Let us use IP to buy key fragments

Once you have all the champs/runes you want, IP is worth nothing. Let us use the IP to buy key fragments since they never drop anyway.

They should let us to do this, but only be able to purchase one key fragment every six days or something. The random drop rate is ridiculous. I would go four to five wins without anything, then three wins in a row with fragments. Random keys are insanely frustrating and confusing.

Any compromise that's made here to make it easier to get these things, means less profit for Riot. I highly doubt anything will change.

You can't buy key fragments with RP though. You can buy a key but few people do.

Hopeslayer1 votes

it would have to be pretty expensive if they want to keep making money off RP, some people out there have like 100-200k ip sitting around

but im sitting on 10 chests all from S grades, and no keys

Evewynn1 votes

Well, IP is still good for getting blue essence to level up your champ masteries

I'd be happy if we could trade chests for keys or keys for chests.

Having 8 chests and 0 keys would let me do something.

Bhagswag1 votes

Hmm. Good idea. That is a hefty sacrifice to make. But I think it's fair.

Gary B Enkelis1 votes

Yeah they cost the same RP too (125).

how about this.... the amount of key frags you get being tied to the number of keys available by winning games

right now you can only get a max of 12 key frags per month by playing... you can spend IP to get them sooner, if you want more key frags then pony up the RP

General Esdeath 1 votes

How can you get more via IP? And I've been playing for 3 days without a key frag and my account was inactive for a month.

Ace Access 1 votes

key frags are obtained via RNG after winning a game.... if your in a pre-made team you chances of winning a key is a lot higher
the drop rates for key frags drops after each key you win

currently you can't get keys via IP

Sir Fuzzi1 votes

That's kind of nice, spend the IP to get them early or try to win them late. And besides that the chests only do so much for the players with stocked IP, given they'll have a fair shot at just getting something they already have.

Ace Access 1 votes

getting stuff you already own is annoying but we can't complain since we knew what we were getting ourselves into before opening the Christmas presents

plus therandom chances is also pretty good for Riot, now everyone is a customer for 100% of their products instead of people who are interested in it... if you get something you aren't interested in you can disenchant it or keep it around and activate it if you feel like trying it out

I got a PROJECT Lucian skin... I wasn't planning on unlocking Lucian anytime soon but this skin is EPIC so why not get him sooner

Trust me, key fragments will stop being the limiting factor very quickly, as long as you play about 5 games a week or so. You soon struggle against diminishing returns to get actual chests because getting S ranks on new champions is increasingly harder.

Key fragments drop to a 0%* chance to drop after about 10 games or so. There are a finite amount of keys you can get per week. But this amount of fragments is 3+. I have 6 keys I'm sitting on right now, and 3 possible chests I can earn but can't because I already got S ranks with 13 champions and it's harder each time. I legit had to learn vel'koz from scratch to rank 3 before I got the S rank chest for him.

*Yes, technically not 0%, but I'm rounding 0.5% and below down to 0.

Keepe1 votes

Well I have 10 chests sitting in storage, so. For now, my issue is keys. =P

RocketRelm1 votes

I kind of have to wonder how that even happens. From my experience, whenever the new week rolls around, I get 3-4 key fragments every week minimum. This is higher than the rate of chests, which is 1 week max (which evens out with key fragments at 3-1).

I'm not sure if the drop rate is different, but I have to wonder how you didn't get at lest 3-4 a week previously and thus got into this hole.

General Esdeath 1 votes

I've played 10 games with no frags =/

RocketRelm1 votes

I… to me that feels like enough of an anomaly that you should ask tech support.

(Unless you already got your fragments for this week. The chance drops to Approx 0 after you get 3-4 times, but is pretty high before that, and only won games count.)

General Esdeath 1 votes

My account was inactive (Except for 2-3 losses which can't give them anyway) for a month.

RocketRelm1 votes

The only other thing I can think of is that when playing nemesis mode I'm getting the "you must own X champion to get chests or key fragments", so if you're playing something you're only getting via Free Week, or a champion that you don't own at all such as via nemesis, that might be it.

General Esdeath 1 votes

Nope, only ranked

Kirius Dark1 votes

Feels like its even more than that for me. Right now sitting on 8 boxes and 2 key frags

i had 0 problems to get every chest i can get per week so far as a solo player. i just play a couple arams and usually get an S on one of the champions.

its really the grind for key fragments that anoys me.

