Ahri is up to 54% WR with 20% playrate. Can we have a reasonable discussion yet?

Every single thread about this is the exact same. Ahri players insist she's completely fine and bombard the thread and anyone who disagrees with downvotes. This is exactly like when Riot gave Sona that metric shit ton of buffs on one patch 'mini-rework' and Sona mains claimed she was completely fine when she was completely broken. I'm not saying Ahri is at that level of OP, but she needs some minor tuning.

But we can't even have a discussion about it because of the people who play Ahri absolute refuse to compromise. If a champion like Zed had similar numbers, the boards would be going completely apeshit. Just saying.

the difference is Ahri isn't going to 100/0 you in a half a second with no skill and no outplay. like Talon

if u don't get hit by her charm, you probably aren't goign to die unless she already got crazy fed or really outplayed you with a crazy flash ulti orb redirect.

you don't need to specifically itemize against her like you do buying item 3157 into AD champs like Zed.

any AP can still build what they want... and any AD can still pick which ones of their THREE stupid items of item 3156 item 3814 oritem 3139 they want to build to counter her.

i really don't see her as an issue.

i don't see her picked high and i dont EVER see her banned.

does she have a high winrate? yes she does... but is ANYONE willing to BAN her .. NO.

Let's stop generalizing already because there are quite a few of us who know she's too strong and want changes...

But we can't even have a discussion about it because of the people who play Ahri absolute refuse to compromise.

For over 2 fucking years I've screamed at Riot to get rid of that retarded Q speed they shoved into her kit just so she could still be an LCS pick. What I want is the Charm amp that was wrongfully taken, but if it doesn't come back, as long as the Q speed is gone, fuck it, I'll live.

Edit: It's not close to 2 and a half years yet, I could've sworn 5.2 came out in January. Had to check to be sure.

lmao you're an idiot. give her charm more power than it already has? it feels like an eternity that you're charmed. and she can blow you up instantly afterwards. there's a reason why they removed the DFG aspect to her charm and that's because it was BROKEN AS FUCK. they removed DFG from the game because it was unhealthy. so why the hell should Ahri be special in keeping that in her kit?

Keevalroy3 votes

It was broken back then because it had amplified damage which stacked with DFG's amp. Guess what? DFG hasn't been in the game for quite some time, so don't treat this like the sky is falling. And she should keep it because it's her fucking theme to be a succubus, so why should she not have a Kiss of Death, especially when the replacement was Kenyan sprints when she tosses an orb?? It doesn't make an iota of sense.

Edit: I feel like I should reiterate my first point. If it doesn't come back, I can deal with it as long as the Q speed is gone.

NvestmentPlanker1 votes

she got the charm amp damage AFTER DFG was removed from the game as compensation. considering she has ZERO problem blowing people up that she charms, she doesn't need that amp damage back.

Are you an idiot or just didn't play back then? She got the amp in patch 3.13, and lost it in 5.2, the same patch DFG was removed.

I'll honest. I am wrong. I started playing around patch 4.20. You are right with everything you've said. Apologies

You say generalzing which would implies "in general" and the fact of the matter is that in general, most ahri mains do think she's fine. In a year of seeing ahri threads rarely on the boards, I have seen maybe 2 ahri players that thought she was too strong. Like he said in his post, nearly every thread against Ahri is flooded with people claiming she's fine.

dunder kill5 votes

Sure seems like it.

I made a reasonable thread yesterday that was actually sort of defending her and every single Ahri player told me she was fine and I was wrong. One of them even called me a whiny idiot.

I feel like...I'll go out on a limb and say half of the people who don't want the Q speed gone need the safety net of mobility creep to stay alive in lane because they're awful and can't hit skillshots, so they depend on the Q to keep themselves from feeding. That's why I've been pushing for a revert, and recently, a partial revert of the season 5 rework to return some amount of skill in playing her.

Without the Q speed, you'll be punished for spamming, vulnerable pre-6 again, and her win rate will drop from the bad players who can currently get by with spamming abilities and running around like an idiot not having their extra, unnecessary speed - I guarantee it. Meanwhile, the good, or at least practiced Ahris won't be affected as much. I won't say she won't need changed again, but if she's in the "too weak" category, I'd think only SLIGHT damage buffs would be enough.

Dessem4 votes

I just hate the "Ahri isn't strong, everyone else is just weak" argument used, lol. It's like a permabanned toxic player complaining everyone made them toxic.

Ahri is certainly not broken or extremely frustrating, but there is no denying that a majority of players, irrespective of skill level, enjoy a large rate of success with her, to the point that Ahri only has a sub50% winrate against Annie.

The answer isn't in nerfing Ahri's itemisation and/or buffing every other mid laner, but almost certainly in reviewing Ahri's profile of strengths and weaknesses.

