Between tanks (who he already has trouble dealing with) getting tankier, more emphasis being placed on base stats (of which his are...not good), the new Rift Herald completely shitting all over his splitpushing niche, and the fact that none of the items he even liked building are getting changed, it's already looking to be bad for him.

Add to that the fact that he's not even doing particularly well anyways, and...

Well, he's probably going to need some direct help.

Nasus has a splitpushing niche? What about all the other champs who splitpush?

Nasus' strategic niche is splitpushing. This does not mean that are not other champions who have splitpushing as a niche.

or rift herald can be a buff to make him a more powerful split pusher

Nasus doesn't really contest Rift Herald well.

He needs to take the first 20 minutes or so to stack up and get his items. Combine that with his very weak early game and...well, Nasus is usually only coming online by the time Rift Herald disappears, let alone by the time it's taken.

Yyyyyyes we do? Still massively tanky, still has the eye.

When it dies, it drops an item which gives the champ who holds it empowered Recall, and the item can be consumed to drop Rift Herald down a lane to siege it.
