Aatrox really needs tenacity to be able to teamfight.

So why not put it on his ult? For a champion so reliant on nonstop autoing, Aatrox has remarkably few tools to to keep himself from being CC locked whenever he jumps into teamfights. Therefore, I propose tenacity on his ulti that he gains based on the # of enemy champions hit for the duration of his ulti. I don't know what the numbers would be exactly; We could try 10/12.5/15% per champion hit, or we could use a nonlinear system of some kind. All I know is that Aatrox simply can't go in if he has any reasonable expectation of being CC locked since he's so squishy.

The Aatrox circlejerk is getting old. He is in need a rework and doesn't fulfill his thematic very well but he is also a monstrously unfun to play against drain tank that does NOT need more in his kit. He needs a rework to further his identity, not hollow additions to his kit.

Yeah he is in need of a rework, a proper rework. Any champion can be 'unfun', I don't see how a champion who does everything worse than other champions can be oppressive though. 'Boring'? Sure, he fights then sustains if he cans and then tries to fight again. That's what a lot of champions do. But he can't stick to you, can't burst you 100-0 without you reacting, can't sustain from 50% - 100% without lifesteal items or like 2 full waves of minions.

You're wrong about "Not need[ing] more in his kit", in truth he ACTUALLY does need MORE in order to function properly. But the best way to implement this is with a rework though, straight up adding power in his non-functioning kit basically will still allow him to maintain a kit and a half and yes this may lead to balancing problems.

Right now, he's not in a good spot. Meddler even commented on this and stated that he is not in a good spot, he might receive some changes before his rework sometime down the line but nothing is certain.

@OP; Aatrox needs a lot of things but just giving him things you want him to have doesn't make it a 'need'. He 'could' do well with tenacity but then his kit is going to have to balanced with tenacity in mind, and we know all know that one champion who we 'better nerf' because she her tenacity just could not balanced properly. Just wait and see what will happen, put some faith into Riot that they know where to take Aatrox next.

Playing against his lane feels boring. He won't burst you donw, but he just outsustains you and you can't duel him. Mundo and Aatrox are similarly boring and linear to play against.

Sounds like a perfect situation for someone like Nasus or Singed then. But honestly, if you have any decent dueler you can make things more fun by doing early fights and going for the all ins when he doesn't expect it.

But until then, we can still try healthy buffs.

Shyvana A lot of AA champions don't have tools to deal with perma-cc

DunkinNoobs2 votes

At least Shyvana is tanky. Aatrox needs to nonstop auto to keep from dying but he's so easily CC locked that he can't even do that.

She is tanky but has no CC and no gap closer. I'd say it's about even in that sense. Her advantage that keeps her viable but him not, is her insane jungle clear. That is about it.

I mean, if you don't count her ult for some reason. Sure, it may not be particularly great at either of those things but it is most certainly a gap closer and CC.

But yes, her insane jungle clear allows her to carve out a home away from top lane so she can actually abuse her strengths. I have mastery 7 on Shyvana on my main, so believe me, I know her as well as basically anyone. I'd also argue that Shyvana is a slightly better teamfighter due to the higher in-fight mobility she has from her W and her higher tank busting power from her E.

Aatrox by comparison really doesn't have the damage to justify his lack of mobility and staying power, or vice versa. He's too easily countered by armor stacking, his healing is too easy to shut down by CC locking him, and he's too easy to run away from. This champ simply needs more tools to do his job. And it honestly wouldn't take much. This change plus some very minor base stats buffs could very easily turn Aatrox from meh into top tier overnight.

And the amount of grievious lifesteal makes it that Aatrox is in a state where it's nearly impossible for him to be OP unless his early game becomes too strong again.

Melledoneus3 votes

I think a bigger knock-up area on his Q would be much more preferred. It's the easiest AoE in the game to dodge.

And it's not very rewarding when you land it and the cost is pretty massive too.

Yes, lets make a stat check champ even more stat checky.

fun aatrox tip - Stop using the heal on his W and use the damage

fun aatrox tip - Stop using the heal on his W and use the damage

^This. I used to top lane Aatrox, a long, long time ago and he suddenly becomes a hell of a lot better of a laner when you can properly choose between the damage or healing. I generally used the damage on opponents until I'm <50% for the increased healing effect. Not to mention that the damage portion of Aatrox's W hits like a motherfucker.

Melledoneus1 votes

You can also cancel the wind-down animation of his Q by having an empowered auto ready for instant damage.

That's what happens if you turn that shit long enough.

Real base stats, real gap closer, and deal way to hurt tanks first. Then we can worry about new things.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

what about better base stats so a fucking cho'gath who's not ahead can't 1v1 me with 150 MR?

Sire Hippington1 votes

So do most rather imobile melees. Imo Juggernaurs shouls get tenacity and/or slow reduce aswell, they already are easy to kite because the lack range and mobillity, so it would be nice if they atleast were harder to peel against.

Rakvir1 votes

Yeah, in a dream world at this point in time, I'd rather play AP bruiser Aatrox than try to force the 'classic' vision.

item 3115 item 3124 item 3146 item 3065 item 3083 and either item 3143 oritem 3742 , situation depending.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

I've told myself that I would try that, and I realized now I still haven't tried that.

WoonStruck1 votes

Aatrox really needs a rework before he gets touched.

Veltox1 votes

Riot said they will look at him preseason 7 before the diver update but don't expect anything fancy until he is reworked.