Supreme Senpai693 votes

Even so if everyone else is weak that makes Ahri strong lol. Strength is completely relative to other champions, that's literally what balance is.

Ahri is overpowered, there is noway a sane person would think that she's balanced

however there are 2 kind of behaviors that are unacceptable to me: -the first is the one that put every ahri main in the same bag and say "ahri mains downvoting everyone and think she's fine" when i myself AND multiple ahri mains know she isn't fine and suggest a lot of way to fixe her

-the second unacceptable behavior is "ahri is op"----> "but why?" --->"muh win rate, pick rate, ban rate, lcs pick rate bla bla bla". Every single thread doesn't even KNOW what is op about ahri they just quote her stats

so you want a reasonable thread about ahri? start to understand first what is wrong her ability to not lose lane is the problem, and this has happened since riot buffed her Q damage+reduced minion's hp (helping to waveclear)+reduced her Q mana cost+buffed her passive sustain a long time ago+gave her bonus ms on Q

Aww gee, it's almost like adding more mobility to an already mobile champion makes them outrageously strong or something. Who'da thunk it? I guess Riot didn't, and still hasn't.

They never learn from previous mistakes with mobility creep. I mean, they reworked Lucian into being able to get his E down to something like a 2 second cd so he could perma kite people and then thought releasing this Kalista abomination was a good idea.

The argument is that there's "Ahri favouritism". There clearly isn't, or she wouldn't have ever received those nerfs and fallen into obscurity for several months at a time over the course of many years. She comes in and out of the meta like many other champions.

I don't think so. I almost never play ahri, but with the exception of when her W one shot you, ahri has always felt fair. Even when she has a 53% winrate she doesn't feel even half as oppressive as Graves does at 50% or LeeSin at 49%. Every time you die to her, you can easily understand why and what you could have done better. IMO this just shows how good her design is. She needs to have her Q ms removed or reworked, but it's not that big a deal IMO. compared to Shaco Ivern Twitch and Anivia (to a lesser extent) she's not a top priority as far as game health is concerned, and none of those champs are even close to as problematic as itemization right now.

Win rates and play rates meh... I don't really care. ----All I care is about logical things.

  • Is the champion annoying to deal with. ~ Sort of, she is safe and can escape when her abilities are ready. But she still can be killed when played correctly.

  • Is she oppressive? ~ No, Even try to spam her abilities, you'll run dry easy without mana items.

  • Does she completely cheese you early game? (pre-6) ~ No. Unless your a moron that tanks every pokes that been thrown at you and don't recall at low HP. Then every champ is OP to you.

  • Does she delete you? ~ Yes, but there are plenty more champs that can do it better, more efficiently, and earlier.

All she got against her is being a viable pick, and decent at what she does. She's pretty balanced on the regards Riot wants her to be. Nothing wrong with a balanced champion to be good at all elos.

Another thing is that she is a jack of all trades kind of champion. She can do plenty of things, but doesn't really excel at them.

  • Sustain? Nunu , Fiddlesticks , Vladimir, Gangplank can do it better.
  • Burst? Viktor, Annie, Veigar, Lux, Fizz can do it better.
  • Mobility? Nidalee, Talon, Kassadin, Ekko, Fizz can do certain things better than she can.
  • CC? Morgana, Malzahar, Annie, Leblanc Can do things just as well. Only benifit to Ahri is that it got a taunt effect to cause them walk to Ahri. Wouldn't recommend to charm an ulted MasterYi though.
  • True Damage? While she does have high rates on true damage, but that's only on her return effect on her Q - Orb of Deception. Compared to champions that just can do it on command - Chogath, Velkoz. Not to mention Ignite, a common summoner spell for mid laners that contains %TD and GW.

Other than play and win rates, is there a logical reason for nerfs? Anyone can delete someone when fed properly, mid laners are known to burst down squishy carries/supports with ease.

Rákãñ2 votes

I'm only stating how I feel on what important, and I have may to use the wrong terms or what. But that's just how I feel. I don't care about winrates or playrates. I rather champions that are strong that are more oppressive and way to snowbally early game to be nerfed over champions that require bit more skill to play. Which I've stated in my post on the categories I look at.

I have play Vel'koz, and its not hard to deal tons of true damage for sure. Yet you don't really explain how he doesn't when he can just delete people with it pretty quickly. Even trying to kite him can be a pain since he has control over his abilities to turn or split apart to hit you. Including with his CC being more reliant and even allows a Yasuo's ult with his knockup with his E. So he fits in some team comps better than Ahri. I was trying to make things bit more simple in comparison. Yet, you just missed the point I was trying to say.

