what were ADCs like early on in league?

since I started playing around the start of s4( right after jinx release) I think I've only ever seen marksmen as being trash or overpowered, with maybe one point in time where I actually saw a lot of players content with them

so I'm just wondering if any older players can tell me how they compare now to how they were s1 through 3 in terms of overall strength and player sentiment towards them

Early on in league any role was capable of snowballing and carrying a game.

It's all been the same, it's not that adcs are ever in a good or bad place. It's more so about how people playt he game. When jungler sdtarted ganking bot lane level 2 because jungling was easy adcs got considered weak because they couldnt do anything about it. when jungling becomes harder , or control mages ge tplayed mid instead of assassins adc's feel strong again. adc power hasnt changed, its just the meta changing over and over. - been playing since before season 1 ,rest in peace lifesteal version of malady.

Apparently they played in mid.

It's not that they played mid, its that people played champions in different lanes trying to see where they worked best before season 1 / season 1 worlds. where the meta that we have now slowly evolved around that time.

the "ashe mid" meme wasnt actually all that popular.

In S3 it was average. ADC starts hitting a tank, tanks were Mundo, Renekton, Shyvana. And it took a pretty long time to take them down. ADCs hit other squishy champions and it still took longer to take them down. ADCs were weaker like 85% of what they are now? A lot of other roles were stronger though and the game didn't rely so heavily on a few kills early.
