For a bit of context, my two main roles are jungle and top lane. As such, I am speaking from my experience playing both sides involved.
As a jungler, I can and will keep ganking a lane if I get kills from them. If I see someone consistently overextending, overstaying and/or not warding, I will come up for the free gold (and to get my top laner snowballing).
Your main objective is to make yourself an undesirable target for the enemy jungler.
My advice to you would be to:
- Manage the minion wave. If the enemy freezes the minion wave so that you have to overextend to farm, you are quite easy to gank. If you freeze the minion wave near your tower, you are safe from mostly ganks unless they tower dive you (and defensive wards behind your tower can make this extremely risky for them since both you and your allies are aware ahead of time).
- Use your trinkets to ward your lane. I can not tell you how often I see people with less than 5 wards placed after a 30 minute game when they've had the Yellow Trinket all game (and this is up in Platinum).
- Purchase a pink ward for your lane (or jungle). They are only 75G and last until destroyed; a defensively placed ward can go unfound for 30 minutes in top lane quite often. Even if the ward is quickly cleared by the enemy jungler, you saved yourself from at least one gank.
- Watch your enemy laner. If they are acting uncharacteristically aggressive, they are probably setting you up for a gank.
- Know where the enemy jungler will typically be and behave appropriately. If bottom lane is overextended, they may go to gank them. If buff camps just came up, they will probably be clearing them (and you should know which spawns first if you are attentive, so you know where they will start and end their clear).
Also, farming junglers are not a liability. While their team has to play a little safer early game (since they are less likely to receive ganks or counterganks), they can make up for it with their post-6 ganks, teamfighting, or late-game scaling quite easily while early-game junglers fall off.
Even then, many power-farming junglers can still gank (and get early kills) when an opportunity presents itself (so many people don't expect the level 4 Diana gank or the level 2 Amumu invade :P).
