patch 7.0

proccing ekko's passive now silences for 3 seconds

Saianna33 votes

Nah, that's mediocre buff. Lets go with mage update flow like:

proccing ekko's passive now insta kills mages.

What's the difference?

Death takes longer with the silence.

Nerfs already on the PBE across the board. Tank ekko is dead next patch

EDIT: Downvotes because i'm right. Stay classy GD

It's kinda funny that the "tank" thing really isn't what breaks him in the first place, it's being classified as a "utility assassin" that's a literal oxymoron that's the core problem.

A Miss Fortune19 votes

I agree, how Ekko builds isn't the issue, but the issue is his entire kit and design philosophy is created to negate his only weaknesses. An assassin is suppose to be feast or famine, and Ekko has so much utility that even if he's 0-30 he is still very relevant to the game.

Sir Fuzzi12 votes

I mean as far as I'm concerned, Assassins should be 'dump' types-- like how Kat is 100% damage, or how all of Ahri's crap plays to her position.

Ekko can reposition and manage fights fairly well on his own (he's an assassin); to me the big damage is in the sheer presence of his utility.

Most tanks pale in comparison to Ekko's CC. Drawup aside, few ults can cover as much ground as his sphere.

Does he need all of his CC at once?

A Miss Fortune17 votes

Mind you his utility is arguably more than just his CC. He also has 2 blinks, 1 dash, and he has an ability that basically forces you to kill him twice to actually kill him.

Handin Out Naps12 votes

Last I checked utility refers to cc and buffs. There is a reason Lulu and Karma are seen as utility mid laners, while Leblanc and Zed aren't.

Ariel the Cruel10 votes

"Utility" is generally anything that helps you and allies but doesn't necessarily kill or do damage. I'm not sure of Riot's official definition, but that is generally how I perceive it. The more broad definition allows it to encompass abilities like Anivia's wall, Bard's journey, and Urgod's Passive. The blinks and dash would be "mobility". And his psuedo-revive ult is just that.

However. Interpreting definitions doesn't really detract from the main point of this pyramid. Ekko suffers from kit overload. He has high damage, high utility, good mobility, an a few safety nets thrown in for fun. Balancing him is always going to be a nightmare because of how much he brings to the table.

Elikain8 votes

And what's wrong with having an assassin have a special play style? Literally every other assassin does the same thing - kill you faster.

Katarina blinks behind you and dumps damage. Zed shadows to you and dumps damage. Talon blinks behind you and dumps damage. Akali dashes to you and dumps damage. Fizz dashes to you and dumps damage. LeBlanc Dashes near you and dumps damage.

What interesting roster of champions we have here, don't you agree? Different champions, different stories but same, indistinguishable play styles. Because of this, the best assassin is the one champion who has current high stat checks and everyone else is eating dirt #Currently it's Zed.

We had the same problem before the Marksman update, where Lucian and Graves were literally the same champion. And the one getting picked for the ADC was the the other guy that didn't get the nerf. And after his nerf comes, the other guy comes to life.

Having assassins also have a special case where they are useful outside of dealing damage is what makes a champion interesting and fun to play + being chosen for team compositions.

Ekko's current build is the problem and he still has high base damages that don't need scaling.

Lovelle3 votes

Ekko's kit is the problem. He suffers from the same problems as Lee Sin, Gragas, Vi, and Riven.

Elikain2 votes

I'm curious? What are the problems with these champions? Outside Gragas being picked almost always in LCS and Lee on occasion, Vi and Riven have pretty much in the fog of war, nowhere to be seen. If they are strong, as you say (and i'm not disagreeing with you here), then no matter the meta they're in, they can always find success.

The part of the reason why they get forgotten is the player base succumbing to flavor of the month mentality. If a pro plays a champion, than they knew something we don't, deeming it strong or even OP.

I don't agree that Ekkos kit is the issue, Maokai offends me more than him. A tank that doesn't need damage but is full of CC and team utility, a major pain in the ass that won't die, has sustain and you can't peel him off? Count me out.

It is but ekko actually sucks at assassinating people. You're w is almost impossible to land and you will only ever kill a squishy if you stay long enough to proc your passive making him pretty inneficient at assassinating people.

You got downvoted because people just cry and don't understand the game.. There's a reason why Ekko isn't play pure assassin... unfortunately 12-15 yr olds don't understand it.

