Can we disable people from first timing a champ in ranked?
Not talking about just "new champs" but any champ. Can they make it so you have to play 5 normal games with a champ before ranked?

The problem is, it may prove to be counter productive to auto-fill and the purpose of dual selecting rolls. Even if we were to implement this, we're still risking the opportunity of playing a role we either have never played, don't often play, or are inexperienced with all together. It wouldn't change much, and may actually gimp someone's opportunity to play in ranked.
A role and a champ are very different. For example, you could be an amazing jungle Lee Sin but be clueless on how to play him top. Likewise, that same Lee Sin could probably play a champ for the 1st time and do well because they know jungle routes.

But to a player that is unfamiliar with the role and that type of champion, they are two in the same. Like for example, I rarely ever play jungle unless I'm forced to, so I never actually consider champions that are more known for that role in any other circumstance. Eventually I will be auto-filled as a jungler, and will eventually need to push myself out of my comfort zone and play with champions I'm not use to. The biggest difference for me is that I've been with this game for a long time, and have played most of the champions at least a few times. But to put any new players in such a corner would not only hinder their experience, but that very mechanic may force them to play a champion not made for that role, which is a whole stack of problems on its own.
Think the other big flaw I need to point out is that the most you get out of playing the champion a few times is understanding the primitive core of the kit, but very unlikely to any major extent that allows you to use well or to its fullest. Some champions take awhile to get use to, and it's in poor taste to put everyone on the same expected rate of progress by adding a feature that not only risks stagnating that progression, but risks lowering player moral.
Not just the kit, you learn matchups, rotations, powerspikes, champs that combo well with them, etc.

Which from what I've experienced, is a great deal more likely to happen in ranked than in norms. Norms is just too... loose. The meta is literally submissive to the whims of the players, and does not make sense frequently enough to consider it to be a reliant teaching experience. There's just too many issues with that one particular mode. I see more serious bronze/silver games than I do norms, games that follow the meta long enough to hammer in both the successes and failures of any particular action or champion's nature without having you wondering why you're ganking a top bruiser Sona.
Just keep in mind that I'm not disregarding it, as it's not a bad idea at its core. But I am still in disagreement with it in terms of the potential result.
Normals is not as strict but it's more serious and competitive than normals. Plus the main issue of autofill is a whole different point that Riot (as far as I know) still hasn't commented on.
ranked should block players from picking champions they don't have mastery 5 with.
What if I have 2 accounts, one on EUNE and one on EUW, and I play a lot of Leona on the EUW one, where I can't play ranked yet, so when I get autofilled support on EUNE, I pick Leona, since I'm good with her after how much I played her on EUW. But your system suggestion wouldn't allow me to pick her since on EUNE I don't have mastery 5 with her. Wouldn't that be detrimental to me and my team?
You can't know if this one account is the only account a player has. I mostly played LeBlanc on EUW as well and the "first timed" her in ranked in EUNE and still won a great margin of games with her due to practice on the other account, and the same for Akali, tho in reverse. I play her a lot on EUNE, but when I picked her up EUW, I easily got to mastery 6 (haven't used the tokens yet as no blue essence T-T )
Point is, just because some players are bad and have just one account and first time a champ in ranked or play something they don't have mastery 5 on, doesn't mean all do.

i hope riot destroys smurfs!
and punish players that choose a champ that just came out hard! its just plain retarded to choose a champ you don't know yet -.- it ruins your ranked games :/
I don't play on EUW to smurf, but to play with some friends. I have friends with whom I play on EUNE quite a lot and friends with whom I play on EUW, so I can't just change regions. If Riot would allow my main acc to play on both servers, then sure, I wouldn't need two accounts.
Players that play something just because "it's OP" are dumb regardless if they have 1 game on the champ or 300, I mean, look at all the "Yasuo OTP" players who go 1-15 even after they have more than 100 games on the champ.
Some champs are easy enough to get the hang of during the game. Yes, you are at a disadvantage, but that that doesn't mean it's as serious as you claim it to be.

either they troll or idk what tier your in O.o
still its dumb -.-
I don't care for mastery but I want them to at least have played the champ 3 or 4 times before ranked.
