Unpopular opinion: Ranked shouldn't exist at all in League of Legends
In my honest opinion, going into League and starting ranked for the first time I thought it would be a 1v1 style format of some sort. I never would have imagined that I have a solo rating determined from winning 5v5 matches. It honestly makes no sense. Not only that, but wins and loses are weighed the same. In almost every other game with a ranking system, loses are naturally weighed less than wins because getting a lose is a lot easier than trying to get a win.
This brings up a topic that League of Legends is a 5v5 game. It is not meant for ranked. Nobody should have a solo rating that is dictated from 5v5 games that could sway either way. There is no way in hell 1 person can change the game through 9 other players. This is why it takes hundreds of thousands of games to accurately get someones real rating. I've tried and failed my Gold promos 4 times. Do I belong in Silver 1 or do I belong in Gold? I can't really tell because I go on huge win and loss streaks. I'm sure everyone else goes through the same thing, they win a ton and end up losing the next 5 or so games. This is due to another stupid system in place, MMR. We don't even know what the hell that does because Riot won't tell us. All this in place, smurfs, lucky people, AFKers, Toxic players and the overall state of the game itself makes it really hard to grasp where I stand compared to the Gold 5 inting Jinx that went AFK the past 5 matches to the Silver 1 Riven main that helped me carry.
My point is that League just shouldn't have a ranking system for solo queue. It's inaccurate and mediocre at best, even Riot themselves said League was never meant for Ranked. It really doesn't belong. If even challenger players have to spend months and months of grinding to get their smurf account to challenger the system is incorrect and doesn't work.
