Why are "boosted" teammates in my games? How are they even the same rank?

coreym11··11 votes·8,921 views

It's almost insulting to me that I am the same rank as some of these players and a huge waste of my time. The game I am talking about in the end we won and was about 50 minutes rather than 25-30, let me explain.

I am playing veigar mid. In the beginning of the match I have a pretty easy lane and so does our riven beating her top lane by 3 kills and a good amount of cs, I have control over my midlaner and have a kill above her and zoned her from her cs, and our lee has gotten some kills on the mastery yi who is feeding unintentionally. This looks like a pretty easy game, but the bot lane has a 0/2 sona and 0/6 vayne and the enemy cait has 5 kills. That is bad but since everyone else is doing fine it is carry able.

What this really is about, after laning phase where I actually see Sona and Vayne play I realize they don't have much mechanical skill or decision making what so ever. When Vayne fights master yi she stands there tanking his autos and both sona and vayne are caught out of position plenty of times taking questionable pathing and have extremely poor judgement.

We got to the point in the game where we got 1 inhibitor the other alive with no tower and bot tower was the only one standing, and we had nearly all our towers and baron buff. The game should have ended right there but Lee Sin and riven had different ideas, riven wanted to take the inhibitor while lee sin wanted to push bot lane. Keep in mind I have a 1000 ap and 40% cdr at this time in the game. The safer easier play is to take bot tower so I just follow lee and tell everyone to group with me. Riven goes in and 1v5's and Sona and vayne start following her. I ditch lee sin who proceeds to tower dive the fed caitlyn and the ahri and dies and starts pinging me and calls me stupid.

Bunch of other bs happens team wont group with me and eventually I get to the point where at this point i'm about done. Sona leaves the group of vayne, me, and riven and goes off to 1v1 master yi top lane obviously loses. We have baron buff and elder dragon so I say that since sona and lee sin are never grouping anyways lets just push mid. Lee sin respawns and sona eventually does too but sona just roams fighting jungle camps at our top side while we are trying to siege the nexus. I chunk cait kill yi and we finally won.

How are people like this the same rank as me? In a game where everyone is my level of competence we would win almost every game in silver easily. Why are people who are this unskilled in silver? It's really dragging me down.

The worst part is, these players especially sona and vayne are considered my equals according to ranked. How? In a system thats supposed to judge a player. Such a huge disparity.

You are describing the skill level of a silver player.

You are a silver player.

What is the problem?

No way, its easy to say that as a commentor on the boards. It's not like my skill level is to carry 3-4 dead weight players consistently but it is not silver rank. How can a system that punishes players equally if they lose be a true indicator of skill? Statistics "you are common factor in everyone of your games" blah but bad teammates could very well be a players issue and they could be pretty good but not good enough to solo carry a game (not saying its my own problem). This kind of mindset (hehe just solo carry a game ez your bad if you can't) is such a toxic mindset this community has.

Tbh, this is kind of off topic but going along with statistics, Ryze has a 45% winrate. This would mean that ryze probably needs some buffs. BUT, in the hands of pros he is really good and would be op if he is buffed.

How can statistics like "common factor" and "winrate" actually mean anything in scenarios like these?

Because if you have the capacity to be better than silver you will be hard carrying your games consistently and out performing your lane opponent on a consistent basis.

You can’t win every match and you will not always get good players but if you are able to perform at a level above silver then your impact game over game will see you climb.

At the current time your ingame performance shows that you struggle to win lane against your opponent who is also a silver player meaning you do not deserve to climb but remain at your current rank.

The toxic part of this community is people like yourself who instead of try to self improve they externalize there problems like come on dude you play lethality jinx mid with comet consistently , you are not goIng to climb playing like that.

Lol I get critized for that too but I literally threw the crap out of the game, that was literally entirely my bad. Look at all the other good games though rather than just my flaws. I'm not saying I am diamond, but I am at least gold 5. There are gold players who enter my game that have such poor judgement I feel insulted that I am silver.

Btw do you wanna duo with me? lol

I hate to break it to you, but you're never gonna hit gold 5.

Define "boosted".

Because the "bad players" could be very good on their champs but have terrible macro, etc. It's possible to climb, to a point, using a single thing you are very good at without improving anything else.

coreym112 votes

I put the "" around boosted because it isn't that they are boosted, they are just a higher rank than their actual skill level displayed is.