@op: even better, riot should allow to buy key fragments with blue essence. so when you have all the champions, you have a way to recycle your champion shards into essence.

and since you can buy champion shards with ip, you could effectively buy key fragments with ip.

Actually I have the opposite issue. I rarely get key fragments, but I get plenty of chests when I play. I usually sit around 4-6 chests at a time, but rarely to I ever get any key frags to open them. Perhaps after two weeks of playing I'll get a key fragment, but the drop rate is so inconsistent that I'll go months without getting a single fragment as well. Sometimes I'm super lucky and get maybe 1-2 fragments in a week. But getting that third usually takes another 1-2 weeks for me of playing. I don't have as much time to play every day as I used to, but on the weekends I generally like to play 3-4 games a day depending on what time I can get on :)

It would be great if I could use IP to buy keys. While I don't have everything yet to buy IP wise, I still like the idea of Hextech and want to keep using it. I just wish it was more accessible and rewarding for players instead of tempting them to just spend money to open boxes because trying to get enough fragments to open a box is painstaking.

Tell that to someone who gets S every second or third game. Don't play broken meta champs, and it is easy. Hell, I got S even on Ahri 5 times in a row.. It's easy to get S and get chest. The only problem people have are their champion pools, because you need to earn S on multiple champions to get more chests. So here I am with 11 chests and no keys.

I don't have any trouble getting key fragments.I get them really often to be completely honest.Sometimes i even get 3 in a row

I have 6 chest with 1 key, feels bad boys... and since this came out I've gather 15 chest boxes, so I've had 28 key frag ever since it came out... and I need about 18 more.. thats if I dont get another S or one of my teammate does.

I bet 10€ to each person that replies to this comment, that Riot will never make this feature

I'll take that offer. Nothing to lose. :)

Warning: Trashy grammar and possibly contains no good points

The whole point of the chest system is to appease the people who were like "let's convert ip to rp" without suffering huge drops in profit. Now we have a way to earn "premium" items without spending money. Essentially riot gains nothing from you playing matches 24/7 since they don't advertise during games, so "how could they profit from a increased play?" Well dear forum member, to frustrate you into buying rp. By creating an avenue through which free to play players can "unlock legendary and epic skins through dedication" but then almost immediately defeating the purpose by causing the drop rates to parabolically decline as you earn each key fragment (not to mention placing a cap on how many chests you can earn) riot pisses players off to generate profit. Now, you may wonder "how is an emotion more lucrative than a virtual currency?!?". Well here's the thing some free to play players ACTUALLY can't afford or are unable to buy rp, HOWEVER some just don't want to but have to ability to. Rather than pissing off the entire group of Influence point saturated players ,or allow a sharp drop in their profit margins, riot decided to go with option three and somewhat satiate the desires of their broke player base while tapping into the wallets of previously free to play players. It's a Summary THANK GOD am I right To sum all that up. The heavily restrictive chest drop archetype aims to: -Increase player activity (secondary goal) -Allow free to play players to feel like they have the ability to equal paid players -Convert more players into paid members -Create a new market of RP items -Seem like a responsive company (promote their image among the league community as a caring entity instead of one that just wants your wallet) -And I guess move some discussion away from broken champs while they attempt to fix them

I'm not saying this was a bad move on riot's behalf, because honestly it's still the only way to earn skins without spending actual money. This is just my attempt to reason out they mentality behind this system.

Also I don't think it would be a smart idea for riot to allow for the purchase of keys or key fragments through influence points. Not because it would hurt profit, any decision making the player happy has the potential to hurt profit. But rather because, the insanely high price they would undoubtedly have to place on key fragments to keep them from damaging their to profits, which would consequently piss off players in a way less ideal than causing them to buy rp. Instead of causing players spend rp on the skin they want and then go back to playing, this could cause players to take a break from league all together as they would feel riot just sees them as a wallet ripe for harvest and not a player.

I instead suggest Riot to:
A:increase key fragment drop rates or decrease the rate at which drop rates decline
B; Add a card like loot which has a chance to drop at the end of any match and can be crafted to create a skin, or at the very least the skin shard
C: Do whatever the hell you guys want because we're all honestly you're slaves until we acquire sentience and stop playing league/ stop bringing dishonor to our bloodlines

*this comment could have no merit and I could just be a rambling fool*
