The chronology of gaming
Once there was a time, when games were invented, the Atari for instance, where you would play a game up unto a level where you would be unable to beat the game, and even when you did there would be another level, more difficult to beat. I was born just a bit after this evolution. In 1985. Maybe a bit too old for Atari and Comodore, when I was in my teenage years, but born into XT and 386, Nintendo, Sega and Playtation.
Back in the days any game would be sold and played, because the market wasn't flooded and very single game was worth at least something. Game makers probably did it for the game and not so much for the money... Boy have the times changed.
The gaming industry has changed though. Where Blizzard and for instance Westwood were considered die hard programmers and gamers that wanted to tender to their fanbase to deliver something they love.. to multi billion companies that only produce sterile content to milk the cashcows they have produced. WW sold out for 10 Billion to EA and we all know what kind of company that is. Meanwhile Activision/Blizzard has become a cashcow ever since World of Warcraft or maybe a bit later.
My point is. Google said: Don't be evil Blizzard was all for games for die hard fans and all about community Westwoord was the biggest player in the RTS franchise Yet all these companies somehow gave up their souls for profit.
The funny thing is, if you want profit and have balls, look beyond the cashcow. For decades hollywood movies have been about happy endings and predicatble plots, but what's the one show that's been winning the charts? Game Of Thrones. Why? It's simple. F*ck the cow, Here's the bull. Create something unexpected and it will flourish.
And this is where League is droppijng the ball. Getting to the final point I am trying to make. League is folliwing in the footpring of every predictable gaming company in the world right now. Let me tell you this Riot. If you want to survive for more than 5 more years, you will have to stop thinking linear, and start pissing off the so called average gamer. A simple f*cking example. Fortnite, the dumbest yet most succesfull game in the world right now. Why? Simple. Everyone is thrown into a game with 100 random people, no rank, no class no whatever, just that. Making it so much harder for lower skilled players to win a game, but yet seemingly making it so much more enticing to try...
Grow some balls Riot. This is a multi billion dollar idea, do with it what you want.
