Better Nerf More Items, Right?

Note: Thornmail Every Item was another major outlier in terms of power effectiveness - but - it is only strong **stronger ** in the presence of high health pools other items. Because Thornmail every Item is such an effective standalone Armor item and additional Armor items doesn't really make Thornmail other items much stronger - Thornmail Every Item is strongest when you can stack Health other items (as is the case for most pure resistance items.)

While this case will always be naturally powerful - putting a hook onto Thornmail Every Item such that purchasing additional Armor items unlocks a different sort of power as well as having some more soft synergies with other champions (Leona, Rammus, etc. Every Champion)

Rito and logic just don't mix. Every item is best stacked together than standalone. Even currently, item 3075 combined with a item 3143 or item 3110 is better than by itself.

item 3072 is better stacked with item 3035 than by itself.

Stacking any item with HP is good because HP is a universally useful stat.

If you want to talk about armor items, specifically. Let's look at actual champions who tend to build armor items. Go to any site where there are statistics on champion item builds and look at the strongest/most popular build. Alternatively: watch any League of Legends game ever.

  • Supports? item 3110 tend to be the popular "standalone" item of choice for most support champions. Why is that?
  • Bruisers and Fighters? item 3143 seems to be the armor item of choice if they get ANY armor item. If they ever do build item 3075 it's usually as late game 5th or 6th item purchase. Some mana-hungry or CDR-reliant bruisers like Irelia Hecarim Fizz might even go item 3110 first instead of item 3143 as their first major armor item purchase. Why do you think that is?
  • Mages? item 3157 is the most popular armor item for mages and once in a while you might see a item 3026. Does that make these items oppressive and "too strong standalone"?
  • Assassins? They don't tend to build armor, but when they do, it's usually in only ONE of their item slots (two tops). Which of the following armor items is an assassin MOST LIKELY to build as a "standalone" armor item? item 3143 item 3068 item 3075 item 3026 item 3047 . I'll give you a hint: it's not item 3075 .
  • ADCs? You seldom see them build armor, but when they do it's typically in their 5th or 6th item slot and is their only defensive item. Which of the following armor items are you most likely to see on an ADC? item 3143 item 3026 item 3075 Hint: it's not item 3075
  • Tanks? Any tank that is mana-hungry or CDR-reliant will get item 3110 first. Do they eventually get item 3075 ? Yes. But no tank purchases item 3075 early or by itself and thinks "welp I guess I've got all the armor I need against a 39% armor pen 750-damage crit ADC time to only buy non-armor items now." No competent or intelligent person ever thinks or says this because it's simply idiotic.
  • What about tanks who don't use mana or don't really need that much CDR? Examples: DrMundo Gnar Shen Zac . Which of the following 4 armor items are you MOST LIKELY to see on them, if they have ANY armor items? item 3143 item 3068 item 3075 item 3047 . I'll give you a hint: it's not item 3075

So where the fuck does this notion that item 3075 is a "major outlier item" because it's an effective "standalone" armor item come from? Just based on math, popular/strong builds, and raw stats, it's much easier to make the case that item 3110 , item 3026, item 3068 , item 3157 , item 3143, or even item 3047 are better "standalone" armor items than item 3075 . I would actually rank item 3075 as precisely the WORST standalone armor item (except for maybe item 3025 because it's a shitty item by design).

I personally think that item 3143 is the best "standalone" armor item because 70 armor + 500 HP gives more physical damage (but also true damage and magic damage) survivability than ANY other armor items. There's a reason why so many different roles build it.

So pls, Rito: don't fucking insult our intelligence by trying to justify the item 3075 NERFS (yes, they are general across-the-board nerfs) by arguing that it's too effective as a "standalone armor item." That is utterly false. There isn't a single data point or math calculation you can make to back that up. The reason you are nerfing item 3075 is because it's almost time for Worlds and you don't want those "boring wet-noodle fights" to put everyone to sleep. You want to nerf tanks back into non-viability so your flashy #LC$BIGPLAY$ champions dominate ONCE AGAIN like you ALWAYS DO. Is it any coincidence that LeeSin and Lucian are receiving buffs in the SAME FUCKING PATCH?

Just admit what you're doing. Don't pretend like it's overall for the best health of the game. You have clear champion and playstyle favoritism and this has resonated since the existence of this game. The 5.16 armor item nerfs are completly uncalled for and will singlehandedly undo ALL progress made this entire season in bringing tanks back to relevance again.

**TL;DR: Rito is COMPLETELY full of shit and fucking liars. **

No Rioter will ever read this post despite being in their own official boards under "Gameplay & Balance"

How is it that an item like item 3075 who hasn't seen a stats change/balance since 2010 and 2009 suddenly (in 2015) become a problematic or oppressive item?
