Lets talk Mordekaiser

Morde has been left on a waiting list for balance changes because his transition to a duo lane carry was a rather abrupt change to his play-style. After playing a few games with and against him, there are a couple of things I think we should consider talking about:

  1. I like his new role, it definitely brings a new meta to the bottom lane. A melee carry that is formidable enough to survive in a marksmen lane is definitely impressive.

  2. I have found it very hard to counter him because of his movement speed buff. It gives him a little too much movement speed to both himself and his ally. He can trade a lot of damage and take very little in return, especially when combined with a support that has significant cc.

  3. I think if we can find a balance for his mobility, his damage is not that unmanageable. He hits like a truck, but if we could kite him a little easier, I think it would be balanced.

What thoughts do you all have on the juggernaut bot lane carry?

The issue is, no matter how nasty Mord gets, he can't outscale a ADC. Consider that with an infinity edge, an ADC has 250% of their AD on every attack. With moderate attack speed (and with attack speed being the most common steriod) they get around 1.5 attacks a second. With a 50% crit chance, that results in a net 175% AD ratio per attack, totaling in 250% attack damage per second applied to the target. At end game with 300 AD, you're doing a base of 750 damage a second, healing for 12-20% of that through lifesteal.

Compare that to Mord. The damage from his E is negligable end game, his damage from Q is a net total of 260 390% AD + 260% AP over 3 attacks on a four second cooldown. Considering he's unlikely to get any items other than a tri force which boost attack speed, his net attack speed hovers around .8, meaning that he does 5 attacks over 4 seconds meaning that 2/5 of his attacks are normal. Over a 5 second period he does 500% + 390% ad + 260 + ~260 = 2,097 mixed damage over 5 seconds, equating to 419 damage per second: a little more than half that of a traditional ADC. Even just the scaling statistics lean ADC: 250% AD per second compared to Mord's 178% AD per second.

Added to that, range is more than invaluable for this kind of damage dealer. Not to mention, any ADC worth their salt has mobility and possibly self-peels, which mord does not. Mord will have the advantage early on, but he doesn't compensate for the raw power each and every ADC is capable of. His tankiness is offset by the ADC's mobility and range and self-healing, his damage just doesn't scale as well. In normals he'll work vs uncoordinated teams, but he cannot replace an ADC, and unfortunately, shoving him into that role is not going to make him a better character.

Me, I miss taking mord mid or top and trying to outplay one lane opponent.

He gets something no other adc can have: tank stats. That's the niche. The ability to steamroll with a team of 5 tanks.

Niche =/= effective.

5 tanks also doesn't work.

In terms of damage, mord does significantly less at a significantly greater risk. Added to that, he can be kited, which isn't true of almost any other adc. He is tankier, but that does not equate to effectivity. At the end of the day, the reason ADC bot works is because the damage is both high and reliable. Mord's damage is lower and unreliable. There are other champs who are tanky and deal damage, and they have a place. Replacing the ADC with them ultimitely remains ineffective.

And that is the reason for adcs to stay. Riot is just trying to cross the line to see how far they can go. And this was a sucess, people used them and it worked, in a not-so-specific scenario. If any is the same as picking a hypercarry adc versus an early bully adc. We can expect this to happen again in the future, from the looks of it.

I, personally, would like to see more champions adquiring that ability to duo lane bot sucessfully. I like to believe this was like a test to see if it was possible to make more changes like this in the future. A meta where you either pick a long range marksman with your proper tanks, or pick assassins and compensate with a tanky carry. This already was seen not long ago when tanky meta was at its finest and Urgot adc was a thing.

He has 325 ms, no cc or gapcloser, and you want to be easier to kite him? Just l2p
