What to build on Heimerdinger?

I used to play him a lot, but I got too frustrated with how useless he was against certain team comps. The mini rework was really nice though--it definitely made him less feast or famine. I'm wondering what people buy on him now.

Zhonyas and morello seem like must buys, right? And void staff if the game goes late.

I'm not really sure what else synergizes with his kit. He can't really apply spell effects easily, so rylais and liandries seem like wastes. That leaves Rabadons, Ludens, banshees, or one of the hextech items. Any advice here? I just got ludens last game, but it felt pretty worthless to be honest, aside from the raw AP.

Not really. Ever since Rylai's was changed to work off summoned minions (during the mid-season mage update), Rylai's is super effective on Heimer as it pretty significantly increases his kiting power. Moreover, as soon you slow them with either your turret shots or your E, you can get the full effect from Liandries. Right now my standard build on Heimer is

Also make sure to run thunderlords as his w can proc it by itself.

item 3116 item 3157 are both nice items to have, keeps people in the turrets longer. otherwise normal ap stuff works just fine

magic pen is always nice on him since it also applies to his turrets attacks, rylais is also nice since the turrets apply it constantly and after that just your normal AP things like morello's and zhonya's
