Every single champion nowadays that gets reworked or introduced either gets massive mobility, damage mitigation, or hard CC which is difficult to avoid if you don't have any mobility, all three of which shut down Karthus very hard by making it very difficult to do his job. Karthus' opponents have a shitton of tools for outplaying him, but he doesn't have any tools for outplaying anyone.

As a Karthus player since season 1, Karthus just becomes less and less fun every season, as it feels like opponents don't even have to think about countering you anymore. He's just a massive, slow-moving ball of damage at this point, with no good CC (unless you count a 100 mana 18 sec CD slow that decays rapidly starting at 40% as CC.) And now, with the Irelia VGU, we're getting yet another champion with massive mobility and on-demand damage mitigation.

I would very much appreciate any sort of acknowledgement of his existence, but I'm not counting on it, since Karthus has a <1% play rate (gee, I wonder why.)

We talked about him in patch planning for 8.7, and while we aren't taking him on immediately in lieu of other work, we put him in a "bucket" of champions that we can pull from if we finish up some of our other planned work in the patch/get good progress on some of our stuff slated for the next large patch.

When we do work on him I can't confirm whether it'd be a buff or small reworky type stuff, but he's definitely not forgotten!

While I agree that a large part of Karthus's problems come from feature creep in League, I feel he also has some innate problems that have caused him to not age so well: for sure, he isn't doing great in a League filled with burst, hypermobile champions and tons of hard CC, but part of why he suffers so much is because he himself is a champion pushed to put himself at great risk, without really having the tools to recover. His E makes him want to get very close to his opponents in order to deal his full damage, yet if he gets that close, he'll usually die. He has a post-death passive to make up for this, but the penalty for dying right now is harsher than it's ever been, which means that it's rarely worth risking it for him.

A long time ago, Karthus's passive had this component where, if he got a kill while Death Defied was active, he'd respawn instantly at the fountain. This was removed, likely because the devs didn't feel like encouraging Karthus to die, but I think it might be time to bring back some variation of this. For example, if Karthus could access a pseudo-Guardian Angel if he got a takedown during Death Defied, reforming at his current location with a portion of his health + mana restored, and all without actually contributing a death in the process, he could become much more viable as a battle mage, and so in a manner that would also give him much better comeback potential against more aggressive opponents. Karthus I think has always been a champion who wants to get close to death, and encouraging him to go for that suicidal playstyle in a manner that didn't just give the enemy team gold and XP could go a long ways towards helping him compete in a thematic and skill-expressive way.

I think they should revert the nerf on his W that he received a while ago, where they reduced the amount he slows and made it decay faster (I believe it was). I'm no Karthus main but I do like to play him a lot, and I'd consider him probably my 3rd mid laner (next to Anivia Velkoz as my main mages) and I do agree he can use something. Also with the amount of ways to block out or avoid Karthus's ult, it just feels not nearly as strong anymore as it used to be. Though increasing its damage might be considering overkill, so maybe reduce its CD a little bit...I get that it's a global ult so it has to be a high CD but maybe lower the CD for the later levels of it at least or something.

A little op and fun idea to add could also be extending the duration of his death passive by like 2-3 seconds per kill/assist he gets in it. I'm not being completely serious on that one as it could be a bit OP but just throwing it out there as a fun little suggestion lol.

But when any champion with mobility can just jump on you and kill you it gets old.

Karthus is a great champion. Just basic.

His entire kit can fit without the block of text in irelia new passive.

And karthus has fluff words on his abilities.

Example His R: hits all enemy champions (regardless of position on the map)

Ok... that's a given with hits all enemy champions.

He got buffed in patch 8.21. He's slow, so he can't just run after you and delete you. A good buff would be to increase his AP ratios and/or increase MR reduction on his W. Giving him more mobility would be absurdly annoying and defeat the point of a global ult. Maybe we could increase his R AP ratio to 0.8(from 0.75), or Q ratio to 0.25(from 0.2). Defile does enough damage as it is. MR reduction on his W should scale with level, like the Kai'sa passive before her nerf. like 15/16.5/18/19.5/21%.

Idk he's supposed to be bad but he keeps randomly popping up as one of those low playrate high winrate champs (like Fid mid), and he still can do a lot of dmg.

You can do well with him at lower ranks probably. While his kit could be updated, balancewise, his kit has enough power that he can hold his own

Imho, Karthus is fine as is and even greatly benefitted from keystones and AP item changes.

maybe if they made it so every kill he gets with his ult reduces the cd could help

there are two way s to ult with karthus ult to kill and ult before the fight to give the team a big lead right out the gate rewarding greedy could really help
