All of this always reminds me of those debates about whether it's better to restrict freedoms to ensure greater quality for the majority by keeping tighter restrictions on those who would abuse the system or if it's better to never let abuse of the new restricted system take place by those who would mean to do so. We've all seen where abuse of systems in place can be done with malicious intent against people who have done nothing wrong. Although, in those debates it's usually about governmental-scale regulation in regards to safety and this is of far less consequence, but it's still what these remind me of. And it always boils down the same thing, essentially: If we impose more restrictions then those who would've abused the old system simply move to new ways of abusing the new system and the problem merely shifts positions rather than being solved. The discussion generally stalemates at that point because neither side can bring up compelling enough evidence for their case to make the other side budge and so it eventually just kind of peters out.

the toxicty that would created the whole 'i report you because bla bla" is enough to lose a game or to create a dodge

so what did it solve? nothing

It would be like the games

"Omg the jungler dosent gank me every .1 second pls reprot"

That alone always create a shit storm in chat if the jungler is a bit tilted he would reply because he would lay down the fact that the person who cry for ganks is a useless overxtended bronze player who die because he have no idea of the game

and from that the game is over

Same thing would happen in champ select if you put a reprot system

Had an autofilled support ask to trade me for adc. I said no. They banned my champ and picked Kalista to bind me and steal cs. I dodged, and wanted to report. Couldn't.

There are many problems with being able to report in the pregame lobby, just like there are with not. For example, people could report others for off-meta picks, just because they feel like it, or whatever else that isn't valid in the slightest.

The way I see it, there are three possible ways it would end up. Possibility number 1: Pre-game reports are almost entirely ignored, making them pointless. Possibility the second: Individual reports are readjusted to be less likely to matter because they are so much more common, meaning reporting someone now accomplishes even less. Possibility C: Nothing about how punishing players works changes, and the number of unjust bans and such goes up quite a bit.

Now, that's not to say there aren't positives to allowing pre-game reports, there are plenty, and you could argue they outweigh the negatives, but Riot thinks they don't, so you're kinda shit outta luck there.

It's more tilting than having to wait 15 minutes for a match when there are 5-4 dodges every time we queue and then the last person to lock in dodges at the very last second and then you get AUTO FILLED

Then what happens when duo people order you to play the champion they want to play with or try to shove you out of your role and hold the report button to your head like a gun?

Quite frankly this is a stupid idea. While I do agree banning someone's preferred champ is quite a dick move reporting someone for doing so is rather stupid.

Because how does riot even know if they did it on purpose if no one speaks. Also if they ban a champ to get someone to dodge and it works, how do you even report it?

Last of all you can't report someone for being a jerk. You can report someone for being toxic but not a jerk. There is a difference.

Dessem3 votes

Imagine the following: someone auto-fills Support. You get Mid.

The auto-fill demands you let him Mid and locks in Yasuo. YOU, however, do not want to Support.

You:

A) Dodge the game, lose LP and take a time penalty B) Lock in Syndra and go duo Mid/get a Yasuo Support C) Acquiesce to demands and play Support

In 0 of these situations is the troll negatively affected. Maybe in situation B, but ultimately you're losing LP at the end of the match (notwithstanding the trolls who somehow win as Support Yasuo or Zed).

Is it really such a stupid idea to introduce an option to report the player WITHOUT forcing you to take option B or C?

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

What I'm seeing here is that you want free dodges.

Yeah, it sucks to get that guy who wants mid instead, but until he actually takes the lane, he hasn't committed the crime. He's made a bluff. Believe it or not, Riot very heavily punishes people who steals lanes, but for them to do that, they have to actually do the crime. Them bluffing in the Pre-game isn't going to cut it.

The troll is negatively affected, because he's going to get punished, but honestly, if it's ranked, and someone is being difficult like that, would you rather bitch about it and lose, or just take support and try your best to win. Win or Lose, he's going to get reported and punished, Riot made a huge deal talking about how taking peoples roles was a big no-no.

So yeah, it is a stupid idea if you're just asking for free dodges. It's a "I don't want to feel bad" solution, when you could just man up and tough out the game as support, and try your best to win. Reporting pre-lobby accomplishes nothing you can't do post lobby, unless you just want free dodges.

Dessem3 votes

I think you misunderstand. I don't think reporting someone in champ select should result in a free dodge.

I think you should have the option to report someone in champ select, so either you start the game already knowing the player is flagged for his behaviour (how many eventually forget after a 20 min game?) and are less angry for it...

Or you dodge after all. You still take all penalties, but the troll doesn't get to come off scotfree to the next champ select. They're flagged for review, and if this is normal behaviour for them, they'll be punished.

It should reduce queue dodges in the long run because those dodges caused by trolls would be diminished when being a total asshat in champ select carries consequences even if someone chooses to dodge.

Dodging should still be discouraged by penalties.

MAKING someone dodge, however, should also be dissuaded.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

So it's literally a "feel good" thing....that's stupid. Just report them after the game, reporting someone before isn't going to make you feel any better. You're still going to feel angry that they ruined the game, and that they're actively being an asshole.

And what I said before still applies. They haven't committed an offense until you enter the game and they actually do it. There is nothing to report for, because the offense hasn't happened. All you have is intentions and a bluff. That in itself is not reportable. It's terribly rude, but until they commit the offense, they haven't done anything.

You know what will actively reduce que dodges? When people report the people who steal lanes, troll, etc, and actually did it in the game. Because they actually did the offense.

Dessem2 votes

I respectfully disagree. The moment you lock in Zed and demand to be let into the mid lane because you refuse to play other lanes, it's not "just a bluff", and it is already committing an offence.

