The one who is defending should be ranged, so he can poke and show that invade failed. If it's melee, then ward and move away.

Your team has 5 players
Lets suppose 2 are in jungle, they will need 3-4 to really guarantee that they will have the advantage
But the good part is that if they are getting the attacking advantage you get the information advantage.
If 4 are at your blue then how many opponents could possibly be at their blue? The answer is one and more than likely the guy with smite is at your blue if they are invading and more than likely the guy with smite didn't start with good dueling items anyways.
The correct procedure is to gauge the invasion force and make a call whether or not to fight, counterinvade, or both. If you sit under tower that's how you get your jungler taken offline and you get your fucking shit rek'd by cheese tactics like a noob.

also you don't sit in the bush unless you are expecting them. You should be watching the entrances to the jungle or you wont have time to react, you can use a ward for this but mind the ward cooldowns.
