Certain Mages feel utterly horrible to play in Mid Lane

I think changes are good, I think the Keystone Runes are interesting, but I don't like the idea nor the concept behind them and definitely don't see why Riot absolutely had to reforge the masteries to keep things fresh in the game.

There's practically nothing in the Keystone Sorcery tree that is worth taking. Comet does not land unless you have CC, Phase Rush is useless unless you're super kite centric, Summon Aerie deals horrible damage and weak scaling. Meanwhile, Electrocute deals hefty amounts of damage but favors Assassins more so than mages unless you're a "burst" mage. Any other mages i.e.: Control, Poke, Battle that pick Electrocute lack killing potential or do not burst fast enough to be threatening.

On the other hand, you have Zed Rengar & Kayn 100-0 ing you almost every game very very easily. I simply do not understand how the new system diversifies gameplay because everything is damage and mages want a bit of everything to function decently in lane. You want mana regen to poke, you want penetration/burst for damage, you want movespeed to roam/dodge/gank better. The old masteries provided all without breaking them, except Thunderlord's Decree with its 3 spell hit interaction.

Sure, some of you will argue you have Perfect Timing to deter Assassins to jump on you, but you sacrifice so much by taking Inspiration on a mid lane mage. There's no reason to pick Battle Mages right now despite their flexible kits because the new system favors particular classes. Domination rewards all out damage and Sorcery rewards poke. Mages that are not majorly burst/poke based are stuck in a tough spot.

I know Preseasons is out not long ago, but since its reveal in March, I never had a good impression of the system. The new systems requires too much knowledge scrunching, and offers everything in the form of damage, when half of it could be allocated to penetration, regens, item cooldowns (on Sorcery) or say new mechanics like amplified damage towards shield.

The big problem for leaning mages is they got, ahem, compensated with 12 HP. Whereas AD champions got compensated with 9 AD and 9 AR. One of these helps significantly during laning. One of these is for mages. Mages suddenly having 9 less armor makes leaning v ad horrible, since iirc you took HP/Lvl yellows against APvAP, but flat AR against AD matchups.

I watched a Zed and Kayne pop a level 18 full tank Cho yesterday in about 1.5 seconds. Yes, the Zed and Kayne should be able to kill the 5k health Cho when he's alone....but in under 2 fucking seconds? The game is just a straight up damage race now, and there isn't enough armor or health in the game to slow down the 600 AD Rengars, Insta-kill Kaynes, or Dusk Blades.

I won't even touch a tank or AP until we get some serious nerfs to damage AND buffs to tank/AP itemization. Until then, I too will just pick an AD, build pure damage, and flip coins to see who dies first in the 1 second fights.

All the precision runes seem entirely for ad champions while sorcery is for both ad and ap.

We still need a Deathfire touch replacement for all of our dps mages. Scorch is a joke when talking about runes, never seen anyone take it cause its that bad compared to other options. They should take comet out and place deathfire touch again, that way at least all mages have a viable rune option thats reliable and damage oriented.

Aerie deals horrible damage and weak scaling

Implying that comet is better dmg wise. At least aerie is versatile. It can deal dmg and shield allies. Comet misses or lands, and if it lands it deals stupidly amounts of low dmg.

Off course they do. No meaningful thought was put into mages besides everyone gets more health and you're good, k. I dare say it was intentional as they want Zed, Yasuo, Talon chunking you out with 1 ability.

I got 1 shot 100-0 by Zed at level 3 vs lvl 2 under 1 secondes. His armor buff increase also make my aa poke less efficient in the early game. So not only he has 9 more ad for free but he get more resistance against my early game damage until he build hexdrinker to compasate for mr rune?

I think it'd have gone a long way if the rune system was more akin to what the Inspiration tree is - a bunch of unique utilities that actually diversify how you play the game. This twofold handles the issue of the game being snowbally and fast, with some tweaking to characters that relied heavily on certain keystones and such.

Summon Aery isn't that bad. Now every time you hit a spell, it gets a little bonus because it doesn't take that long for Aery to come back to you. Comet is really terrible I agree, but Aery is pretty nice even if you don't have a shielding ability.

I think the problem is they did the exact same thing they did last time which is give a bunch of masteries that just give you more damage, just with different ways to proc them and different ways they land. This does not change how you play the game because all it means is people will find the ones that work best for the champ they are using and never use anything else.

All of the runes should have given people something to supplement what their champ needs to do and damage does not supplement what you need to do because dealing damage is always the final goal of the game. I like runes like the one that gives you increased speed towards cc'd enemies and allies because it supplements the kind of thing a tanky support wants to be able to do.

There shouldn't be ANY damage runes at all, instead they should be runes that help you deal YOUR damage easier.

TF main. Lost 12 mr and 9 armor for 13 hp. Syndra pressing R to win was a half meme last season, it's reality now.

Could you give examples of which mages you think feel horrible to play?

Commissariat11/10/2017, 1:27:35 AM1 votes

It feels like I don't do nearly as much damage as before as Viktor.
