What purpose is Mundo useful for?

Strawberrycocoa··1 votes·736 views

I love Dr. Mundo as a goofy character, but I only play him infrequently because when I do play him I have trouble figuring out how exactly I'm to be useful. The only purpose I can see to him is to turn on the fire jump into enemy clusters and scare them into focusing me while my allies cleanup, but he has nothing that really makes people focus him that I can see. He's ignorable and just kind of an obstructive nuisance at best.

I figure I'm probably wrong somehow. Any tips?

Sunfire cape plus your fire does real damage. Also, your Q does percent health damage, so your Q does real damage. Other than that, you just soak up damage, throwing Q's and letting sunfire and your fire do damage. You can also build Frozen Heart and Locket of the Iron Solari to buff your team to make you feel more useful. Those wouldn't be bad on him.

Before the Cinderhulk nerf, I played Mundo top with smite and it was SUPER fun.

What do you do to survive lane phase? My Mundo game yesterday I fed three kills to Fiora and she got 40 CS ahead of me just from making it impossible for me to farm. The only saving grace I had was teamfights and grabbing some kills and assists by being a big firey nuisance, but Lane Phase was completely horrid to deal with against a strong early-damage champion.

Sit under your tower and last hit with Q's. It refunds all your health when you kill a minion, so you can farm for days. Never go into a fight until you're at level 6. By playing safe and last hitting with you (occasionally poking the opposing laner with Q), you should end up with a really high CS.

If you get a big wave under your tower, pop your fire and your AD steroid and clear them all out. If they harass you a bit, then go back to the tower and Q to last hit minions and your passive will restore your health.

That's the life of Dr. Mundo to be honest. Mundo is super weak, even squishy, early on, but his late game tankiness is very powerful.

Against champions with very high damage early on, such as Fiora, Mundo has a really rough time.

Generally, you need to stay back and try to last hit with your cleavers at your turret (freeze it, obviously) when up against a tough match up like that. Farm up so you can rush your sunfire cape (a Randuin's might work better against Fiora though). This is probably also part of the reason Mundo isn't faring so well, come to think of it. His early game is just so weak.

Mundo is some what weak early game. Though you get a lot more survivability once you hit 6. Try using your cleavers for last hitting hard to hit minions when your getting zoned away from CS. This function has actually been buffed recently. But over all, play safe and whether the storm.

Mundo's main purpose in a team fight is to dive the backline and stick to the enemy carry like glue. His AD steroid, cleavers, fire, and the sunfire he should have built add up over time to make his sustained damage very strong.

That said, he does seem to be a little weak right now. It might be because Mundo is a super tank in the sense that he is virtually unkillable, but he doesn't bring any CC save his cleavers. He can still withstand more punishment than any tank save probably Sion, but he just brings less to a team.

I wouldn't say "weak" so much as he doesn't add anything to teamfights, hence your last statement about having no significant CC. Lack of gap-closers and a skill-shot slow also means that mobile adcs/core targets can render him nearly irrelevant.

None. He's a tank with only once cc, which also happens to be single target. He has no hard cc either. He gets screwed over hard by %HP damage, which is all over the place these days. He also does minimal damage and his entire purpose is to annoy the enemy team, so people just ignore him.

I regret buying him, I wish I could refund him because it angers me when I roll him in ARAM.

He has higher average damage dealt than most of his peers in top lane though.

He also happens to have the highest average damage taken and some of the least amount of deaths.

The best way to understand his role in my opinion is to understand that he is not a tank, he is a Fighter that likes to build full tank.

With that said, the whole

Thing is thinking like a Tank player. Mundo's job is to be a scary threat and a secondary damage source on your team. Focus less on defending your allies and more on picking someone out of position and charging at them nonstop because you should have the Tankiness and Tenacity to be virtually unstoppable.

So less Paladin and more Blood Knight, then?

Basically.

There's good feedback in the thread already. Going to add to it.

He has one of the fastest jungle clears in the game with cinderhulk+ W max.

He is an amazing splitpusher since he can clear waves of minions so quickly with his W + sunfire cape. Hard for the enemy to do anything about him since he's super tanky, has a low cooldown ult which heals him for a ton while making him run fast, has a spammable slow on his Q.

He is unkillable lategame. Very good for facetanking tower aggro (Plus the enemy team) while your carries and assassins dive. He's very useful in poke comps, since he can poke/peel with his Q, but also take (and heal off) tower aggro if you don't want to wait for the next wave to poke down a tower.

He is super tanky, so good for tanking dumb objectives (Baron/Dragon) that would be doing a lot of damage to your teammates. Think two-manning baron with your kalista ADC at 20 mins tanky.

He is good for peeling tanks. Turn on your W, throw cleavers at the tankline trying to get past your frontline to hold them in place. Your cleaver does %hp damage, which does a lot to that 5k HP volibear trying to run at your adc.

So he's useful, but not in every team comp. I wouldn't blindly pick him every game and expect to win since there are very specific strategies that his kit works well with.

My $0.02.

essentially his job is to be a threat to the enemy carries so the enemy team has to focus the tank while your team just murders them

thats what old style tanks were for ... thats how they were meant to work, thats who mundo is

How bad of an idea is ad attack speed mundo? His E at rank 1 is stronger than tryndamere's q at rank 5 (just the ad). With bork and mundo's cleavers you have a ton of % hp damage and you could probably still buy a few tank items

He is best played into teams that have lots of AP or true damage since he has tons of health and regen. Cinderhulk top Mundo never dies late game, so you can dive straight to the carries and their team HAS to focus you with their CC. That frees up your carries to burn them down. I have played games where I could chase their entire team back into their base. Lots of fun.
