Udyr is really overdue for a gameplay update

You literally cannot play the game as Udyr vs. 50% of the roster, because there's no way to interact with any enemy champions thanks to the amount of mobility and CC in the game.

And assuming you aren't completely invalidated in champion select, you fall off to total irrelevance around 15 minutes and require your team to carry you for the remainder of the game.

He did not age into the current meta game, at all.

Udyr does need an update. But not for the reason you're saying.

He needs an update specifically because he has the kind of outdated kit that relies too much on numbers and not enough on skill expression. Like Mundo or Volibear or most other reworks.

So, as you said, when he's weak he doesn't have the mechanical versatility to beat anyone. But when he's strong he doesn't have the complexity to allow counterplay against him.

I agree, but at the same time disagree. udyr has a simple kit with a few tricks up its sleeves. Udyr's main power comes from his player. If the player knows how to play macro jungle good, udyr shines the most. mostly because his 1v1 potential against the enemy jungler is insane and he got huge objective control.

Which... is the issue. Every jungler needs tyo know how to play the map. Not just Udyr. The fact that he only has to know how to play the map, because the champion is so simple and wins in most jungle trades, is the problem.

Yes, but what i am saying is that he HEAVILY relies on it. A lot more than literally every other jungler in the game. Because he has no dashes or blinks he needs to know the macro a lot better than his opposing jungler in order to succeed.

I wish all junglers would be like him... I mean, lets not pretend these don't exist Garen Annie Ashe They require nothing but game knowledge and macro.

But, because everyone else needs to know macro just as well, the champions who don't also need mechanical skill should never be so powerful as to negate the difference. In a balanced state, they should not be seeing performance on par with more skill-reliant champions.

Of course, that's assuming the skill-reliant character is being played by someone with experience on them. A mastery 4 Annie should have no trouble against a mastery 2 Akali. But a 300k mastery Akali shouldn't just be getting bullied out by a new Annie.

Bruh mastery 4 is basically the same as mastery 2.

Mastery has nothing to do with your ability or familiarity with the champion. It has everything to do with how much you've played the champion.

The distinction between this is important because for a lot of people the amount of games played does not translate to their ability with the champion very well.

At the end of the day, the player's abilities at the game as a whole is the only reliable factor to look at when trying to guess who will win.

For example, most Vlad players get dicked on by Annie. But all it takes it knowing that she throws her hands in the air for .25 seconds and reacting to it to be able to pool her ult 80%+ of the time and scale against her in pretty much every match-up, yet a lot of them can't seem to do this being an OTP or not. And at the same time, Annie has to use her W to go in on Vlad, since its instant, yet most will try to start with Q or R.

My point was simply that someone who does know a more difficult champion should not lose regularly to someone playing an easy champion. I only used mastery because it's a solid number to look at.

Idk, Yasuo's a pretty easy champion and people tend to lose to him regularly.

And no, a champion with more options at any given time is not harder, it is easier.

Simple vs complex is probably the comparison you're looking for. But that's almost like saying Yasuo should win regularly against everyone.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Not really. I've seen many, many more Yasuo's perform poorly. Even ones that feed and flash their M7. Because he is difficult.

You do have sort of a point though. Champions that are more difficult to learn become more easy to win with, not more easy to play. They're more versatile once you know how to utilize the versatility.

But until that point, a champion who doesn't need to be learned has the advantage. That's why champions like Akali and Yasuo have abysmal win rates that are being heavily skewed downward by less experienced players, while the experienced ones dominate any enemy that isn't in the same tier or a hard counter.

Being able to macro hard because of the lack of counterplay against him is exactly what he's talking about.

He's got no tricks up his sleeve. He simply stat-checks, whether it be MS or offensive/defensive stats. Sometimes both.

Udyr is 100% braindead, he needs a rework for sure regardless of balance

I can agree with you that Udyr Definitely hasn't aged well. I like the Idea of the whole "Martial Artist Swapping Stances" playstyle, but it just doesn't fit in with all the mobility/damage in the game these days.

Also besides Spirit Guard Udyr & possibly Dragon Oracle, Udyr's Model has aged Horribly over the years.

i recently picked up udyr. He's just very good at split pushing, invading and objective control.

The fact that he has downsides is fine. #BUT. newer, more modern champions don't have downsides, they just have massively overloaded kits that have everything.

overall, i like him right now. But you don't even fuckin use his R. you just level q > e > w and that's it.

He's not very good at any of these. You're just playing at low elo, where his weaknesses don't matter, because the players don't have enough awareness or game knowledge to counter him. He's extremely bad at Diamond+.

Other meta jungles out-perform him in all areas, with less weaknesses.

Pretty much sums up what you said. I overall agree with you.