Though you just calling people moron that just agree or because I stated my view. That kinda show's you're pretty immature in a reasonable discussion. The only time I used it, was due to playing stupid. I call myself and idiot or a moron all the time when I do something stupid. But making those mistakes is a learning curve to get better. Not to go on the boards being tilted and call for nerfs. Personally, If I have a hard to fighting a champion, I play them to see how they work so I can learn their strengths and weakness, so I know how to fight them next time I see them.

darreckpls11 votes

You don't sound like you actually want to have a reasonable discussion. Your post is filled with assumptions, accusations, and doesn't actually bring up any legitimate argument other than her pick and win rate. this is coming from someone who agrees with you that she's too strong atm. This post is just hypocritical in my opinion and doesn't encourage what you say you want (a reasonable discussion).

floppy10008 votes

Not saying this is the case for Ahri, but I'd just like to provide some caution to worrying about a champ health based on its WR.

Suppose Riot makes AD champs ridiculous broken so there's at least 4, often 5 in one game. Suddenly Rammus WR goes up to 60%. Does that mean he's broken?

There are a lot of different things that can get really strong without any adjustments because of the various things that are becoming problems in the game (canary in the coal mine scenario).

arghilost6 votes

problem is she does what is expected of a solo q mid too well. She has mindless fast waveclear with Q and mobility that allows her to get anywhere on the map before the other mid does faster.

So it's almost like she is TF with a stronger laning phase, which is obviously not balanced.

And thats just her being played by the good ones. New/average ahri players get by just sitting mid and waveclearing and doing basic rotations in teamfights because she has the numbers and is easy enough to play to do so.

NineTailedMystic3 votes

TF has better roams, more reliability, and scales faster due to his passive.

Skorch6 votes

Actually most threads i see are people saying this, then everyone is like "yeah fuck ahri" and whenever anyone defends ahri they get a million downvotes and a bunch of people flaming them.

TyrekGoldenspear5 votes

If a champion like Zed had similar numbers, the boards would be going completely apeshit. Just saying.

Well duh, you're comparing apples and oranges. Ahri isn't an assas--oh wait.

Well the boards generally have this hate towards assassins being strong, so mages get the advantage there.

The winrate is quite high I suppose, but take into account the state of the meta and popular picks right now as well. Most of her competition got nerfed recently iirc.

But yeah, she could use a few tweaks.

Emmy Cha0s3 votes

I disagree. As someone who can confidently say hates assassins just as much as anyone, I always felt Ahri was the healthiest assassin in the game. That is, when she used to be one before the rework. She had a distinct reliance on a slow skillshot to receive her damage amp which could be clearly itemized against.

item 3140

Now Ahri lacks any real identity other than as a crutch for low-skilled players to compensate for their own badness. They removed most of the skill from her kit, added a little bit of safety and then removed a lot of damage, range and sustain after because(surprise surprise) her current kit is designed to prevent punishing bronzies for being bronze.

There was a time when people did complain about Zed a lot though. He was such a strong lane bully while also being an asssassin; the pairing was weird and it felt like the player against Zed could only pray to survive the lane and stuff.

Zed also had very few counters, no sense of resource management so he could freely spam harass you in lane and zone you from farm, and kill pressure that was accentuated from the use of his "oops" buttons.

Lucian is sitting at 40% playrate and 53 % wr, priorities?

Jeanne fan club4 votes

She has the most mains out of any champion in the game

She is a generalist, so she does well at every aspect of every other midlaner, meaning that she also does well in every meta.

her playrate spiked because she was picked in the LCS after not being played in the LCS for an entire year, and we all know the FOTM problem that NA has.

She is extremely straight forward, low skill floor but high skill ceiling.

All of her "hardest counters" were nerfed.

These are some of the reasons that I can think of for her high winrate and playrate.

I find it funny though that when she is picked in the LCS, her E is maxed second, leaving her W on 140 damage MAX. Most of the time she is picked she functions as a support most of the game. It seems like every game I see with her in it she is like 0-0-7 or some similar score. I think she is just picked because she is unlikely to die a whole bunch in the early game.

Her Ult ap damage and ratio might be something to look at. Maybe have her Q ms scale off of ability level. Change her passive. from a gameplay perspective it's a really stupid passive for a champion like her in my opinion. Maybe make it so that she only heals when she hits a champion or something. Her W is really really stupid at targeting, might as well make it a skillshot where all 3 flames will converge on where you click. That would probably balance it out too, considering she wouldn't be able to Ult in and W for 30-60% of a squishes hp (because the ability to nuke the a precious squishy adc screams for nerfs). Might even give a reason to max it second as well.

I don't think that nerfing her ult cd will do jack considering its no game changer like Oriana, and all ult cd's are basically around a minute by late game anyway. They are always up for the next teamfight. I don't really think changing damage or mana costs is the solution. Her base ms is pretty low for a midlaner already. Her base armor and her auto attacks aren't the problem. If they change the way her Q and thunderlords work then she won't be able to proc it with charm and Q, and W its one of the worst targeting abilities in the game other than mordes ghosts or daisy so that wouldn't be able to proc it either.

