No item punishes an entire class of champions as hard as adaptive helm punishes sustain mages

item 3036 ? It doesn't punish tanks for being tanks, only for building excessively tanky so they don't become completely unkillable. I mean Sion might be punished by it even without building super tanky because of natural HP gains but that's about it.

item 3033 ? Nope because item 3065 exists and can mitigate a lot of grievous wounds effects.

item 3194 Counters everything and the only things sustain and DoT mages can do in the game effectively with only 1 item purchase and since it's % based it will scale up and mitigate even more damage regardless of how much AP you stack as a mage. It is essentially a 1 item wonder if the enemy team has a Malzahar, Ryze, Cassiopeia, Kassadin, Taliyah etc because it mitigates so much damage by itself without the need for further MR.

item 3075 counters AA-reliant champions item 3022 counters all immobile champions item 3026 counters assassins as AD champions item 3157 counters assassins as AP champions item 3035 and its variants counter all things tank item 3071 counters all things tank

There are a several more I could keep going with, but I think you see the point.

What about Thornmail? It punishes Adcs for using their main damage, hurts them, and requires two items to fully counter (MR and lifesteal to fully counter the damage, but it has grevious wounds to mitigate lifesteal as well)

Thornmail is a pretty expensive item and it's damage reduction can easily be countered by a last whisper purchase, forcing them to stack higher armor values. Grievous wounds don't hurt an ADC's ability to do what they are designed to do and that's damage, it only takes away their ability to drain tank and overly sustain without having to worry about positioning. Thornmails damage requires armor stacking because it only has 25 base damage on autos which is a joke.

Thornmail is about the same cost as the item you're complaining about. It is only 100 gold more expensive.

It still has 65% of the armor value if they have LW (and they can get the same effects from just a bramble vest, which is cheaper too!)

Thornmail forces an adc to choose between doing damage and their own health, or buying two items to completely negate it. I would say that it is a solid counter to adcs, in the same way that adaptive is a solid counter to dps mages.

And yet Malzahar still maintains a 54-55% win rate.

And yet Aurelion Sol still has a 55% winrate and has been there forever but no one here will argue that he can't be countered by item purchases or champion select so what is your point? People are just going to eternally whine about Malzahar whenever he is even semi viable and use it as an excuse to call him OP because they hate his ult and are too oblivious to itemize around him.

Just like you eternally whining about tank items when they're even semi viable.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7yCZA2dzhA 35:19 phreak talks about the buffs to adaptive helm. Granted his opinion probably means more than mine, he actually shows the stats as to that adaptive helm isn't that great.

Yo but can we talk about how hard that item fucks Syndra's ult?

How doesn't dominik's regard punish tanks for being tanks? It increases damage against them when they try to stack health, and this buff stacks with critical hits by the way, something most marksmen build regularly; and still negates a large chunk of their armor against all the wielder's physical attacks. Mortal reminder's grievous wounds apply for 5 seconds ontop of any physical damage, cutting all of their healing by 40%, spirit visage only amplifies healing effects by 30%; so it's still countering them, just not as much. However it's risky to build visage against an all AD team in the first place, which is still fairly common thanks to the meta.

Read the description on adaptive helm, the 20% damage reduction only applies to DOT effects, and the repeated spells in a short time frame to counter spam casting; meaning it's good against grinders like brand or ryze, but not really against someone who winds up such as xerath or nidalee.
