It takes too long for me to explain my reasoning and the arms race fallacy (Screencap)
So in my most recent game, my entire team was screaming at me in the champion select screen to pick a tank. "We needed a tank, we needed a tank". No, we didn't. We had two already, and the enemy had three, and it would be stupid to try and beat them in an arms a. What we needed more were ranged champions. No, LeBlanc doesn't count, no Vayne doesn't count. I mean real, serious range. Not only that, but someone who wasn't entirely dependent on burst damage or focusing one champion, and who could peel for the rest of the team to prevent the enemy from catching them rather than relying on crap methods that might not work in the end and potentially cause one or more champions to die during every encounter. We also needed someone who doesn't focus enemy champions, but rather blasts all of them at once; no focusing required. Not just for champions but also holding back waves of minions rather than being forced to basic attack one at a time because honestly that's more effective.
Vel'koz was my answer. Vel'Koz top, at that.
Yeah, screaming was had, and they continued to scream at me the entire game for literally everything. Somehow them getting their shit wrecked in the other lanes was somehow my fault because I brought a mage to top lane, discounting the fact that we had mostly assassins and melee fighters against enemies that could displace, slow, stun, and other forms of crowd control that vaporizes exactly what they picked. I anticipated this and I went Vel'koz. Voli, Tahm, Thresh; they want to try and grab me or anyone else I'm protecting, they have only one solution, and that's to soldier forward right into the line of fire. Even if they eventually catch up to me, they still have to contend with superior firepower and the fact that I'm chipping away at their health in terms of percent damage and true damage, AND I can do this from a safe distance.
I refused to play by the game that the rest of the team wanted me to play because I knew it was a dead end. The problem is I recognize these patterns and it takes TOO LONG to try and explain my reasoning to people who will brush them off because I'm a filthy support or bronze league or whatever. If it's not one fallacy, it's another.
In the end, yes, we lost, but I ended up going miles further than the rest of the team in terms of damage and not getting killed because I recognized our own strengths and weaknesses and adjusted accordingly, even if they want to scream in all chat to report me for trolling. The problem is no one else seems to see these patterns, much less do anything to adapt to it. Just another molecule in the galaxy of fallacies that I fight on a daily basis.
