How To Make Any Champion Broken (Rito Game Balance New Employee Training)

  1. Nerf items that could potentially defend against that champion (item 3075 item 3110 item 3143)
  2. Introduce new items and buff existing items specifically for making champion stronger (item 3053 item 3748 item 3071 item 3742 )
  3. Add a bunch of true damage / defense-ignoring abilities to the champions' kit (Gangplank Darius Fiora Garen) because ccounterplay is no fun.
  4. Jack up all of champion's base stats so their playstyle literally becomes "ball-of-stats" that can do well no matter how much gold they have (Darius Mordekaiser Garen)
  5. Don't play test the champion at all and accept no feedback from anyone who tries.
  6. Wonder why champion sits at 55-60% (or higher) win rate.
  7. Scratch your head as to why champion is perma pick/banned including at major international tournaments.
  8. Wait 5 patches (minimum) before fixing champion and repeating steps 1-8 on a new champion (the one with the new skin coming out).

I wouldn't include Mordekaiser in step 4. His base stats are actually really really bad.

I think that he means that thanks to his W, Mordekaisr can outlevel enemies, and that's the only way he can have advantage over them.

That said, Mordekaiser has the best base attack damage in the game.

TTUPhoenix2 votes

Yeah, but that's his only good stat. He has the worst base health regen in the game, and one of the lowest base hitpoints and armor as well. I don't know about his AS, but it's not good.

So bad Mordekaiser needs a babysitter to win. People say Mordes OP. But conviently forget solo lane mordes 3rd worst in game winrate

I play Morde exclusively in the solo lane. Never forget.

I will never forget. I quit league over Mordes Mishandled Rework. Still ghosting the Forums for change

End result is a victory or defeat how you get there is different. Marksmen carry from their own skill plus the support of the team

Morde is gimped solo and requires his team to do anything. I'd much rather have independent Morde back

His AD growth is massive, he has the highest AD at level 18 at a whopping 146. Also his W passive gives him free stats because of his level advantage.

2nd lowest Atk speed. And scales poorly 2nd lowest Base health @18 And regens very poorly

Lowest MS in the game.

Highest AD. On A hybrid champ. Whoopdy fukin Do

Also the xp passive is getting nerfed 5.20 so where exactly is your argument.

Solo Morde is Crap. Duo Morde is Oppressive crap.

All I want to play is a solo Morde who can actually use his full kit by himself. Is it so hard to get 100% of a champion to play with.

Hay5eed4 votes

Yeah well Lucian in a solo lane is bad too, so is every other ADC but that doesn't stop Vayne from being OP

And Graves STILL can't have his fucking cigar.

Eedat5 votes

One of the highest base AD and tied with Darius for #1 AD per level with his Q doing a total of 390% AD as magic damage. Riiiiggggghhhttt

TTUPhoenix3 votes

Except for the fact that he's slower than Darius (325 compared to 340) and all of his other stats (except for MR [both have 32.1 at lvl 1) and melee range (200 to Darius' 175) are worse. He also lacks the pull and double slow that Darius has, making it much harder for him to stick to a target to actually use that base AD.

Also, that 390% AD scaling? That requires a level 5 Q. Both the multiplier and the AD scaling are dependent on level, meaning that he won't have that kind of scaling until level 9 at the earliest. And no, you don't always max Q first on Morde.

Eedat2 votes

Except for the fact that Morde gets to build ADC while dishing out massive AP nukes from his Q that scale off his AD making it impossible to counter build him efficiently. Add this to the fact that Darius doesnt get a giant f$%king dragon to fight for him. Add this to the fact that Morde can play with a support while still getting solo lane XP

TTUPhoenix8 votes

Counter building Morde is not difficult at all.