Getting sad that Riot balances around people who are still about 10 years from being completely developed mentally.

PS/TLDR - I'm calling most of the kids playing this game dumb.

Mai Waifu Irelia6 votes

But you're wrong. What did people play him before they started building tank? We've also seen mid AP ekko both in LCK and in LCS within the last week. (And huni(?) played it AP top beginning of the split if I remember right) AP ekko actually does a huge amount of damage. In fact it was only earlier today in one of the finals games we saw AP ekko and watched his ult just remove half of an adcs lifebar without anything else. Not saying his ult shouldn't be big but to say he's bad at taking out people is just literally wrong. If Faker sees AP ekko as good enough to play in competitive, maybe it's you that doesn't understand something here.

bill842 votes

But you cannot assassinate with is ult unless they are really dumb. sure it does a ton of damage, but it is damage that is decently hard to apply and does not help him with assassinations very much.

Mai Waifu Irelia6 votes

The ult was an example. He does pretty big damage with his entire kit and his w can give him shields equal to over half his health if he gets it off (usually with help of an hourglass). Yes he isn't as clear cut of a "100-0 you in -1 second" assassin such as the likes of rengar, talon and leblanc (and isn't meant to be) but AP ekko is definitely not weak. It's just being overshadowed by his tanky build counterpart and generally other utility mids who have more reliable utility (lulu, liss), however as I said AP ekko is seeing play in competitive so clearly it isn't as weak as people try make it out to be.

Rew7115 votes

What's funnier is that after the massive nerfs, kit change, and tweaks to his kit up until now have made him possibly the most balanced Assassin besides Shaco and Katarina (Katarina has had some nerfs put her in a less abusive Champion than she used to be).

I felt Ekko was flat overpowered from day one. The fact he deals bonus damage on his passive should had been a great sign that more flat damage on his Q (which procs 1 to 2 stacks of his passive) wasn't needed. Or that a 2 second stun, that is game breaking on supports, would be strong on something meant to initiate; or the fact his passive allows for him to deal more % health damage when bellow 40% health. Its not historically game breaking to have a blink (even if it has a dash) but this is one of the few AP damage abilities that deals damage to a turret. And his ultimate (God bless the nerf before it went live so that it cost 100 mana) still deals a lot, even though its one of the safest ultimates I would name on the top of my head. His ultimate stops him from being targetable as soon as its activated, and sends him to a specific location to heal him (no matter what), and deal damage to those nearby by a ton (which also gives more health to him if he does deal damage to others).

Now, is he the most game breaking Assassin? It depends on which one you are playing against in game.

The list ranges from Ekko - Fizz - Leblanc - Rengar - Zed

I think he can. I also think that Riot will be stuck in this loop of buffing and nerfing ekko, and he will still be a problem till his rework 10 years from now.

DarkRitual2 votes

His kit just does way too much for it to be balanced without obliterating his damages.

It's like they simply never learn that champions shouldn't have mobility, damage, and utility all in one kit...

SpecterVonBaren7 votes

LeeSin : I don't see any problem with that.

Mokkun9 votes

Kassadin at his prime was infinitely more obnoxious.

And for far far longer. Kass got multiple seasons in the sun.

I think Ekko would actually have to be buffed again, to reach Kass's ban level.

DropFill8 votes

Interesting though, I used to care way more about kassadin than about ekko. Ekko actually falls of as the game goes on. Kassadin was just plain stupid

i remember being down up 7 kills in lane with kassadin, and near instantly getting a double or triple kill when i finished rod of ages. Good Times (for whoever was playing kass), Good times.

Lol he reaches a statistical 50/50 after a point in which games rarely reach, heaven forbid he is actually balanced after the 40 minute mark. Now to work on the other 39 minutes and we'll be golden.

That's not top tank Ekko. Top tank ekko stays at 58% the whole game.

No in order to top Kassawin you have to get a 97% ban rate for the entirety of almost 3 seasons.

Not gonna happen when Riot is nerfing him three folds next patch. Base damages, grasp nerfs, and IBG nerfs. Tank ekko is most likely gone next patch.

But unlike him Scout is squishy af.

macromite1 votes

if they really wanted to fix the issue they would just let ekko be a tank. tanko is the only balancable form of ekko, and so long as riot refuses to understand that ekko will always remain in a state of unusable or best in class, with no inbetween.
