Why not adc&supp at midlane?

originally when a meta was created, it was preferably that 2 players (also known as ADC&support in current meta) be sent to either mid or bot lane for dragon control but casters go mid cuz ADC, which cant burst enemies quickly enough before they run to safety of turrets, is not optimized to roam from mid, and ADCs have less leisure to roam than any other roles as they scale on gold heavily. With the recent rift herald buff update though, it is very disadvantageous to have the duo be only able to have impact on dragon control but have zero imfluence on rift herald control.

Not only would sending ADC&supp to midlane would use heavily increase roaming potential of supports like Leona Alistar, but also the duo can swiftly join the jungler for either rift herald or dragon from that lane.

My understanding of the evolution of the lane meta is that mid lane goes to the often relatively squishy mage/assassin because it's the shortest lane, giving them the most freedom to gtfo if things get hairy. From there there's a jungler, and two lanes left for 3 people, and it's because of dragon that bot lane ends up being the duo lane.

As it currently stands, I would still consider dragon to be higher priority to control than rift herald.

In the not super distant future, rift heralds buff will be most effective on a solo laner, and will be a one off prize, as opposed to dragon where 2 dragons before laning phase is over is not unrealistic. That still pushes the duo lane bot, and the solo lane top.

I could maybe see in an organised game bot lane swapping to top briefly and pushing for herald (probably giving buff to mid laner), and then going back bot, but that require more coordination than I'd expect out of dynamic queue so I doubt there will be big shifts in lane metas. Feel free to get a 5 man together and experiment though, maybe the mid lane control could be viable, but I doubt it.

Another thought is that the gank potential of a meta midlaner is probably somewhat higher than a typically aa based adc, so having a mage/assassin in a position to roam anywhere is more useful than the potential for an adc to roam. (Supports can and often do already roam from bot lane, sometimes all the way to top.)

that answered my question with satisfaction, thx

Because if you vs a mage midlane then whats the point? and it's easier to get 4man ganked in mid.

i dont see why being 2vs1 against a mage in lane is disadvantageous, but I suppose u r right on that 4-man gank

Because he can just play safe and waveclear then you are not really doing much to mid like if you vs aniv for example.

Would depend on the two champs being played mid. Some mages wouldn't do so well against a duo mid. It would also give more freedom to contest objectives as the duo lane.

Would be an interesting meta shift anyway, instead of seeing adc bot lane every game. Sometimes with adcs top, mid, and jungle to boot.

Though I think a better meta shift would be to just have an adc elsewhere besides bot if possivle (so quinn / varus mid, graves top / jungle, etc) and have another mage bot lane (or something along those lines.)

It would have to come from the pro scene if you want any such strat to get traction. If the meta sheep don't take from the best, you basically won't get anyone on board.

And then, who would you send Bot lane? Since it would be dangerous to place a squishy in the long lane, it would have to essentially have to be a top lane champ who would fill that vacancy.

While i cant say much on lane side of things I'm very sure that we will see more teleport (maybe 3 per side or more) and maybe even extra smites being taken. If you think about it, why would you even need to switch lanes if you can just take TP and go anywhere at the drop of a hat?

  1. A lot of mid laners are harder to zone out of farming in a 2v1.
  2. It's easier to get ganked and/or roamed to in midlane.
  3. A lot of mid laners are better roamers and roaming from midlane is the most game changing roaming since you can roam to either other lane.

Because you don't want your mage to be in a long lane and mages are better at ganking than a support or RAD