IDK what kind of reasonable discussion you are looking for. I've seen rational arguments for both sides about this. My question to you is what exactly you want to see from this thread? Ahri nerfs most definitely. Of course you are, you wouldn't be making a post unless you had some axe to grind. There, I gave my reasons and my proposed nerfs. Take what you want from what I said. My bet is that everyone will have downvoted this based off of the username and length of the post rather than the points made. That's what happens every other time I try to speak about my main lol.

Otter Fire5 votes

In terms of lore, her passive makes perfect sense. She can steal the life force/essence of anyone she targets. While I haven't seen Ahri played in my games for a while or played Ahri for that matter, I still think the prospect of playing against one would be an interesting game mid lane. From what I see with her kit is that most of her attacks are skill shots or abilities that have an AI targeting to it and her ulti is directional. This would lead me to believe that her damage comes from being able to land her skill shots and combos efficiently, and her ult helps to position her spells to do optimal damage.

Tl;Dr, Passive is heal because of lore, and I'm guessing Ahri's damage comes from being able to land skill shot abilities well and know ing how to position to optimize trades.

What I want is the Charm amp that was wrongfully taken, but if it doesn't come back, as long as the Q speed is gone, fuck it, I'll live.

Personally; I feel that the explicit change to cause Charm to not stop stoppable dashes is the biggest thing that makes this intolerable--

That she now has a standard utility (cast spell to move fast) instead of a unique one (stop dashes before they complete).

The damage amplification on Charm gave her a more assassin-styled pattern; and the changes that were made were made with the mindset of making her less of an assassin (or so the notes claimed).

I feel most like the issue is that Riot didn't 100% decide what they wanted her to do, and thus hedged on it, which makes her function significantly less well (for game health).

If the movespeed is considered necessary for some reason-- if it was, say, a fervor-style effect on Fox-Fire, it'd be significantly less bad (lockon range being not as high as Orb's throw range, it would be less effective for being useful while running away, and thus only give her the speed while in a fight). plus then ranking fox-fire first would suck less

{quoted}

People complain about overloaded kits. Ahri is almost the definition of overloaded. She has so much unnecessary crap on her kit that its sickening.

Sustain, poke, mobility, burst, waveclear, true damage, zone control, pick potential, strong roams, low cooldowns, etc.

-Her sustain is dependent on her spellcasts, so she's using those less effectively as a very minor tradeoff (and it isn't large enough of one) if she's maximizing her healing

-Her poke isn't as high range as others usually labelled as poke champions, though it is very safe; so roughly equally frustrating.

-Her waveclear requires at least two Qs unless she's exceedingly far ahead most of the time; which means it takes her measurable time (though likely, not yet enough time considering her run-in-and-out attached to it).

-True Damage really isn't a point either way if you ask me; it's just damage. She doesn't have any spell that also does Physical Damage nor any enhancement to increase her Physical Damage output; so she can be countered by building HP/MR like every other mage in the game.

-She can't hold a zone at all, actually. She affects the area around her strongly, but she can't incentivize everybody away from that location, instead ambushing and running (e.g. pick potential). To separate the two feels disingenuous.

-Strong roaming... like every other mage with CC in the game; or every other assassin?

Ahri is the generalist people accuse Lee Sin of being.

This, I feel, is slightly inaccurate; but strong nonetheless. She's a particular kind of fighter but has a lot of outs built into her play which I feel is an active problem.

If they change the way her Q and thunderlords work then she won't be able to proc it with charm and Q,

They're not doing this for a large number of reasons, and it is unfortunate that they have decided to treat the mastery this way, but it is what it is.

Ahri's Spell which deals most damage is her W and she doen't have to do anything to hit. AND her ult Damages is also not a skillshot. I've seen alot ahris who dash around and don't hit any skillshot but still kill the enemie cause of w-ult-ignite-ult-ult-aa

I've never seen the full implication of your anecdote happen, but that doesn't mean it doesn't. Usually, when that event occurs (Ahri kills with W-Ult-Ignite), the Ahri is: a) Ahead / targetting a squishy with no Magic Resistance and b) Focusing an already weakened target.

Thus, she does need the damage offered by her skillshots.

Additionally, while her W has the highest possible damage per cast; it also puts her in range of the opponent, it is usually ranked up last (thus actually has less damage).

Ahri's base damages are some of the lowest in the game. Not to mention, her AP scalings on her abilities are also very low.

Ahri has weaknesses and strengths like every other champion.

Ahri was sitting at like a 12-15% PR for a longgg time. It is only up until the recent nerfs of the bigshot Mid laners that she has come up.

But even still. Her win rate was almost always like that. And now her PR is higher, it is still at that point.

Ahri is fairly balanced. She is completely skillshot reliant to get kills.