  1. Build MR.
  2. Done.

The fact is that Morde most likely isn't going to build straight AD - doing so makes him fall off hard after level 9 or so, since only Q and E scale off of AD, he's not good as an autoattacker, and his ult (in other words, the thing that he depends on in teamfights) will do very little damage. In addition, both Trinity Force (which is hybrid) and Rylai's (which is absolutely core on new Morde) don't give much or any AD, and Morde also needs to build tank items to prevent himself from getting blown up. Even with AD scalings, Morde's primarily going to do magic damage, so building MR (I recommend Hexdrinker or Spirit Visage over Banshee's - it's too easy for Morde to pop the bubble with E) significantly reduces his damage.

People also seem to really overestimate the dragon's strength. It's strong in the early game, yes, but that's also when Morde gets it for the least amount of time. The dragon does deal a lot of damage (it's damage is based off %max hp) but it's AI is incredibly bad, and it's very easy to lose control of it. It also goes down quite quickly to any degree of focus. If Morde can get his team to group as 5, it's very powerful, but otherwise, it's only moderately powerful.

The W passive is absolutely a problem, but that's a larger issue than Morde's base stats, and one that Morde mains generally want to see nerfed or outright gone.

Whew! Good thing his Q and E don't scale off both AD and AP.

Oh crap they do...

TTUPhoenix8 votes

But both deal magic damage, so MR will significantly reduce their damage. Just because it scales off of AD doesn't mean it deals hybrid damage. That's why AD Morde falls off after 9 - once his Q is maxed, his damage output is about as good as it is going to get. Yes, E scales off of AD, but its damage was significantly reduced, and it doesn't have the impact it used to have. Again, Morde isn't going to be doing a ton of autoattacking - most of his damage comes from his abilities, and he doesn't build a ton of attack speed to use those autos. Morde, for instance, will never build PD/Shiv.

RisenDarkKnight5 votes

Yeah even with an ad build, morde still does about 70% magic damage. So MR is still very effective and he has no true damge at least.

RisenDarkKnight2 votes

He has the highest base ad in the game though.

{quoted} 5. Don't play test the champion at all and accept no feedback from anyone who tries.

I seem to recall Garen getting tweaked a lot based on feedback when he was on the PBE, and to a lesser extent Skarner and Darius. I wonder how many people even remember that Skarner was among the big, bad juggernauts for like one patch before his nerf and return to obscurity.

Really, Morde is the only one for whom player feedback seems to have done nothing.

Jakra8 votes

I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but the juggernaut patch should never of come out in my opinion.

SociopathFriend8 votes

I like how people conveniently paint Riot as "never accepting feedback" when a generous amount of the feedback isn't helpful.

Remember Skarner? Yeah, PBE said he was fine- how did that turn out?

Remember how there are still people screaming Blitz, Shaco, and Yi are OP?

Yeah, wonder why Riot takes everything the fanbase says with a lot of salt, if Riot listened to everything they heard most of the champions would've been nerfed into the ground long ago.

Onegarion4 votes

Its almost like people don't really know whats going on. When the Garen changes were "finalized" I remember tons of threads about how he was going to be trash and a ton weaker. While he wasn't the strongest juggernaut he definitely was stronger than before. So any theoretical feedback people give I take with a grain of salt because people clearly don't understand changes in champs and items. Even minor changes people don't seem to understand.

I'd hate to be Riot and have a complete pool of feedback like this with a few people throwing out helpful feedback and thinking its bad.

Slamurai Jack14 votes

Rework Fiora was garbage when she first came out and had to be hotfix buffed. Rework Darius was garbage on release and also got hotfix buffs. Rework Garen was garbage for most of the time on the PBE until they took the self-slow off his spin. Skarner was considered weak according to PBE tester feedback and hit live servers with a 65% win rate. GP was considered pretty meh when he was first reworked and it took several patches for people to realize his potential. Mordekaiser was considered a joke pick after his rework and saw almost no play for the first 2-3 patches after the rework. Stop pretending all of these champions came out super OP; because they didn't. Your memory is as bad as the people who say Yasuo, the guy who got nerfed 6 times in 2014, is immune to nerfs.

