances away. 15 magic pen against 30 MR will mean that you take half their MR away, while for a tank with let's say 150 MR it doesn't make a lot of difference for them. Against those, you basically want percentage reduction and pen, especially for bonus resistances.

Let's come back to Wit's End. Think about who builds it, if you build it at all. It's bruisers and on-hit carries, both of them ideally wanting to shred the front line and not the back line. As I already said, flat reduction is good against squishy tragets, not tanky ones. This is kind of shitty if you think about it. This means that if you focus the front line like most of its users usually do, you do still get quite a bunch of MR but the extra damage you will deal against the enemy tank/bruiser as a result isn't a lot.

Likewise, if you actually get to attack a squishy, you won't get to make use of it anyway - after 5 full auto attacks are off, the squishy will probably either be already dead or really low on HP or he got away, either way you won't make use of the full stacks but only just a few.

Flat reduction is a stat for assassins, and I wouldn't call Wit's End an assassin item.

What if instead of flat MR reduction, it gave percentage reduction, so 6% per stack, stacking up to 5 times for a maximum of 30%? ( this might seem like much more than the flat reduction at first - keep in mind that in the late game squishies have about 30-57 MR, 65-92 with an MR item while tanks have about 62-150+ in their full build, generally less in the early to midgame so it's not that big of a difference. Also, the cost could be readjusted. ).

For ranged magic damage/on-hit carries like KogMaw Corki Kayle Teemo Kennen it would basically be a mix between a specialized Maw of Malmortius for them and make up for the fact that Last Whisper and its upgrades aren't as afficient on them as on most physical carries, being some sort of replacement for them.

For melee on-hit bruisers it would instead be some kind of on-hit Black Cleaver, with attack speed and on-hit serving as offensive stats rather than AD and CDR, magic pen serving as armor pen and MR being the defensive stat rather than HP. A bruiser item if you stacked a bunch of health already and want to go for a semi-offensive item to round out your build, or a nice first pickup against a magic damage dealing opponent. This would suit champions like Warwick Shyvana Jax DrMundo Chogath TahmKench Udyr .

Let me know what you think!

that would actually make the item worse in a lot of scenarios.

on squishy targets , it would make it give and take less MR and on tanky champs, it would give you a warped return on it since you would be shrinking the total each time u stole. It would also make it weird/hard for the item to calc how much MR it is giving u to begin with since the number would be in constant flux even tho there is a stack cap.

Imo, Wits End is fine as is.
