Can we reduce Galio's mana costs?

There are a lot of aspects of Galio's kit that are a little dated. I imagine that Riot is planning on giving him a least a minor rework at some point. But, in the mean time, can we reduce his mana costs? This is easily the biggest issue that keeps him from seeing play, in my opinion. He has a relatively strong kit, but his laning phase as absolutely abysmal right now due to his crippling mana costs.

The problem has only gotten worse this pre-season. Chalice of harmony was a recommended item on Galio even before Athenes was released. Athenes has always been core on him since it was added to the game. Every time it's nerfed, he becomes a little less viable. With the across-the-board mana regen nerfs, Galio has crippling mana problems even after he completes athenes.

The problem is exacerbated by Galio's auto attack. He's a slow AP champion with a melee auto attack. In lane, he cannot safely last hit with autos. If he runs out of mana, he can't harass his opponent or safely farm. His mana problems often mean that he has to choose between trying to CS and trying to interact with his opponents--he doesn't have the resources to do both.

There's other, more complicated aspects of his kit that deserve to be looked at. But in the mean time, would it kill Riot to slightly reduce the mana cost on his Q? I love Galio's theme. I love his mid/late game play style. I love his aesthetic design--he's one of the only flying champions who looks decent. But his mana costs are too big of an issue for me to consistently pick him.

Galio is one of my favorite champions. I strongly agree that his mana costs need to be reduced. He's an excellent lane bully so long as he has mana which isn't long. Phreak addressed the athenes nerf as trying to remove it as a must buy and making it a defensivealternative to Morellos. I can understand this and lowering the mana regen if they'd give the damn thing more MR. Honestly though what sense does it make to have the the regen weaker on it then 2 dorans... good idea. Poor execution.

He really does need this, with the nerf to mana regen items he really doesn't have many early build items to prevent just going oom after a few rotations other than maybe double item 1056, it might actually be all it takes to get him back into regular play, I know I would play him a lot more if his mana sustain wasn't so bad, I already have his legendary skin.

Galio, and many others need to have their mana costs revisited, and updated.

I've got a better idea for Galio that I'll share on this thread once I have my computer back. It's a rework concept, and I'm looking for outside opinions, but his kit remains more or less the same.

While I think it would be nice to see mana changes to Galio, it wouldn't be fair to a champ like Brand. Brand has higher mana costs, AND he gains less mana per level + less mana-regen. So, if Riot does decide to help with Galio's mana costs, then it would only be fair for Brand to receive a similar buff.

I agree for some Galio love but he can totally last hit with melee in lane just fine. Put more points into W and he can just auto while sustaining from the regen, especially if he works towards maxing it which still gives him bonus AP when active on Galio for his other three skills. This is especially viable top due to often being melee opponents.

Anychance we can just give him range aa's? With him shooting lasers out of his eyes?

Why not just give Galio ranged auto

Galio is mana limited because that's a good way to avoiding him to become a monster when he shouldn't Overall I think it's a fine compromise to limit galio power early and mid without limiting his potential late, maybe only E costs could need slight tweaks, but after all the huge part of the mana will be burned on Q, and its damage is fairly high so it's fine high mana for high damage(relatively to a tanky champ, of course)

If anything he needs a huge VU update, cause its animations are too slow and clunky, including his AA animation that is terribad compared with the other champs in the league and not help you to lasthit, thus forcing you to burns mana to kill minions, and his E animation needs way better particle to be noticeable(like Nocturne Q but obviously without the dark colors) because at time you'll use it to help your mates to move but they won't acknowledge or would lose track of that because its particles confuses with the rift particles and given the high mana cost this could be crucial later when you'll be OoM cause you have used it earlier mana that got wasted cause no one got use of his E With these kind of QoL buffs also his mana management would be helped a lot

it's true he can't win many lanes for mages any more because of mana problems. I used to use him vs LB to keep her under control, but now you have to choose between harassing and csing.... and it's not like you can really ever not CS if you plan to be a threat by midgame.

If you're going to complain about Mana costs, Cho'Gath says hi. One Q early game take half your Mana. You can only use it twice before going OOM. There are many champions who need their mana costs fixed though.

I think (just a thought) it might be better if they upped the mana regen instead. not sure how different the effects would be but I just feel like mana regen would be a little better

yeah, ive ended up picking him a couple times lately and his mana problems are severe. they were against vlad and in the other, zed (lane swap OP). it was a joke trying to cs with only aa and poke with spells and still going oom while my opponents didnt even need to aa to farm and still harassed better than i did. he definitely could use some love.

side note: i think his biggest hindrance is that his aa are melee.

Agree with this.

I really think Galio needs to have better scaling MR, did you know his base and level 18 MR is the exact same as Quinn? the defined "Mage Tank" doesn't even have superior MR scaling for what he is typically identified with, that and the mana costs should be things Riot look into
