So ive had this thought about Azir for a long time...

Azir has the best auto attack animation in the game. At similar speeds, azirs attack will always hit first because the animation is so FAST; this makes it very, very good for last hitting, and sets up a potential "warrior king" playstyle. That potential playstyle is, however, stymied by the fact azir is pigeonholed into only having one playstyle.

Can we make it so Azirs Q and E dont require sand soldiers, and have a different effect without them?

Q: Conquering sands: Azirs next basic attack slows an enemy by 25% and deals an additional 0.3/0.4/0.5/0.6/0.7 AP as bonus magical damage E: Shifting sands: Azir dashes to a target location.

I have one singular question

WHY ARE WE MAKING AZIR MORE OVERLOADED

Its not. o-o these would only happen when he has no soldiers out. he loses the utility, and in the case of Q, only has one damaging ability at all.

You are giving him an extra 2 abilities to use whenever he wants, no soldiers needed. that is a horrendous idea for a champion that already has a large number of ways to react in a situation.

Not an extra 2; its the same ability for the most part, and it enables a different playstyle. Because, ya know, azir is extremely one dimensional and has no playstyle variation because he has ONE ability outside his ultimate that is standalone.

Id say creating a champion with one ability and two augments for that ability is worse design. All these ideas do is rectify that problem; if you play backline general azir you will always have a soldier up. You will hardly ever use the non soldier effects, and if you do, it wont be very effective because the most youl EVER use the standalone Q for is to secure a kill, whereas a frontline warrior king azir would be using the Q and E along with lichbane as a main damage source.

If you want to think azir doesnt need changes, be my guest. Fact remains that without rylais hes bad, and his entire concept isnt fun for a lot of people when hes not extremely overpowered.

Azir is not one dimensional, he's just a champ that revolves around one thing- soldiers. It's just like Ori and syndra. Even though his soldiers are all he does, he has endless possibilities on what you can do with them.

Are you going to compensate by making the CD on the soldiers higher?

Why compensate at all? He has one damaging ability - his Q - with these ideas, and that Q is even an auto attack modifier (meaning lichbane would be core on this potential playstyle). He loses most of his utility without his soldiers, which is intended and is the balancing mechanic at work.

Because he was designed to have his soldiers up all the time (or close to it if you manage them correctly) by adding extra abilities without changing his soldiers it will make him no worry about screw ups. You put a bad soldier, no problem i still have other abilities to do damage.

How the hell would giving Azir even more utility fix him? Isnt that the reason the had to gutter him in the first place?

Its not "more" Its less utility when he has no soldiers out, with the slow remaining on Q because it would be the only damage ability.

You are giving him extra abilities to use when he has no soldiers up without any compensaion. How the hell can you say that you aren't giving him more utility? You are literally adding more utility and damage without removing anything?

No, the idea is to give him a kit. Azir will ALWAYS have soldiers up. the cooldown is shorter than the duration after 15% CDR. If you play him like that, then you wont bother with these other abilities, which by and far, are MUCH weaker than the soldiers which do AoE damage and proc rylais. Shrug you could change the idea of the E from a short range dash to a shield; that would be perfectly fine.

How about no?