If I call someone the n word in champ select, I shouldn't be excused on grounds of "it never went past champ select". The rules should apply to the whole of your conduct; in lobbies leading up to the game, the game itself and post-game.

I don't think behaviour should be excused on the grounds that someone dodged the game anyway.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

But he hasn't taken your lane yet. He's stated an intention. It's only an offense when you get into the game and has actually taken your lane.

If someone started ranting using the n-word, and other obscenities, you know what you could do? Send a Support ticket. There is no need to make a report option for something that doesn't actually happen that often. Behavior is only excused if you let it be excused, thinking that a report button is the only way to voice your displeasure is ridiculous.

rito has said multiple reports dont impact, and, it can quite clearly be shown to be a false report, just record what people are hovering

to people arguing against it:

It's not so much about people banning your champ. It's about people being able to say things like " oh, this and that, im gonna feed , lol F*** you" and getting away with it.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

So people stop declaring it in chat, and still do it regardless in the game. What are we fixing here? Is not being able to report before the game, make it impossible for you to report after the game?

Dynamiku Entry3 votes

If they do it in game, there is a good chance of it being punishable, which is why people SAY it in pre game lobby. If pre game lobby can get punished, they go back to doing it in game where it's even EASIER to punish.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

They don't need to say anything at all. Actions alone prove their faults. You report on what they do, be it them being toxic, or stealing a lane.

And being able to report in the lobby isn't going to make it easier to get punished... it's literally the same. They stole a role, they get reported, they get punished. They don't have to say jack shit. I could do all that without saying a single word.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Yeah, but most of them don't actually have the guts to troll/feed, because they don't want to lose their accounts.

They want to dodge because they want to play X champ, don't want to face X champ, or don't want X champ on their team.

So, they use intimidation and try to scare others into dodging.

You could not give in by just playing the game, but then, instead of having two losers, you have 5 of them. Because that one guy who tried to scare someone into dodging to save his own hide now drags everyone else down because they have to deal with him.

Dynamiku Entry1 votes

You can report them without them saying anything. That doesn't mean Riot's system will be able to detect toxic activity. I don't think you fully understand how the system works.

DemainaNyx1 votes

Or at least allow us to flag someone in champ select even if it doesn't go to a game. I had a champ select where my jungler said, "Hey support, swap with me. I want to troll our ADC." Apparently they were a 4 man premade according to their op.gg. Jungle went Tahm, mid went Ryze, ADC was Lucian, and top went Soraka. I witnessed multiple times that game where the Tahm ate Lucian and spit him into the enemy team or Ryze dropping his ult to send the Lucian into the enemy team.

Sckullzz1 votes

That's such a bad idea... that allows people to report based on assumptions before the game even starts.

Sarutobi1 votes

The only problem I have with it is that people will abuse it. Since it will basically give a free dodge you could false report someone and since nothing happens to you you basically get no consequences for falsely reporting someone.

I mean this is great for people who state in chat what their intentions are. But then they will improve and just say nothing till you are actually in game and by then it would be too late. But people will abuse it and use it because someone is playing off meta, or because the team comp on either side. Again what is stopping people from just false reporting and getting a free pass?

LyingOnLine1 votes

Because it's a report. Not a get-out-of-game-free card.

Sarutobi1 votes

{quoted}

Because it's a report. Not a get-out-of-game-free card.

So what would be the difference between reporting before the game, and reporting after the game?

LyingOnLine1 votes

Hopefully?

That it gets lodged in the case of somebody dodging.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

But there has been no crime. Should we punish words, instead of actions? Is saying "I'm going to rob a bank" as illegal as actually robbing a bank?

LyingOnLine3 votes

Is saying "I've put a bomb on that plane" the same as actually placing a bomb on the plane?

I'd say no, but I suspect you'd be facing negative consequences anyways.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Making the example more extreme doesn't prove your point, although I'm guilty of the same I suppose. Something more suited along the lines is probably the difference between saying you're going to litter, and then actually littering.

I haven't littered yet, can I be punished for something I haven't done yet?

Dynamiku Entry1 votes

Say "I'm going to rob a bank" in public. Go ahead.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Believe it or not, I actually have, as a joke with friends. And no one gave a fuck. I got a strange look for being loud in a public place, but no one came and confronted me about it, nor was I arrested for saying something. Nor is there any proof I was going to do so.

The same could apply to a game. Someone could be autofilled support, and without saying anything lock in a mid laner. Without that person saying anything, you have no idea what their intentions are. From an outside perspective, he hasn't done anything wrong UNTIL he has entered the game and done the crime.

Dynamiku Entry1 votes

Are you actually bragging that you got away with a felony crime?

#THE SOLUTION!

We dont need a pre match report... we need pre match chat logs added to reports.

First, if someone is told theyre reported in lobby (and you know people will tell them) then wait till they get in match and go wild acting an ass.

No, we need to report them at the end, and update the system to attatch the pre game lobby chat. People are emboldened to say all manner of shit in pre game lobby because they know its not in the chat logs.

Riot just needs to cache the pre game chat log to the same place as the in game chat log and save it to the report so when an account gets flagged they can read how (insert asshat here) banned someones pick intent, told them to suck a dick, admitted to being drunk while playing, and called someone a racial slur, then said nothing in the match except mid way through in all chat "my team is extremely toxic, especially (the person they troll banned their champ), pls report."

That situation is what you want to avoid, but there is no reason we cant just have the chat logs saved from pre game lobby and added to the report. That is what we need.
