pls stop. ive seen actual games being thrown over some ryze trying to pull a big play and ult into the enemy backline, just for the enemy team timing their cc and aoe abilities for the teleport and completely obilterating the group on arrival. it almost never works.

even for the champions you mentioned, people can just walk away from the area and then turn on the enemy team with their own aoe. all it takes to lose a game is something as simple as a viktor to drop a w + ult into the circle and walk away.

ryze ult is a roaming tool, not an engage tool.

I agree with your general assessment, TF Ult and Ryze Ult yologages are wholesale bad ideas. To be fair though, this tactic can be done smartly-but with voice coms, and only as a "free tp the immobile full-tank into the back line, while the team sivir ults/shurellias in from the front". Aka, not solo queue. Ryze himself doesn't need to go in the warp, he can only warp the tank if he wants. Hell, nobody can warp and it can just bait said viktor w and shepherd the enemy team into position for a different engage. High tier teams can really utilize some sick plays, but just like the difference between Tahm ult in coordinated teams and Tahm Ult in Soloqueue, there's a difference in use possibilities, and y'all really need to be on the same page to try any wacky Ryze Engage Shenanigans.

So true. I tried baiting the enemy team towards a bad position, but my team's Jinx thought it was an engage and stepped inside... alone. Ryze ult in solo queue is a death trap.

wait.. why fiddle ? fiddle's ult always works best when he's not seen, and using it during a ryze ult can ultimatly lead to it missing some of the damage if they choose to spread out after noticing the ult come in or worse are prepared for it. No thank you, i'll walk around with a scanner or ~~pink~~ w/e that new pink ward is called now and ult from the fog of war. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Thats because you are doing it wrong. Dont stand in a tight circle in his ult, spread out in it. Dont teleport right onto the enemy, come running out of a bush. Heres what you do. Put Kled on the team. Waver around their forest on one side so they all see you there, ward it up. as they start to come in after you, Ryze teleports the team to another edge of teh forest where they dont see you, then kled does his speed ult and you plow into them from a surprise attack.

OR. Ryze teleports a group of 5 right infront of a pushed turret while you see 2-3 enemies in the opposite lanes and you just smash into it.

OR, you just win a good teamfight and ryze takes you all to the dragon/baron for easy quick getting.

USE IT RIGHT AND YOU WIN.

there is no way to do it right, due to how telegraphed the ability is. even if you spread out around the area, youre going to get wrecked by incoming damage the moment you arrive.

you use the ult to jump from one end of the map to anther, and get your team into a position from which you can engage on. do not attempt to use the ult itself as an engage unless youre suicidal.

you just made my point. you dont use the ult as an engage, but as a tool to get into position for an engage or to roam.

I'm pretty sure OP means don't use it to teleport in the middle of the enemy team to start a fight, unless nobody goes in and its just to bait out enemy ults (watching Kennen Leona MissFortune and Nunu waste their ults before Kled ults in was one of the funniest things Iv'e ever seen.

it works if only the tank uses it to teleport. That way, enemy team actually ends up wasting all the AoE abilities on tanks instead of carries.

of course, this does not work in solo queue

It works if you have the right champs. Once I faced a Lee-Darius-Ryze when I was varus. All 3 were fed, and every time ryze ulted right under me. Not a fun game at all.

Critmaster Garen, I have to disagree with this post. Ryze ults are excellent for delivering the fighters and certain tanks to the enemies backline. I think someone with your name would understand that as a juggernaut, you have a hard time actually getting to their squishies.

Ryze ult is particularly powerful with a coordinated team. I play solo queue, and at first, after the VGU I was put off by the ultimate, since I was used to solo carrying. But after a while, I learned to COMMUNICATE with my team in the pre-game lobby. Sometimes, my team mates even draft picks around Ryze, such as Amumu/Kennen. I really appreciate a team who talks.

Most likely, the Ryze's you see aren't that good, and they try to get 5 man ult into their team. Which is a fucking terrible idea, unless you all have a taric ultimate. Usually, for engages, it's 2-man or 3-man into the portal, while the other 2/3 people follow up by walking from behind.

When people read this post, they will probably be more reluctant to follow in. Please, consider it if the Ryze is experienced. If the Ryze goes in by himself, not only will he have wasted an ultimate, now you would be down a member, and may lose the objective.

I can't speak for what Ryze's you have been matched up with, but a good portal can decide a game.

I quite enjoy ryze and pulled of some nice ults in my last game either to cut off some loose enemy or get me and twitch into the backline to wreck hell. Don't know the bots OP is playing with but i had no problems so far.

this would be true if the enemy team wouldnt get a hugeass warning that youre dropping into their backline.

the enemy team now has 2 options.

a) either walk away from the aoe during the channel, and drop cc on the arrivals b) time their own engage according to the tp into the squishies youre leaving behind and just rolling over them

I just use Ryze ults to escape. Ult+Zhonya = free escape. No way that's gonna work in solo queue, everyone is too uncoordinated.

I'd also like to add a small PSA, as a Ryze enthusiast, conversely speaking to persons playing with a Ryze (that is not trying to get them killed) on their team: WHEN YOUR RYZE ULTS, THEN BACK PINGS YOU AWAY FROM IT, HIS INTENTION IS TO FOOL THE ENEMY INTO THINKING SOMEONE IS COMING, SO AS AFFECT THERE POSITIONING AND OR BRIEFLY CAPTURE THEIR ATTENTION FROM SOMETHING MORE IMPORTANT TO THEM

Also, for those who aren't aware, you can press recall so that the ult doesn't target you, in the case that you are unable to get out of it's area through other means.

Hope this was somewhat helpful, and my heart goes out to all the people with suicidal Ryze s on their team.

I've always thought this ability was a little too obvious. It only works when people aren't paying attention or your tanks go in ahead of you. I find it funny people are replying 'but it works if the other team are not paying attention at all!' then downvoting you LOL. There are inherent problems with his ult, mainly being that it's too obvious + the delay makes it extremely easy to avoid completely. I think for the delay+telegraphing there should be a shorter delay or longer distance to make up for it, because as it is now almost everyone can see it coming. Even sending in your tanks through his ult first won't work that well if they are paying attention they can just stun or slow the tank and back off since they're given so much time to react to his ult.

i think the one at 35 seconds is the best example. this was as organized as a "ryze ult engage" can get, with the fiddle already channeling his ult to trigger right the moment they arrived.

and it still entirely backfired because they were all clustered up in one spot and the enemy team just counterengaged.

this is why this shit doesnt even work with nunu or galio. the enemy just walks away from the big circle that appears on the ground and you blow your ult into nothing, while putting your team into the worst position possible.
