Utility scaling is holding supports back

Bard does not have utility scaling. And for a good reason, because utility scaling takes up a large part of a supports power budget. They need to be balanced for rare cases where they get a lot of AP. I feel like supports would be better off without utility scaling.

  • Lulu needs to be balanced around getting AP as a solo laner. For support Lulu that meant heavy nerfs without compensation.

  • Janna needs to be balanced around stacking a Mejai's Soulstealer. Nerfs targetted her reliability and the passive rework was intended to add more risk.

  • Sona needs to be balanced around Lich Bane. #BetterNerfSona

  • Nami gets movement speed and a stronger W from building AP. Guess what was nerfed last time? Her base movement speed and the cooldown on W.

Do you feel good about building AP on these supports? And is utility scaling good or bad for the game as a whole? Why do you think Bard does not have utility scaling?

No idea. I all was play support or champ in the support role that work best with only utility items. If i dont get a aura or some thing to help my team some way then I just dont play them. That why I ten to play tank more then mages.

You know I remember back when this support scaling crap was being added to the game and I said "Soraka/Lulu/etc are going to be seeing solo lane play and get their supporting nerfed because of it, mean while traditional supports in bot lane will be replaced by mages like Morgana/Annie." Got told I was clueless and didn't know what I was talking about.

And then it happened. Taric got nerfed because of how strong his top lane was, Soraka completely reworked because of her solo laning, and Lulu has been completely eliminated as a supporter and become a solo laner and is being balanced as such. Mean while who are some of the top support picks? Annie and Morgana who do well against Thresh/Janna/etc. Not to mention other supports like Sona who has pretty much been obliterated between her rework and constant nerfs afterwards, even though the rework itself was a rather big nerf.

So do you want to know what I think of utility scaling? It competes with the three ward limit for being the worst change that has happened to supports in the history of this game.

you can have 5-6 free wards as a support with an upgraded ward trinket though also nobody forbids you to buy ordinary wards

Janna needs to be balanced around stacking a Mejai's Soulstealer.

Since when? I've never built that on her. She needs balance around Movement speed cause that's where her strength is.

I think it was a great decision. I don't play caster supports to burst people down, I play them to support allies with abilities.