Yeah

But now Garen is doing 74% of my health as True Damage in a single fight if I'm the villain. That's 74% of the damage that was done to me that I couldn't block in any way except having more health.

Never mind that Titanic is still a horrible item that you only buy when you're winning anyway. Or that Cleaver was introduced 5 patches before that.

Add a bunch of true damage / defense-ignoring abilities to the champions' kit (Gangplank Darius Fiora Garen) because counterplay is no fun.

Because playing around a champion's abilities is too much for your juvenile player base. You should be able to facetank anything those champions throw at you. Garen isn't played in competitive, almost like pros know how to kite him or something. Somehow the armor items mentioned in 1 would've helped against all that true damage and armor pen? Sweet logic.

Don't play test the champion at all and accept no feedback from anyone who tries.

Small sample sizes are a powerful thing. Either way, it's not like the passive aggressive "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG BECAUSE BASE STATS" that most of the community offers is in any way useful.

Scratch your head as to why champion is perma pick/banned including at major international tournaments.

Anyone before juggernauts were introduced: GP, Darius, Fiora and Morde are gonna be pick/ban at Worlds. Anyone who knows anything: Lolwut? A1: No really, Critplank gets waveclear and can flex into mid/top while Morde is an OP APC in the bot lane. And Fiora and Darius can reach mid game without getting camped to hell and back. A2: Riiiiiight, enjoy elo hell, scrub. You (now): Rito really shoulda predicted that.

Wait 5 patches (minimum) before fixing champion and repeating steps 1-8 on a new champion (the one with the new skin coming out).

So all those ... what do you call them again? Oh yeah, NERFS to each and every juggernaut (every patch so far) were flukes then.

Yeah I gotta disagree with this. Its very good on specific champions, but that doesn't make it a bad item per say.

TurquoiseYoshi5 votes

To be fair, Morde and Darius had no recent skins, Garen and GP last had one at the Bilgewater event (both are shitty anyway, and one was free), and Fiora actually had one recently.

You also forgot making a kit OP, making all base things meh-level, and then buffing after the champion is doing badly after a week or two.

Wimbledofy2 votes

that garen skin is amazing though. It's smoker from one piece. How could a skin like that be bad?

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

Objectively, it has basically no reason to buy it other than that it looks different on the loading screen, and very, very slightly different on the Rift. It has no special particles or spell effects or taunts or recalls (I think).

which is no different from rugged garen but i see that one all the time.

you are very wrong in many points;

darius E passive 5-25% is self armor pen ,only he benefits from it ,its no a shred as you said ,shred is black cleaver ,wukong Q or jarvan Q ,who reduces armor for all team and even for allied minions/turrets etc

garen lost alot with this rework for a better mid late, why ? 84 health from 96 per level ,every level lose 12 health , Q silence 1.5 from 2.5 max and its speed and duration also reduces ,also his w no longer gives tenacity ,which used to be an awesome thing when having no mercs

his ult is only doing truedamage on villain and its implying missing health not % max health

the most broken user would be fiora and especially the devil itself ,vayne you tell me how balanced is when it does 60 + 8% of target max health ,can be reset with Q and procced by condemn last game i had 330 armor ,she dealt 340 basic attack but 900 true damage ,tank melter and not only

see what i mean?

vayne has no cd on target and when attacks with 2/ sec is beyond broken ,every third attack explodes with true damage like atomic bomb ,its like 25% hp gone with white dmg

true thing is i dislike too ,true damage dealers like fiora /irelia and vayne

Notice how every one of those champions except Garen also have some form of self healing.

Come on. Don't pretend Riot Repertoir didn't listed to feedback. Garen and Skarner were going to be much weaker that the versions that came to "live", but he buffed them on playerbase opinions. Darius I think was on the weak side on release, until the next patch.

Now, for Mordekaiser's rework, the statement is 100% true, though playerbase opinion was divided: Some thought he'd be pushed out of the lane quite easily, while others through the Q damage was obsene. In both cases, though, agreement was that changes would kill solo lane Morde.