Depends on the rank. If someone in silver posts this then idk, but when I'm playing in gold 1 and I get people who don't understand how cleanse doesn't work on malz ult I become skeptical of their rank. When I check their match history and they've been silver the last 3 seasons and then have this huge win rate on a champ they don't play, I know they got a boost and think they belong in this elo.

Or they're on a smurf account trying to get fresh MMR to sneak past their current rank on their main. (Gold 2 main here :3)

No I mean like someone plays ADC since the season started and then has this huge winstreak on Riven. Then they go back to playing ADC and on a huge loss streak.

Ah, totally.

Then why are you asking this question? You know how they got in your games: they bought a boost or an account.

Because it's so easy to detect and yet Riot hasn't banned them yet. Riot's MMR system will make it so hard to climb but if you're on a 7 loss streak it should just drop you a rank or flag your account.

im kindof convinced that riots matchmaking forces to get you close to 50% winrate and rubber banding between win and lose streaks.

if it didnt, then people would probably climb or drop extremely fast to the mmr they belong at the start of the season, and a lot of them would lose interest in the game, as their climb suddenly hits a wall or they just drop down into the bottom of the ladder 30 losses in a row. progress would be much slower from there, instead of having people slowly climb or fall with occational win streaks over the course of month of a season.

but when terrible players get occationally carried higher than theyre supposed to be before they drop back down it makes them feel good and want to play more, and when players below their own mmr take longer to climb than they should while theyre still slowly climbing it keeps them hooked for month.

imo the system is just designed to keep people interested to play their game for a longer time over the season to keep the player count up.

This is easily disproven by smurfs. Smurfs get crazy winrates but never get sabotaged by strings of unwinnable matches. RatIRL even had an account where he went 90+W-0L until he dropped a match in high Diamond MMR this season. If matchmaking was truely trying to make an unwinnable match it would have disconnected all 4 of his teammates at that point

Its just the nature of low ELO that players are very inconsistent. The person feeding in your game right now could go 12/0 next game

those smurphs tend to play like 10 to 15 divisions below their own mmr and switch accounts or stop playing before they get close to their own mmr. like master/grandmaster usually only play to around plat, because there it starts to slow down.

what im talking about is for example someone climbing through gold, when hes a plat 1 quality player.

the mmr system is not supposed to prevent you from climbing, but im convinced its supposed to turn a 2 week climb or fall into 2 month to keep the players hooked on the game.

RatIRL often duos with something like a Lulu and 2v5 every game. His team mates literally can't throw the game, even if they wanted to. Most of us are solo and even if we find a duo, it's hard to find a decent one. RatIRL's duo always knows what he needs to do. It's almost as if they planned, practiced and perfected their strategy.

Were they being flamed?

People have bad games, and if you start flaming them for losing lane, then that typically just makes them play worse.

coreym111 votes

No, I didn't flame them at all

I had a gold 2 hecarim go 0/9 in a silver ranked game.

Some outliers ruin games but don’t give up. Fight thru the bullshit, the most games you will ever have that are completely out of your control are like 3 in a row. Plat is the same shit, it’s like this in every rank that a boosted animal plays the game.

Isnt this normal in silver elo? I dont think the elo your at is where youll find competent players, with no offense to you, you might be higher skill wise but stuck in the elo

Tuition Fee2 votes

Skill level in silver is really varied. Either your teammates are smurfs, average players, or bad players. The same goes for the enemy team. So if your average teammates are against smurfs, you're fucked. If you have smurfs against average players, they're fucked. It's really a coinflip.

Your way of thinking is what's keeping you hardstuck in silver for the 4th season in a row even after 500+ games this season alone. Yes, those players are your equals, they're just as hardstuck as you. You just have to get better, then your teammates will become better as well.

coreym111 votes

I started in season 5 and took a break for like 2 seasons. How could i be hardstuck for 4 seasons? Iv'e know about the game and have been playing for 4 seasons. I never started playing ranked till season 6 and 7 and there was a long period of inactivity between then and now.

Blyr1 votes

I guarantee you that if I looked at this game the reason it lasted so long was because of your macro decisions. I can also guarantee you are at the rank you deserve to be.

Nobody who deserves gold stays silver after 500 games. It just doesn't work like that.
