Why does matchmaking try to match MMR instead of ranks?

I get some of the benefits to having MMR, but if it shifted to balancing via ranks.... (Which would really work well in soloQ but whatever) Wouldn't this sort everyone out to where they're supposed to be really quickly? Those who are better than their current piers would go up faster and adversely for those are not "up to snuff" so to say. Idk maybe a MMR or sorts is better I dunno if I see it right now though. (If you think about it though, MMR in DQ is bizarrely jumbled around in an effort to accommodate players who have no business playing together. Which is fine in normals, but not in ranked.) Leave your comments please, let's see if we can't make sense of all of this.

Here's the thing about the MMR version. If you massively out-MMR your current rank, you go up far more LP for wins, than you lose for losses. Furthermore, it allows the system by which you can jump whole tiers or even skip promotions based on MMR vs visible rank.

Just doing it by ranking would give you around equal rating for wins/losses, which would result in you getting a lot more screwed if you get a couple of un-carryable games.

MMR is faster system for sorting people out... and prevents people from stomping lower-grade players for as long.

MMR is the more accurate thing though. It's your true ranking. Leagues are only there to make your level of skill a lot more tangible, I'm pretty sure.

I'm seriously curious why the two were mixed in the first place. Ideally your rank would simply be a reflection of your MMR. In essence there would be no LP, no promos none of that bs, simply a rank that fluctuates with your MMR. I suppose I want one while essentially getting rid of the other.
