Do you know what's the funniest thing about the all the recent hate Yasuo got?
It's that it took the playerbase 3 full years to realize Yasuo is a frustrating champion to deal with.
Back when Yasuo was first released, it was so obvious that this guy took overloadedness (in kit) to a whole new level and that he went against most (if not every) gaming principles that Riot deemed unhealthy. Not a game goes by without seeing Yasuo in a match, and in every match, there was probably a Malphite or Orianna to supplement him. I remembered this clearly because it was not long after worlds and it was the mass gutting of mages following the discovery of DFG that made most if not all mages severely "overpowered" resulting in cries by all players.
Yet, right after that, Riot pushed the release of Yasuo. An assassin who had the tools of an anti-assassin ie: shield and Windwall. Players outside of NA boards had no means of communication with the Reds, and they couldn't express the frustration that Yasuo brought. Even after the nerfs were rolled out, it just wasn't enough to stop him. Riot was adamant about keeping his wall and his ult enabled by knockups from other champions. Yasuo CHANGED the game in Mid lane, from then on, you had to have some form of mobility to be meta in Mid or you will have difficulties.
Yasuo players will shit on you for daring to call Yasuo frustrating and toxic. They will tell you how no one would understand the pain of Yasuo mains and how hard they play to ensure they carry games. Statistics and win rates will be also drawn upon to show you how valid the argument is and it takes a lot of understanding and skill to properly demonstrate the champion.
Moving onwards, subsequent champions (reworked and new) all had some form of overloaded kits. At the same time, Riot pushes for healthy games and simultaneously removing several aspects of a champion's ability. Yet when the update came, they gave back other forms of unhealthiness. When deemed unhealthy, removed again.
Back to Yasuo... he went on and off the radar, but nonetheless remained extremely frustrating for players and mind boggling enough to question why Riot doesn't want to change him. When Season 6 finally came on, Yasuo sprung to life again. Tank Yasuo, Mid Yasuo and all that is Yasuo in between. And after so long, then only Riot starts saying there is a possibility that Yasuo will be fixed and reworked (if any).
But it goes back to the first point. The funniest part of all it is that the playerbase 3 years later to realize how Yasuo is a problem. An assassin that had the defensive tools of a tank was already clashing with Riot's philosophy. An Assassin, focused on dishing out damage, picking out priority targets/carrying games apparently had the utilities to protect his team and himself, also set up? You had a champion that possessed the strength of two classes and that made him practically tough to balance.
And you know... the sad part is, those calling for Yasuo not to be nerfed is not at fault. It is an issue of two parties. The first party never called out the problem that Yasuo is when he was released. Everyone was selfish and played along with the Yasuo hype. Nobody cared that a large number of champions were sacrificed in the process. The large gutting of Mages post S3 worlds especially. The second party, which is you players, the one continue to support reds in designing overloaded champions and telling them what a great job they've achieved with their designs is the reason why balance at Riot is so difficult to understand.
tl;dr, the community is so messed up, they have problems in setting their balance priorities straight Every other day, we see people complain champions like Ahri for having movespeed on Q, Caitlyn for having numerous traps, yet no one, NO ONE cared to talk about Yasuo. Quite frankly, you guys made the mess.
