5.18 Still no Teemo buffs?

chide da jungler··14 votes·1,697 views

5.15 saw Teemo's ult (his core mechanic) nerfed hard and he lost 6% winrate: from 52 to 46. Since then some minor bug fixes have failed to bring the yordle back to even 50%. No one asked for the nerfs. Teemo was neither popular or overpowered and he was not seeing ANY pro play at all.

And yet, this champion has continued to linger in the nerf-dumpster. Based on Riot's balance philosophy, this makes no sense at all. WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THIS CHAMPION!?

I'm still super bitter that Phreak had the audacity to try and convince us that it was actually a buff. Even the patch notes called it a buff. I'm not sure what's worse - that they couldn't tell it was a nerf or that they thought we were stupid enough to not realize it was a massive nerf.

Gutting a champion's core design isn't something that can be compensated with peripheral "flavor" buffs (and even the passive change was a net nerf). It would be like making Kalista's aa jump only apply on every 5th auto attack, but now she jumps twice as far (with a .5 sec delay). And then calling it a buff. "Look, she now jumps twice, nevermind that it's 80% less often."

The changes were the equivalent of cutting vayne's R stealth duration in half, but letting her tumble and extra 25 distance. Good buf amirite?

Yea an alleged "net buff" And according to Phreak people just needed to try it out and adapt!

Can definitely agree on that. What Phreak said on Reddit to the highest rank Teemo player in the world IvanPavlov felt like he was saying " try and learn how to play him." Like what do you mean try to learn how to play Teemo? This guy practically mains him at a level where he competes with players who participate in the LCS and comes up with about everything you can think of when playing Teemo and you have the audacity like you said to try and learn to play a champion who he knows the ins and outs. That just kinda felt like slap in the face. I like Phreak as a caster and all but still that sounded quite disrespectful to someone from your playerbase. It's like the whole Riot knows whats best fiasco again. Where Riot won't admit they are wrong on something even tho many people even pro players tell them they are wrong and they just go full sail ahead for their plans in motion. It happened with Teemo, Veigar, Kassadin, Cassiopea, and now Mordekaiser. There just seems almost no end in sight for it really.

Don't forget Zilean, 20thcenturyfaux completely ruined him and left him to rot.

Yea I'm still scratching my head with this one. He's in a worse spot over-all. And I can quote a rioter saying they would follow up in needed.

Well, it's needed and I've bothered rioters for any kind of response and I've got nothing.

Wow there is a PBE nerf for ranged devourer right now for proc only on 4th auto. I guess no more teemo jungle for me then.

wtf riot.

Yeah it's sad and it seems Riot doesn't even care. I used to think all this "teemo is evil, teemo is satan" and the teemo hate was nothing more than a joke but now I'm not so sure.

Nobody WANTS Satan to be buffed. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

You barely see him now and when you do, he doesn't have a significant impact on the game.

Teemo needs a rework. He'll never be viable in his current state because if he was, he would just prove he's the most toxic champion in the game. He's extremely weak right now but It's because he's so unfun to play against. Riot most likely has always wanted to rework him, but due to his supermassive fan base it will most likely never happen since his shrooms, blind, and poison would probably be removed or changed a ton.

Now I won't be the one to say what's fun and not, but typically his shrooms, point-and-click blind, and poison have all combined together to make Teemo extremely toxic, yet they're also the identity of the champion. Reworking him would completely change his identity if the rework would to be successful and that would just enrage his fanbase. I respect Riot a lot for not ruining his identity and allowing his fans to enjoy the champion, but still his kit is way too unfun.

Nothing in Teemo's kit was overpowered. In gold+ it's almost impossible to keep good shroom coverage down because massively-tanky supports just walk through them and take no dmg until you have 4+ items completed (ie 35+ minutes). If you upgrade a sweeper you can clear large areas quickly. Teemo's kit could be countered by items or decision-making or teamwork, which is what Riot has been trying to add to many champions for a long time.

You could lane-counter pick him. You could have a jungler camp him easily pre-6. You can counter him with item choices. He might have been one of the best balanced champions in the game.

I'm not saying that the unfun parts of his kit aren't easy to counter, but they remain unfun nonetheless.

Nah if Teemo is toxic then so is Gnar and they can just rework Gnar then as well.

Sure Teemo isn't always fun to play against. Neither is Riven. Riven moreso according to any reddit poll done. Why are they called cancer? Well we've all been there. Mindlessly playing soloq after a long day and we get into a game against these champions without a gameplan and we get rekt. I would just end it by saying there are plenty of unfun things to play against and teemo isn't special. It's just a bad meme and a minority if players who don't want to put effort into the game and would rather something be removed from the game.

Mathbalnase1 votes

Does anyone remember when RiotRepertoir was asked to discuss the state of Teemo, agreed, and then promptly disappeared from the thread?

I do.

Teemo is kind of oppressive when he's strong. I'm quite fine with not playing against him in literally every game.
